JoeBlunt Posted October 16, 2010 Posted October 16, 2010 Mine & SWMBO's cars are up for renewal soon and my current insurer has almost doubled our premiums this year, how are others finding their quotes? Time to shop around me thinks............... Quote
puddytat Posted October 16, 2010 Posted October 16, 2010 Just renewed mine, the renewal was around £50 more with no ncd protections and the conditions changed, included cover in Europe reduced from 60 days to 8 days,so went on a hunt ended up with Saga at around £70 less and better conditions, protected ncd and unlimited full cover in Europe at no extra cost.Asking about home insurance got me £20 off (just asked, didn't have to take out home cover). Trouble is I suspect I'm going to have to go on another search next year. Quote
mcdig Posted October 16, 2010 Posted October 16, 2010 Just changed cars and got the renewal through, same as last year to a few pennies. On a few forums and lots have had big increases this year. Quote
David Shaw Posted November 18, 2010 Posted November 18, 2010 I had to laugh this year, mine came through with a voucher for 10% off as I hadn't claimed that year, the qoute was actually 40% more than the previous year..... went on a comparison webby, and got a cheaper quote than previous year and they reduced it in line with the quote. Always good to shop around Quote
asksibbs Posted December 12, 2010 Posted December 12, 2010 iam paying around 500 pounds fire and theft iam 35 with 4 years no claims seems way too much to me Quote

stimulator Posted December 13, 2010 Posted December 13, 2010 Our c3 renewal fell due when we were in the USA back in October. Before leaving the uK in Sept I contacted the insurance company, One call, and was told that it was too early to be told the premium or for that matter to renew (6 weeks). So a week before I emailed from the uSA. This time I was told that the renewal had been posted to me yes you guessed it in the UK. Another email back and a reply supposedly with the renewal dos inan attachment. That was blank. My daughter emailed me to say that the renewal was to be £314 up from £174 44.6% increase. No claims in the year both over 65. That was for the same policy, Fully Comp, protected NCB, legal, (NO free car though during repair) Rescue service. Went on Go Compare and found that I could get a better deal from One Call car included for £190. So cancelled the policy. returned from USA Nov and then looked on Go Compare again. Went with Prudential in the end as One Call was then up to £230. pru cost £219. rescue from Green insurance £21 so the costs have gone up, not due to me but I still saved £74 and also moved the renewal date back by 3.5 weeks loyalty, there isn't any, change every year it's so easy BUT make sure you get your renewal cert as it shows the NCB. Lancelot Posted December 13, 2010 Posted December 13, 2010 When we go to OZ my car stands in the drive for almost 3 months. I've always been tempted to not insure it 'till we come home towards the end of March but have never done so. Quote
Dan Gleebitz Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 Continuous Insurance .... the next means whereby the Government wrings more money out of us .. Continious Insurance Quote
stimulator Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 That's very interesting. Points. The car was locked away in our garage so wasn't on the public road. The car is fully taxed. But under the new 'scheme' we would have had to declare it SORN before going to USA. That would have meant that we would not have bopthered to tax it or need insurance thus saving more money. note that this siutuation only arose because the insurance company wouldn't divulge the renewal costs before we left for the USA. Lancelot Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 Had half an hour spare so took a look at premiums for renewal in January. LV £273.71Nationwide £294.90AXA £343.39AA £427.00SAGA £472.70esure £535.38AGE U.K £557.17Morethan £634.20Castle Cover £747.28Co-operative £822.12 Same details given for each. No claims for almost 30 years, one spent speeding ticket in 2005. Been driving for 55 years. Co-op said that I could reduce the premium if I put my wife on the policy. I said that she hasn't driven for over 25 years and does not intend to drive. The answer was "If she still has a licence put her on and reduce the premium." I asked if that would reduce it by £555 to below the quote from LV. "I DOUBT it" was the reply! Quote
JoeBlunt Posted December 14, 2010 Author Posted December 14, 2010 Try Churchill Lancy - Oooooooooooooh Yes! Quote
mcdig Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 If you via the quidco online site you will also get another £20 discount.www.quidco.com/home/ Just done my home insurance and got another £40 off. Quote
stimulator Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 We were with LV three years ago, first year is cheap (was the cheapest quote) but then in the second year it goes up by about 40%, you loose the freebe extras like protected and legal. So the answer is to move every year Quote
martyn404 Posted December 21, 2010 Posted December 21, 2010 (edited) We use Admiral multi car. We have our 1.6i 2001 Picasso and a 1.1 saxo forte 2001. We use my no claims ( 14yrs) & I have 1 speeding ticket still in force (37mph in a 30) for the Picasso and my Mr's is a named business driver but I don't have business use! We use my Mrs's no claims (9yrs) for where she also has business use on the saxo. My stepdaughter who's 19 is a named driver on the saxo. I am a named driver without business use! This complicated little bundle costs us... For the Saxo 1300 quid fully protected no claims comprehensive for me and the Mr's but comprehensive only and with a 600 excess for my stepdaughter( we only paid a grand for the car) For the Picasso 500 quid fully protected no claims comprehensive! Add another 2 grand if we wanted to put my step daughter on the schedule. That's almost 2 grand to insure two cars for a year! After lot's of shopping round Admiral Multicar was by far the cheapest policy we could find anywhere! Edited December 21, 2010 by martyn404 Quote
stimulator Posted December 22, 2010 Posted December 22, 2010 (edited) the weird incomprehensable thoughts of car insurance compies. my nephews wife decided to bugger off the other month. nephew goes to the insurance company and says that he wishes to take the ex off his insurance cover. Result, his premium would rise by £50. If he leaves her on it it stays the same.reason:..... Single men are more likely to make a claim than a married man???? stimulator Posted December 29, 2010 Posted December 29, 2010 (edited) can I phone a friend? seriously, how do they justify the big differences?I know from surfing the web for insurance that many of the companies are in fact the same group. many come under Groupama (Spanish what else) so if oone can do it for £200 why can't Coop at £882. Lancelot Posted December 29, 2010 Posted December 29, 2010 From 24 years as a Sales Engineer I know how some companies work. It's get what you can where you can get it. For a specific electric motor repair I was told "We want £1,000 but we'll take it even at £580 if that is the best price that you can get as it mean that the opposition loses the job and it keeps our production hours higher. See what you can do." No doubt we still made a profit at £580 although not the profit that we aimed for. It's dog eat dog in the real world out there. Quote
stimulator Posted December 29, 2010 Posted December 29, 2010 I see the point and the last company I worked for had a policy that it would undercut the opposition just to get the job. we ran one of our flight simulators at a loss of $100/hour just to get customers thru the door away from the opposition across the street. Now that poilcy seems to have backfired on both of the companies, one sold all but 20% of its holding and the other had to reduce its operation from 4 centres to one in the space of a year. Problem is that a loss of $100/hour on a 20hr day works out at a $2000/day loss which becomes unsustainable as the other equipment cannot be overcharged to make up the difference. The overheads of the power required to run and the staffing levels to run the department increase. Problem is that the bean counters run the companies not the operators who know the true costs. I brokered a deal with a company to supply high quality projector bulbs (LCD on quartz) that had to be changed every 2000 hrs at a 20% discount, originally that was 18% but by ordering 6 months supply in one go I got the extra discount. However when the bill was presented to accounts they sat on it for two months. The supplier pulled the plug and I had to look else where. Result, ended up paying 5% over the original pre discount price. Bean counter then told me to look else where, told him to call the original company and the manufacturer of the equiptment and see what he could get. He couldn't bettre my original and ended up paying thru the nose. QED Quote
Lancelot Posted December 29, 2010 Posted December 29, 2010 Maybe they should be called clowns not bean counters. Although retired for 10 years now they were increasingly outruling Engineers when it came to puchasing and at times the result were a disaster. Who had the best office, the Accountant or the Engineer who kept the factory in production, don't ask. Quote
