Yeh, Churchill was a great man!

Agree lancelot, but woof, woof, Churchill came in £200 dearer per car than anyone else. I'm no chicken, so after shopping around I went with Liverpool Victoria and got a discount for two of the same Xpics.

Citroen was £20 dearer than LV for me. Also Citroen refused to offer a guaranteed courtesy car, and with 5 people to ferry around - I need it!

As Lancelot said originally, Citroen don't do insurance, they're under written by someone - the Royal Bank of Scotland!!!!!

I'm insured with 1st Central Insurance.  When I changed to the picasso they wanted another £30, so I paid about £280 in total for TPFT.  They didn't have the greatest reviews on the internet when I googled them but never had any trouble with them when I've called up, always quick to pick up the phone and helpful.

£293 at M&S for me....  not the cheapest, but includes all the usual 'extras'  i.e Breakdown, Key Cover etc etc

So today the AA sent me my car insurance renewal. last year it cost me £340, because I had not had any insurance in my name for 3+ years. So I thought well it will go down this year as I now have a huge 1 years NCB. WRONG it went up to £407. I cried in my shredded wheat bowl.

At the same time an email arrived from Money supermarket with this years quotes. Out in front was Churchill who will do the same as the AA for £225. The AA in that list is £379, still too high. So bye bye AA hello Churchill.

the most expensive was £979 do what?

Insurance is a big rip-off everywhere, not just in motoring.

Our combined (two of us old fogies) usually pay around £250 for our annual 3 months in OZ. This includes cover for minor things such as blood pressure.

This year the best quote was £318.

But this year I had dermatitis on my hands and decided that it was best to declare it. One company wanted an extra £690. Thee others that I tried said "No increase"   In the 2 months from taking out the insurance to us departing in January the condition cleared.

Newsitem last week said car premiums were coming down, is it April 1st already ?

So I called the AA and told them that competitors were much cheaper than the £407 they want. Off goes the lad and comes back with a final quote of £349. That includes a special £25 discount for me and a reduction because I'll only do about 5000 miles this year. So I had to decline his offer.

Went to Churchill site and reworked my application for 5K with legal cover etc. and it still comes out at £225. Had a nice online chat with a rep and cleared up a few points. They are also doing a free hire car as a special deal. That means you get a car from day 1 if yours is damaged whereas a courtesy car is only from repair approval date.

So that's the deal done saved £124 in end.

Hi All,

Looking at what some of you are paying for insurance is crazy, I just renewed mine with TESCO on line, protected no claims, 12000 per year, business use and i am an insulin dependant diabetic, total cost £181 per year, i think my excess is about £200,

I hope this may help some of you get a cheaper insurance.

All the best,

Rob.jr

It doesn't really work like that does it.

Post code & House number

Age

Car value

NCB

Miles per year

Excess

There is a street in BN post codes where at one end they pay twice what the other end pay. I know this for sure as a friend moved from one end to the other, same car etc apart from house number

My renewal came through, a shade over £300, straight on to comparison sites, Privilege coming up on all at much less with same cover, my present insurer dropped the premium by £40, but still too high, got back to Privilege site through 'Topcashback' this knocked another £50 off the premium, so I will end up paying in the region of £200 which includes courtesy car, NCD protection, legal etc and £150 vol excess. Did the same for breakdown cover [green insurance company] National cover, recovery, homestart with a 12% discount, I'm happy

Quite a while back my son had his Xpic written off, at the time he was with Hastings insurance, almost immediately he was jumped on by a claims company urging him to put in a claim for back injury etc, even though they were persistent he repeatedly refused them, now he has had a second car written off, this time his fault, there were no personal injuries by either party, but now he has been informed by his insurers that the third parties insurance company are suddenly claiming 'soft tissue & whiplash' injuries in the region of £4000, guess what, the other persons insurers are Hastings !!!!

These bogus ambulance chaser claims were featured on Rip of Britain and there has been this last week a series on BBC1 about false claims from set up car crashes. The insurance companies are stomping down on this big time. To be fair to Hastings (not and never have been with them) I don't think it's actually them but a third party company that instigate this crap.

One of the items on the TV prog was a claim where a bloke crashed into a car in front. He says there were only two in the car at the time but the eventual claim was for three persons injuries. However what the hit car didn't know was that the bloke who supposedly hit them had a small live camera recording all the event. It turned out to be a set up starting on a Mway entry roundabout and slip road. Two cars working together get in front of the victims car and then at the bottom of the slip road the middle car brake heavily, which causes the accident. The perps were convicted

Saw that on TV, excellent series, also noticed which nationality was profusely featured, say no more

Dick Turpin is due to be dropping that Insurance renewal through the door again soon, already got the price off the company for the renewal so I can scour the comparison sites, they all sound quite competitive, until that is the bits and pieces are added; ncb protection, legal cover etc, I may well be phoning Privilege to shave a few quid off the price, last year was £245, renewal is going to be £281, same c4 picasso, a year older, worth less, probably be written off if a bulb blows. Robbing sods

ps, Martin Lewis recons premiums are due to rocket in november

My policy last year was with Swinton but in reality AVIVA. This year it had risen a whopping £75 to £294 not including vehicle recovery or driving abroad.

I went on uSwitch and found ONE CALL would do it for £225 including legal, courtesy car, breakdown/recovery, windscreen & driving abroad.

So I went to SWINTON office and they instantly cut it down to 227, but could add recovery or driving aboard in the deal and that would have driven the premium back up to £299.

Even the AA were cheaper than SWINTON.

So I'll be going with ONE CALL.

Got a Swinton quote, even with the £50 cashback, their figure of £440 was ridiculous, My lad, who has managed to write off 2 cars in about 3 years has managed a renewal of less than £400, and he is in a bad post code area as well. Tried uswitch and one call, both OTT, still shopping

This year I reached 70 and that is I think what the bug bear is not the car etc. Discrimination or what.
