Hi all,

I recently purchased a Dragon Performance unit for my C8 after many visits to my local Citroen dealer complaining of poor/excessive fuel consumption and crap acceleration. I was only getting 26 MPG on a decent run with 2 adults and 4 kids on board.

Fitted the Dragon unit at the weekend and have to say WOW! (Took me 1 hour to fit)

Fuel consumption is now up to 35.7 MPG on short trips and the sluggish acceleration has now gone.

I got this one from Ebay for £100.00 plus VAT, buy one now you will not regret it.

My question is really about your experiences with your C8's, was it just me that had crap fuel consumption and very poor acceleration or is it the whole range that was affected?

PS. Anyone know if the latest Clarion USB head units will work with the controls fitted to the C8?

Thanks

Hi there,

Not many replies yet, which is a surprise to me as I have the same concern. I've also been looking for people's real life experience of performance economy. So come on everyone! Let me know!

I too think the car should be a bit more spritely and more frugal on the juice - i.e. towards 40mpg on a run. I've never got close. Yet these are the published expected economy figures!

I've got the C8 2.2 diesel too (2004) and am getting similar consumption. On average, I get 30mpg. I drive fairly fast and this is typical 80mph indicated consumption. when loaded with x2 granparents and x2 children and wife, and driving at a 'family-friendly' speed, i.e. normally, I also got 28-30 mpg.

I recently pulled a trailer with x2 motorbikes. The car towed well. I still got 27-30 mpg.

I've just had a new turbo fitted (under warranty - phew!) and this made no difference to either acceleration or economy.

I spoke with my local (Godalming) dealer. He said the old 'I'm not interested' chestnut of it is all down to the driver! 40mpg is 33% better than 30mpg and you can't possibly excuse that all down to driving style, unless one of the drivers is Lewis Hamilton and the comparison is with my granny!

I'll be trying the Dragon performance route I think!

Mark,

I'm a techie by trade or should say I was a few years ago and I was certain that it was down to a poorly programmed EPROM in the engine ECU.

Closest I could get to a reprogramme was Citroen to upload the lastest software, guess what, it was still crap on fuel consumption.

I bit the bullet and bought the Dragon performance box, took about 40 minutes to fit. Oh boy, what a difference it made to the acceleration and fuel consumption on the car.

My C8 is on 33K now and I haven't seen the fuel stats go below 34mpg since fitting it.

Best £100 I spent on the car ever!!!

hi guys,

I've had my C8 for a month now, and am just into the third tankful of diesel. The first couple of tanks gave me 32-33 MPG on average (calculated from distance/fill-up volume), with combined commute/motorway usage. This is is pretty much what I expected for the 2.0 HDi (although it could probably be better!) and my driving style. I also managed to confirm that the on board MPG gauge is pretty accurate, as it reported similar figures to my calculations.

Thanks for the replies.

I have now purchased something similar to the Dragon unit and now get everything you guys get - what an absolute difference!!!

I bought a 'Cheetah' diesel tuning unit from ebay seller kbtv (there's loads of different makes advertised there. They all do similar things) for £85. It took an hour to fit, at most, and was very straightforward. The hardes part was locating the right plug, and then unscrewing the large 3" pipe that goes to the turbo. This was in the way. There is no gasket on it, so it was simple to move and then replace.

I'm now getting the perkiness I expected right across the rev range, and miles better fuel economy. Driving in 'family mode', with the children on board, I got 40mpg on a 200mile moterway run.

PM me if you want any photos of where you fit the thing.
