Also the keypad immobiliser usually has either red or green lights depending on status, now it has both illuminated. I changed the fuel pump relay for a different one, said to be tested and fully working but it does the same. The battery is fully charged if that makes any difference.

Has anyone got any ideas ?

Zx 1.4 Cooling Fan Not Working /not The Switch

Hi all just joined zx overheating fan Will not cut in. This car has never missed a beat but yesterday developed a very strange fault. The car always starts first time and runs as sweet as a nut. But since yesterday, once warm stops randomly, with no warning, no splutter just as if the key has been turned to the stop position. No warning lights illuminate, it just stops. When trying to restart it restarts, runs for approx 1 second and then stops again. It will do this for 2 - 10 times and then maybe run for 15 - 30 seconds and then stop again and repeat the start / stop process again. I have changed the fuel filter, replaced all the leak off pipes on the injectors as a pre caution. The immobiliser has been disconnected for years as it drove me round the bend entering a code every time to start the car! If you leav.e the car to go cold it will run perfectly until it gets up to temp and then keeps stopping. It never seems to cut out when you accelerate hard but as soon as you lift off the throttle it will die. Has anyone experienced this before or have any ideas what may be causing the problem??? I'm thinking it may be the solenoid on the fuel pump but am open to suggestions.

Many thanks. :-/

Car Brake Failure

I have been faithfuly getting help from the web and a Haynes manual, but have recently come acropper! I have had very spongy brakes on the old ZX with a juddering motion comming form the front nearside, which after some reading leads me to believe that this caliper is sticking and causing the brake fluid to travel back up the pipe, hence the juddering? Does this sound like a reasonalbe diagnosis? Any way I tried to initially bleed the brakeds to get rid of some of this spongy brake pedal and you've guessed it, even after soaking the nipples with WD, I have managed to snap both of them off!

So I have decided to replace both the font calipers in the hope that I will be able to eradicate this judder and firm up the brakes on this great car! But alas I cannot find a 'how to guide' anywhere, not in the Haynes manual (which seems to refer only to Girling brakes) or via a site on the web!

Also I am wondering weather I need to renew any other parts aside from the callipers. I have already renewed the front discs (non vented type) and the all of the shoes/pads both front and back when I got the car on to the road!

All help would be greatly appreciated! And many thanks in advance! There is a wealth of valves new and second hand but the correct one for my car seems to be quite rare. I can only find one on Ebay for £75.00, while most of the other valves are around £30 new. I dont really want to spend that much on a part, because it's over half the value of the car. The valve fitted to my ZX is a Magneti Marelli M3616 B16/00 and I think the injection is Siemens VDO. As the description says its a 1996 1.4 petrol ZX with 90k miles. I bought it about 2 months ago from a guy who had only done 8k miles on it since 2003.

Since i've had the car it has sounded great when ticking over and been a nice responcive drive. however from the start it would occasinally over rev while idleing. It would go from normal reving up to '20' on the rev counter. It does this repetitivly and shounds like i'm tapping my foot on the gas pedal but i'm not. Its always done it when the car is stationary and usually when its in gear but with the clutch down aulthough it does do it in neutral to. I has now recently started suddenly drastically dropping in revs to the point where the dash lights flick on as though it was about to stall but then last second it brings it back to more normal revs.

Its also now become an unreliable starter. It starts first time every time in the mornings. however with a new job i have recently gotten i come home in my 3 hour break. This means the car runs for 20-30 mins, then is left for 2 hours before i try to start it again. It is at this time when its often not starting. It is like the engine is flooded, but having been left for 2 hours with no running it shouldnt be flooded.

If anyone has any idea i'm going to be having a more car savvy person have a go at doing the basic things (spark plugs ect) on friday. and we can also have a go at anything that anyone might suggest.

Any help greatly appreciated. :)

Zx Volcane Rear Suspension

I have a 1994 zx volcane TD and ive noticed my offside rear tyre is hitting the inside of the bodywork (when it goes over bumps etc), though there is no noise from the N/S wheel.

ive done a rough measure:

distance from the outer wheel arch to the tyre:

Offiside Rear: about 40mm

Nearside Rear: about 34 mm

so the offside wheel is leaning in more.

any suggestions to what the problem might be?

Clutch Zx 1.9td

The clutch on my ZX is gone. The cable had broken and after installing a new one I found that the clutch didn't work and makes a horrible grating noise when I press the pedal, accompanied by smoke coming out of the bellhousing.

Been trying to dismantle the clutch, taken off the front suspension on the gearbox side, driveshaft out, all wires and tubes out of the way etc.

On trying to take the bellhousing off I find it will only move about 20mm, then it won't go further. My suspicion is that the thrust bearing is somehow mangled into the pressure plate, when I move the clutch lever the whole bellhousing moves back onto the engine. If I try to pull the clutchlever further forward there is a springy resistance, an indication that it's attached to the pressureplate. I've been told by a friend who has a garage that the thrustbearing should just come out with the bellhousing but I can't get it to move.

Should I take the gearbox off, will that allow me access to the trouble area?

Or just force the bellhousing off, regardless of what it may do to the clutch, which is gone anyway. My worry here is that I might damage the lever mechanism or something else.

Also, my local parts supplier told me the ZX has a 'pullclutch'. I don't know what this means, mine looks like the normal push setup although there is an unused cable bracket on the forward side of the lever.

Anyone have experience with this type of problem? I'd sure appreciate some advice as I'd like to get the car back on the road asap.

Misleading Fuel Gauge On My Zx Diesel!

Hi my fuel gauge is very difficult to work out.
