peahouse05 Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 HiMy 2006 1.6 petrol Picasso Desire with 8000 miles is to be delivered shortly (ex-mobility car). The non-franchised dealer offers a three months parts and labour guarantee. He also offers a three-year parts and labour guarantee for £16.74 per month ie approx £200 per year.I have the Haynes manual for the Picasso and the electrics look pretty complicated along with every thing else.I hope I'm allowed to ask a question - is this a reasonable deal in view of the Picasso's reliability?Cheerspeahouse05 Quote
Border_Collie Posted August 21, 2009 Posted August 21, 2009 My past experience with this type of guarantee. Bedford van chewed the gears up within about three months - £600 for new gearbox - not covered - normal wear and tear. Peugeot 306 Diesel Estate (ex mobility car) black smoking within a couple of months - just over £300 for new diesel pump - not covered - normal wear and tear. Both cases I had to continue paying the premiums. If they can get out of it they will. Better off putting your £16.74 a month in the bank ready to go towards any repairs. Quote
JoeBlunt Posted August 21, 2009 Posted August 21, 2009 I tend to agree, they use scare tactics to sell you a warranty (quoting megabucks for repairs only to tell you later it doesn't cover your 'wear'n'tear' fault). Quote
peahouse05 Posted August 21, 2009 Author Posted August 21, 2009 Thanks GuysWill certainly look very carefully at the terms and conditionsand yes, I agree, they will make every effort not to pay out.At least you have enabled me to ask the right questions.Cheerspeahouse05 Quote
peahouse05 Posted August 27, 2009 Author Posted August 27, 2009 Hi GuysTook your advice and refused a 3-year warrantee on my Pic when I picked it up (£600). Also refused an insurance to cover a write-off back to the buying price - I think it cost £300.However when I rang the AA to change cover to the new vehicle I was offered a deal based on the low mileage (8800 miles). For £52 a year any breakdown not repaired at the roadside would be recovered to a garage of my choice and repaired. I pay the first £25 and the AA pay the remainder, up to £500. I have accepted this and the paperwork is on the way and there is a cooling off period. Hope I've got it right!Would welcome comments from members on this.Cheerspeahouse05 Quote

mcdig Posted August 27, 2009 Posted August 27, 2009 The AA repair cover is an excellent deal, just make sure that you have service history from an approved garage or they will not pay. I know a few lads from the MGZR forums who have head gaskets on K series engines done under this scheme, saved them lots of pennies ;) Quote
