Ronin Posted May 18, 2008 Posted May 18, 2008 hi i have just put a new radio in my c5 but when i turn of the ignition the radio stays on does any body know how to fix this even if i turn the radio off it keeps telling me to put the code back in like it the power just put on I'm afraid you are going to have to be a bit more elaborate on your problem m8. Is it a replacement citroen head unit or another make? All I can tell you for now is when fitting an aftermarket model (mine was ministry of sound) I had to buy an ISO blanking plate to make it look right in the dash and an conversion adaptor for the arial I was lucky with the MOS head unit as it came with an ISO harness that plugs straight into the citroen plugs although the display on the top of the dash doesn't display or the column remote stalk wont work. these need a converter to work (which I wasn't bothered about really). There was also seperate bullet connector block that allowed me to turn it to ignition on only with the head unit from a the red wire to yellow instead. To my knowledge you can probably do this with the radio fuse in a different spare fuse holder socket on your C5 fusebox.I know for sure this works on the Xantia's by moving the radio fuse into the empty socket below its original location. I can't see why the C5 wouldn't have the same option. Check your C5 owners manual for confirmation on this.(I will look later at mine and post back ok) If its a replacement head unit from Citroen or a scrapyard etc. you will have to do:a. the fuse relocation as above then....b. input the radio security code. Lockout will happen after a few attempts and you will have to wait a while to re-type it in. If it didn't come with a code then you will have to contact citroen with the make /model number and registration, expect them to charge you some money for this code. ;) Quote

Ronin Posted May 25, 2008 Posted May 25, 2008 hi thanks it's an sony head unit and i cant look at it at this time as the wife has it at work but will look when she gets home.Ahh if it's a sony head unit there should be an option for pemanent power to the head unit, check your head unit serial/ model/number for faq's on the sony ICE web site. <_< Quote
seefive Posted May 30, 2008 Posted May 30, 2008 HiDid you get this sorted? I too have tried to fit a Sony unit, (model cdx -gt210) and can't get a switched feed, despite trying every combination of red and yellow wires ( straight, crossed and merged). When I unlock the car there's a surge of power to the radio which puts it into demo mode and wipes all the settings - no good at all. At the moment I have put the original faulty Clarion/Citroen unit (shutting down at random) back in and I'm hoping for the best. I think the problem is the Citroen wiring - it provides both switched and permanent feed (you can switch the radio on after turning the engine off) Can't overcome this. Tried taking the fuse out, but that just killed the radio completely.Next move will be a visit to the Cutroen dealer to get the power supply checked out. Quote
Guest sirdrinksalot Posted May 31, 2008 Posted May 31, 2008 I have replaced the head unit in my 2002 c5, Like all i had problems with the wiring.Unlike conventional cars and their wiring the power for the radio fires up when the unlock button is pressed on the remote so the two wire's feeding the radio seem to be live permanently, after playin with the wire's i managed to find the constant live so was able to wire the unit ok. seefive Posted June 1, 2008 Posted June 1, 2008 When I unlock the car there's a surge of power to the radio which puts it into demo mode and wipes all the settings - no good at all. RESOLVED!! A setting on the radio called "auto off" was causing the problem. Having disabled that, I can now sitch off - radio goes into standby, and the feed goes dead after 5 minutes. When I unlock the car, radio comes back on in stanby mode with all settings intact. Push the "source" button and it starts playing where it left off. If I foget to switch off, the feed goes dead shutting the radio down, and unlocking the car brings it back on in live mode - it starts playing before you get in. Putting a complex Japanese radio in a complex French car is such fun!! BTW - anyone have advise on fascia adaptors? - easy enough to get on Ebay, do they fit OK? Thanks Quote

ThanksYes they do m8 with no problems and look as if they were designed with the car. I got mine from the local Halfords (order in within 3 days at a tenner). No screws needed it just clips in.The cover goes over the two switches "boot release & central locking" either side of the stereo so you won't need to use the two extra switch covers from OEM. The only thing I found was a bit shoddy was the bottom lip of the new fascia was a bit sharp and unfinished but a quick zip along with some 800 grit sand paper soon sorted that out. ;) Quote
