al-n-ing Posted June 14, 2006 Posted June 14, 2006 Ok, no one here? Lets start the ball rolling; a few years ago there was an almighty up-roar from Muslims in this country, because there was a new law.....YOU MUST WEAR CRASH HELMETS WHEN RIDING A MOTORCYCLE.Now Muslims; or rather male Muslims have to wear a tuban, so they kicked up a stink by riding around without hemets. To the best of knowledge, we saw hundreds of them on TV, & the law was made to allow them to wear there turbans. 1st question; When did you last see a Muslim riding a motorbike? Now we have laws which say youths cannot wear 'hoodies' in towns (ok I'm not sure if its LAW but police will arrest anyone who is in town & wearing one to cover there face) , but no mention of female Muslims?? Now I don't know too much about anyone elses religion, & I don't care too much for my own! Everything in the BIBLE is a contradiction. So I can only say....yes I belive in GOD but NOT the BIBLE - or anything else written by man. After all, what kind of religion states 'you must rid the earth of infedels' - infidels, being ANYONE who does NOT belive in your religion (I think at this moment in time they are really trying hard to do this!?). So 2nd question; What should be put first, LAW or RELIGION? And just so we understand what I would like to do......did you know it only takes 3 people to start a religion? You need a place to 'worship' & more important a set of 'rules' Right I will tell you my 'rules'....1/ you must carry a gun - just in case you come accross a wounded animal. 2/ you must consume at least one pint of beer or double short, once a week - to relive stress. 3/....each member will contribute there own 'rule' (only one each).A place to worship; my house once a month ( other members houses also once a month - & remeber...a place of worship is not subject to council tax). Any one want to sign up? Alan Quote

juleslife Posted June 14, 2006 Posted June 14, 2006  so guys how do we know that there are not musilms riding motorcycles out there in crash helmets ,unless we go following them behind and waiting for him /her to get of and take the helmet off  i always thought safety came first  jules Quote
Dan Gleebitz Posted June 14, 2006 Posted June 14, 2006 I think it's Seikhs and only some Muslims who wear Turbans .... Seikhs and Muslems are also supposed to refrain from alchohol .... Yes you see Muslims and Seikhs on motorcycles ... and most wear helmets ... you also see them in the pubs supping the odd pint or three. IMHO ... I wear a helmet because I wish to be afforded their protection ... if someone is to be a pratt and not wear one ... it'll only kill them ... tough! What I don't like is our government pandering to ethnic minorities and allowing them the freedom and not me, purely on religion / race. In France they would not allow this descrimination and neither should we. Bike / Helmet ... make your choice! Now ..... My wife rides pillion on my bike and she is currently undergoing Chemotherapy. This has left her without hair (but wears a wig). When we go out on the bike (rarely these days) she does not wear her wig and goes without as its more convenient / comfortable. I see Tesco are now insisting motorcyclists remove crash helmets on entering their stores. Obviously she will not want to put her wig on in the car park. We have yet to try them but if they insist on her removing her helmet, then the wrath of press / TV will make them regret it ... and thats a promise! I would also sue them for descrimination (not asking Seikhs to remove turban) and the emotional upset incurred! Quote

RHP Posted June 14, 2006 Posted June 14, 2006 Was going to stay out of this one (believe it or not!), but will make one general statement. Reluctantly accepting the status quo that religion is probably here to stay, then I would apply the simple rule that in any situation where the law and religion are in conflict, then the law takes precedence. Dangly, Mrs G should be OK so long as she puts the visor up - and she's so tiny how could anyone see her as a threat? Now, the hulking great bloke that will be with her, that's a different matter...... Back to the original thread topic. I agree with RHP that the law takes precedence over religion - what's the point in having any form of legislation if it can be overtaken by any form of "religion" - if it becomes reality then I'll set up a Chocolate Sect with our Rob Roy as Archbishop. No guns, I don't do guns. I hate things that go off unexpectedly (incidentally, there was a shot fired near the office today). Experience has made me believe that the religion is for those who need guidence as they can't think for themselves - I've heard it used as an excuse too many times. Guest Domestic Goddess Posted June 14, 2006 Posted June 14, 2006 So 2nd question; What should be put first, LAW or RELIGION? Law1/ you must carry a gun - just in case you come accross a wounded animal. I don't do guns - and if I meet a wounded animal I'll take it to the vet.2/ you must consume at least one pint of beer or double short, once a week - to relive stress. Stress I have - but I don't drink alcohol3/....each member will contribute there own 'rule' (only one each). Each member must abide by MY rules  Quote
