JoeBlunt Posted February 10, 2006 Posted February 10, 2006 Genuine offence? Over reaction? Marches in London this week (3rd one?) It seems some are trying to drag this out whatever the cost? A Protestor dressed as a Suicide Bomber, isn't that just as offensive gloryfying killing innocent people? Wonder what would have happened if Police shot him? Quote
Stan.S. Posted February 10, 2006 Posted February 10, 2006 Wonder what would have happened if Police shot him? Probably would have gone to paradise and claimed the 70 virgins!! :) Quote
Jubilado Posted February 11, 2006 Posted February 11, 2006 The sweetest of the infamous cartoons shows a queue of smoking and tattered ex-bombers arriving above cloud level to be greeted, by a turban wearing figure, with the words, "Stop, stop, we've run out of virgins". I tend not to like gratuitous provocation between any groups but this incident and its consequences, have served to remind me just how much I do value the freedom of thought that I have inherited. JoeBlunt Posted February 11, 2006 Author Posted February 11, 2006 It seems to me there are some that want any excuse to 'kick off'! Quote
stimulator Posted February 11, 2006 Posted February 11, 2006 OK switch the places around and having lived in Kuwait and Saudi Arabia for a total of 14 years I can tell you now that the convicted drug dealer would not have been at the rally in Riyadh city centre to demonstrate against the cartoons as he'd be dead as they cut off dealers heads there. I never heard a church bell ring in Saudi they don't exist. Margret Thatcher was requested by the King of SA to allow the dawn call to prayers to be heard in Birmingham and london, it's before 7am so illegal. Yes she said I will allow this, many thanks says the King you are a true believer and great person, BUT only she says when i hear a church bell ring in Saudi. Quote
Jaybee Posted February 11, 2006 Posted February 11, 2006 I found it very strange that when certain muslims got upset in London because the cartoons depicted muslims as suicide bombers and terrorists, their solution was to dress up as suicide bombers, carry offensive slogans, spread terror, and tell everybody how misunderstood they were! As a god-fearing aethiest I try very hard to understand everyone's beliefs, I went on a visit to a mosque last year, and got some straight answers to some straight questions. Sadly there seem to be so many branches of Islam, not all as welcoming. The Imam pointed out there are many christian churches, methodist, protestant, catholic, pentacostal etc.. as indeed there are, but I told him that as an aetheist I live side by side with them and don't feel threatened. [Took part in a memorial service last week at the Parish church, and did a non-religous reading as the vicar [a good friend] knows my views.] The Imam was worried that certain people were suffering from "Islama-phobia". He got a shock when I told him I was! since, in the true sense of the word "Phobia" is a fear, [claustrophobia etc.] as well as a hatred. I don't hate islam, but I am very frightened of it. It seems to be a most intolerrant religion, My daughter is a 25 yr old high-flying Patent lawyer in a pharmecuetical company, with a double honours degree in chemistry and law, under Isalm what would she be? We have a large Pakistan/bangladeshi population around here, I don't know of any Muslims in this country who have been persecuted or imprisoned just for their beliefs, but we know there are many christians in that situation in Muslim countries. PS Funny thing is, as an aetheist at the mosque, the muslims respected the christians, and the christians respected the muslims, even though they each thought they believed in the only true god, [and one of our ladies here at the homes thinks I am in league with the devil, even though I tell her that it is only Christians who believe in the devil!] Quote
RHP Posted February 11, 2006 Posted February 11, 2006 I have no bias for or against any religion. I find them all equally contemptible  Quote
