02 plate Xsara Picasso 2.0 HDi

Does anyone know how to get a cambelt change cheaper in France (specifically near Evian-les-Bains)?

Local garage quoted over €600 for the cambelt change and over €400 for a major service, which looks pretty steep to me. I was expecting to find Citroen servicing cheaper in France, but it's been quite the opposite. Any ideas?

My water pump let go @ 60k on an 05 plate 1.6hdi should it have gone longer??

I would say it's quite rare for a water pump to fail before the first cam-belt change, certainly can't remember any on her over the past 10yrs +, usually they're are changed as a matter of course when the cam-belts changed.......

That is what i thought. I work as an assistant service manager in a volvo dealer. My pump failed bent the cambelt tensioner fortunately no engine damage. Citrtoen customer relations say no issue as belt not broken and it out of warranty.

I think you've just been the unlucky one, as I said no other reports so it's not like theres a history of defective parts / design issues, just one of them things I suppose. Frankly I'm surprised they last beyond 100,000mls myself bearing in mind the extreme temperatures, think you just need to be grateful it wasn't the cambelt that failed co's that would p*** you off http://www.citroenpicasso.org.uk/picasso/public/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif

hi all mine is 2001 sx 1.8,just bought, have done belt, waterpump, etc, mileage was 121000,belt had few chunks out of it,was last serviced at 88000,full kit cost £52,waterpump £30.00,front were nearly worn,£12.00,i did it in day,as i had to wait for the waterpump to be instock, due to lack of room very timeconsuming, but i kept at it,started at 11,finished at 6,used vauxhall anti-freeze,very cheap..

Just booked my 53 plate pic 2.0 HDi Diesal at a local garage which was recommended to me by a fried. She has 107,000 miles on here.

Full service came in at £129.00. Cam Belt change came in at £257.00 which i thought was excellent value.

The garage is in Netherton in the West Midlands. Its called The Car Lot 01384 241222 tell them you heard about them on here.

Sorry to hear that your 107,000 mile friend has been fried.

Sounds good cost wise to have her refurbished, did they rub her bottom down?

i did my own a few weeks ago,kit cost £52.00,waterpump i changed aswell,£30.,changed the front pads,£12.00...its seems the last owner had never serviced it since 2006,got my own service kit at £45,oil was cheaper from vauxhall £10.00 own brand stuff, did the usual, plugs, oil, filter, air filter cheapie, pollen filter, mileage now 121,000,1.8 2001,thats the best to do on older picasso, not all owners look after them..which is shame... :torch:

This seems like a good a place as any to ask about my cam belt.

I recently purchased a 2001 XPic 2.0Hdi with only 37,000 on the clock (genuine miles and only one previous owner as I carried out a fairly expensive hpi check on it before purchasing to be sure). It was an absolute bargain for the milage, mainly due to a few scratches on the rear passanger side wing from where it had been scraped.

The only porblem I have is that the engine does sound a bit rough at all times, both when idling and under acceleration. I'm wondering if it could be the cam belt, water pump or crankshaft pully, but will obviously need to get a mechanic to have a listen to be sure.

What I do want to know though, should I be getting my cam belt and water pump changed now anyway? The car is 10 years old, but it only has 37,000 on the clock?

A big yes to the cam belt as it has reached its life’s end because of age, not usage. Change the water pump at the same time, just to be sure. Because of it's age and low mileage it sounds like a "shopping Car".

I'd give it a good welly in 3rd gear to try and blow the accumulated crap out of the engine and maybe put in some injector cleaner before you thrash it.

Cheers for the reply.

Yeah, the first thing I did when I bought it was put some forbes injector cleaner in it and then gave it good bit of acceleration to clear it out.

You've pretty much confirmed what I'd been thinking with the timing belt as I can only assume the car has been used for a lot of stop/start town driving, so will get it done as soon as.

Hopefully that will see to the noise from the engine, which defintely sounds like it's coming from the timing belt area. Do timing belts on these cars get noisy when they're getting a bit worn?

Posted
The noise is usually the crankshaft pulley getting worn along with the belt tensioner. If you are having a new belt make sure you have the rollers and the tensioner changed as well. Get them to check for any movement on the crank pulley. I personally advise to change the water pump at the same time, not very expensive and can go quickly under the tension of a new belt.
