The missus <em>may</em> need to drive the van so I got quotes with her added too. When I did add her to the quote, I found that with most insurance companies, the price went down by over 10%. Sorry they say most companies will not apply your 45 years NCD if you have not held insurance in your name for more than 2 years, even though I am the main driver named on SWMBO insurance. They will let me insure a C3 Picasso 1.6 for Â£300 and that's with a 40% discount as NEW customer.</p><p> </p><p>So I dig through my computer files and find my old Swiftsure policy and drop them an email. Now remember I was a customer with them for the last 3 years before I sold my car and cancelled the policy, I have no driving convictions or otherwise in the period since and I am a named main driver. Their reply Sorry but you have to had insurance again within 2 years, go on our site and reuest a quote. Even if you let cover lapse during holidays or hospital stays you'll be breaking the law. </p><p> </p><p>There's a Â£100 fine followed by clamping, seizure or it being DESTROYED, though warning letters come first.</p><p> </p><p>Avoid it with a Sorn. But in saying that i did hear an insurance guy on the radio say that having just 3 points on your license would not normally affect your premium. I pay monthly so this would amount to Â£182 a month. Now I love the Picasso so want to keep it and stay as the owner and main driver. I lost my 1yr no-claims bonus when I had my claim on the silver picasso put in.</p><p> </p><p>I have looked on gocomapre, comparethemarket, confused.com etc.... and their best prices are in excess of Â£2400 <span>http://www.citroenpicasso.org.uk/picasso/public/style_emoticons/default/blink.gif</span> I have been with Zurich every since I was learning and would like to stay with them but does anyone know of anyway I can get this premium lowered.. or what I can say on the phone to a Zurich rep to try and lower it!</p><p> </p><p>This is based on an average mileage of 10,000, vol. excess of Â£300, fully comprehensive. I managed to get a lower premium with admiral I think it was by putting a Vol. Excess of Â£1000!! At the moment the police can only fine a motorist or seize vehicles without insurance which are being driven on public roads. New rules expected in April will make it an offence to be the keeper of a vehicle that is not insured unless it has a SORN even though it is OFF the road </p><p> </p><p>So be warned friends they are out to get you. I was told it would go down the next year,  despite no claims, it never did!</p><p> </p><p> I was told it would go down when I was 21, despite again never having a claim, it never did.</p><p> </p><p> I looked forward to it going down when I reached the ripe old age of 25, no claims or endorsements, but the premium carried on rising!</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> A spell as a motor trader with "Traders policies", no claims or accidents, came out of the trade, reverted to private policy and was"mildly surprised" to find out that the NCB from trade policy was not eligble to be carried on to a private policy!  Premium went up.</p><p> </p><p> Daughter now 17, premium went up.</p><p> </p><p> 2 years later, son 17, you guessed it!</p><p> </p><p> Last few years just wife and self on policy, still went up [inflation, companies contributing to uninsured drivers scheme,] every time we asked, different reasons!</p><p> </p><p> Now 52; looking for renewal yesterday; "confused.com"  produced fantastic quote, over £100 cheaper than renewing with present company [ Marks&amp;sparks]. The non-franchised dealer offers a three months parts and labour guarantee. A chap a work suggested this company <a href="http://www.ecarinsurance.com" rel="external nofollow">www.ecarinsurance.com </a> Best quote before trying these people was £285, went to the website and entered all details, result was amazing £160 for the year INCLUDING Breakdown assistance/recovery homestart and legal cover! If u have 4years NCD already then this is covered for life, also you can have up to 4 cars in one family insured on the same policy.
