I've bought a Saxo East Coast 1.0 - bit of a dog at the moment

My concern is that the technical data suggust that the car should have 14" wheels, but it has 15" alloys with 195/45/R15 tyres - nothing is rubbing,but without PAS you definately need muscles to park it.

As it has 15" wheels would that affect the speedo/mileage reading?

I would appreciate any advice, I may consider returning to 14" steel wheels

Is this car Mark 1,2 or 3 ?

Is it possible to fit a 1.1 engine as a straight swop for a 1.0 engine without changing gearbox etc.?

My daughters 1.0 engine has just died and i have the chance to a buy a low milage 1.1 and if its a relatively easy job i'd do it.

If not what are problems involved and how do I find out how to do it?

These are problems that I've had and worked out how to fix ...

1 Analogue instrument reset - if all analogue instruments (speedo, tach, fuel gauge)

"lock" in position they can be reset as follows:

Find the radio code which will be needed later (!)

Switch off radio and other sundries.

Ignition on but engine not started, disconnect battery.

Switch Ignition Off, reconnect battery. Everything should now work OK.

Reset radio - press radio "on", at code prompt enter code xxxx, wait, radio will come on.

2) To reset maintenance to "0":

Use the button located bottom left of the instrument binnacle.

Switch off ignition.

Press and hold down this button, switch on ignition.

Hold down the button until =0 is reached then release the

button. Note - it counts down the thousands and =0 is one

further than 0. Switch off ignition.

3) If the engine overheats the red temperature light will stay on but

there is no ECU (engine) light on. Whenever the engine is

running the cooling fan will run, it stays on for about 5 minutes.

Even if the ignition is switched on and off, without engine

start, this sequence is run. This cannot be reset by a

sequence of buttons but needs an OBD-II reset. Once the fault is cleared

everything will work OK.

The system works as follows: Sensor is NTC (negative temperature coefficient)

thermistor on thermostat housing, approx values of 20 deg C = 2500 ohm,

60 deg C = 500 ohm, 100 deg C = 180 ohm.

If sensor is disconnected the ECU will assume that it's faulty,

apparently all manufacturers design this way. The ECU drives

the fan through a relay so if the fan stays on it may be a

stuck relay.

Hope this is helpful. Mine is the saxo with a single cooling fan.

with help from the Citroen owners club (a guy called saxodaddy deserves a mention), I was able to fit the electrics to my Saxo, quite easily (having bought extra cable and scotchlocks from motorworld.

That done and after a little research, it seems that an audible or visible(?) indicator must be fitted to your vehicle, so you know that you trailer lights (Indicators)are working…

It is a small blk box (2" x 1 3/4") with 5 wires coming from a circuit board..

the centre wire (white) is the earth wire

to the left of this is a green wire and to the left of that a grey wire (sorry aint figured out how to insert diagrams in this forum...)

to the right of the central white wire

there's a yellow wire

and to the right of that an orange wire....

the yellow and green wires i believe connect to the yellow and green wires on the towbar electric loom.....but

Can someone please supply the solution to the mystery of where the grey and orange wires fit?

have tried lookin on internet but.... companies just wanna sell you another sensor..

would be grateful for any help

this resulted in her having to lock the doors from the inside (by popping down the nib and shutting the door) when leaving the car and using the boot (by leaning in and pulling up the locks) to get back in again.

she took it to her local garage and when she went to pick it up they'd only fitted one lock (they said the other was fine) and gave her two spare keys.

....problem is that she has to use a seperate key to get into the car from the one to start it!

(in fact now neither locks work again)

she's looking to sell it soon and i was hoping someone could point me in the direction of a guide to fitting new locks on it...would it be in haynes?

i was told by someone to get a lock set (ignition barrel,door/boot locks/and petrol cap) from ebay or somewhere and fit it myself ..can get all the tools and that and im quite handy...just wouldn't mind some sort of guidlines for reference.

any help and advice would be mucho appreciated.

ps not central locking...older style

After standing a few hours in the rain a few drops of water run down inside the car alongside the passenger glovebox close to the door frame. Is it easy to find the drain pipe to allow water to escape from the sunroof channel? Some part of it must be blocked.
