Remember the 1980's era of giving shares to members of building society's to convert them to banks?

It was a way of legally pinching the members society's.

Now they have the cheek to ask for them back in a rights issue.

'Buy to let' had to fail how can you maintain a house for someone else without some knowledge of how to maintain it.

The list of blunders is endless.

The chap who was sent to prison for buying shares fot Baring bank causing it to collapse was a classic example these bank managers are no different to that chap and should be treated the same for misleading people like the Pensions people.

No one has replied to Banks and Building societies

That's because we can't see it until Monday (check the original post date!!) :P

We have some HBOS shares as a result of having our mortgage and some modest savings with them. The 200 page document explaining the rights issue arrived yesterday - not had a chance to be baffled by it yet!

My IFA has told me to hold fire and wait till the last possible time to post a cheque to them he has told me to watch the share price and to see what happens because they are worth less at the moment than when the rights price was fixed.

He also said that its not a bad time to buy into banks as the values of the shares of all are quite low and that if you were looking for long term return that now was a perfect time to invest, but just be realistic that you may not get back what you invested over the short term.

I quite fancy a few extra shares to top up my holding, but like supercar says you do feel you have been fiddled out of your share and you have had your shares devalued and made less inportant, you end up with less of a share in the company than you use to have and get smaller dividends if you choose not to buy extra.

I quite like the tail swallow idea, but how few shares would you get if the value of the shares on the open marked were to stay the same or lower.

As for the book it would take a month to read and digest its contents

I would prefer to make it a level playing field for everyone.

Everyone should (not deserves) a reasonable place to live and everyone matters that should be everyones goal.

Not interested in short term gains.

But have the intelligence to create it.

Its a proper right issue now 0.83 HBOS for one Lloyds TSB

You could buy them at 80p last week who would have thought skoolkids would be allowed to make our banks and financial institutions into penny share company's.

Look at Bradford B finished at 28p get some bought HBOS, Barclays etc have plenty in bought in this Co. It's a case of who will make the best deal when the dust settles greedy pigs.

Yep...they are falling like skittles. Not surprised really when you see the kind of ever increasing lending they have offered year on year.

When t'other half and I first took out our mortgage in the early 70's we could have have one no more than

2.5 X our combined salaries. I was on £2002 pa and t'missus was on less than half this. The mortgage company wanted a deposit of not less than £500 on a £4000 house and the mortgage interest rate was about 11% + an intensive financial interview with the building society manager.

Until recently they have been dragging people in off the street to offer massive mortgage loans and credit galore. Inevitably the structure has developed gaping cracks for many and more will crumble.

Well i'm going to start a business.. don't know what but dosn't matter as if it works i make millions, if it fails i loose... nothing, i'll just let the tax payer pay for all my mistakes and greed and i'll keep my million pound houses, super cars and loads in the bank. Good old Mr Brown.. "never a frown.. with gordon brown.."

when you consider our national debt, this country is bust.

Labour inherited a frowing, solid economy.. looks like the tories will inherit a mess and will have to rocket up taxes to dig us all out.

Can Brown etc be done for treason ??

Our TSB shares are in 'er indoors name and she hasn't a clue what they are worth, she has never looked since she got them, and I daren't tell her what she has lost.

I lost about 5k on the shares of the company that I worked for over the years, and the others are looking very limp.

The Americans have voted NOT to put forward the $700bn package to write off the debts of their banks (or whatever it was for). That's probably why the Dow Jones has plummeted.

Isn't it strange that the media never mentions the'Socialist' bank COOP

They have access points all over the country in local shops

How can the other banks use the term 'Ethical banking' after this caper

Try the above sound as a Pound/Euro

Perhaps Gordon has a cunning plan, Northern Rock and The Bradford and Bingley reprocess houses and flats that people have been unable to keep up their mortgage payments on and turn them into social housing selling them to councils and housing associations.
