  1. access to the leaking pipe is restricted - don't think i would be able to make a connection close to it - so would need to make a joint each side of the tank. so i would probably have the same difficulty dropping the tank. I have actually bought a new pipe ( £82) but didnt get any advice from dealer about fiiting it. Problem now is I will need to get the car to a garage to have it fitted unless i can figure a way of doing it myself. Do you know what type of unions i would need to get and wher i could get them from?
  2. Hi Has anyone replaced them main hydraulic supply pipe that runs from front to back - the one that runs over the fuel tank ? Looks like the exhaust, heat shield, tank and underbody covers need to come off ? Does anyone know if there is a quick way to do this? 2004 C5 MK1saloon 2.0HDI - Apart from this leak an otherwise great car with 225000 miles ! - I would like to keep her going for a bit longer Thanks in advance
  3. I had a similar problem with my 2004 MK1 2.0HDI Saloon with 139K miles. Back end sinking after a few hours also what i expected from reading the forum was leaking rear struts. The rear suspension was a bit harder than normal which i had put down to large pot holes in our area due to the extremly bad winter. However the leak on the offside strut was in fact overspill from the neck of the fuel tank which empties some where above the strut. Fortunately I had some spare rear spheres which i had bought off Ebay at an irristable price - (i had already replaced failed front spheres at 125K, so suspected rear would need replacing soon) As soon as i replaced the spheres the suspension was restored to normal just like the old BX type fault. The local independent Citroen garage i had phoned had pointed to possible failed Strut so im glad i had just tried this out myself as the exersise only cost me aout £75 including 2 ltrs of Fluid
  4. hi bigdavie i had a problem fitting mine also - had to remove the fuel filter to make access easier i fitted a tdi tuning chip which i purchased secondhand from ebay for about half its normal price. i found that the extra power is quite noticeable - not that i use it for this as the main reason i bought it was for economy. Also the chip makes the car a lot more driveable ie i can do less than 40mph in 4th gear which i was not able to do before. i have had the car for nearly 2 years and have kept records of fuel consumption and can say that the economy has increased to about 2 mpg on average. i can also tell you that the worst diesel for economy is esso - which seems to give about 4 mpg less than usual! i always feel really cheated if i had to fill up there!
  5. Please see my previous post - the noise & vibration is probably caused by a siezed freewheel pulley on your alternator. the valeo alternator on my 2004 2.0hdi 110 is fitted with one. the way to check it is to try and turn the cooling blades with a small screwdriver ( might be best if you disconnect alternator first) you can just about see these blades through the slots furthest away from the pulley. They should be able to turn one way but not the other. if they can't be turned either way, your freewheel pulley is siezed and will need to be replaced
  6. If any of you are having a a problem of a noisy auxillary drive belt/tensioner jumping about, you will find the problem is a siezed "freewheel pulley" on your alternator. A lot of cars are now being fitted with these pulleys, designed for smoother running and of course being another service item which will cost us a small fortune to diagnose and replace. When the freewheel siezes the belt gathers up behind pulley making a right clatter and shredding the drive belt I was going to replace one on my 1999 Ford Galaxy 1.9TDI and managed to find a local Bosche Specialist who would fit it for me if i purchased it (about £35) from him (surprise, surprise you need a special splined tool to remove pulley!) The alternator took so long to manouver out of the car i decided to check the brushes and ended up replacing the alternator which came with pulley for about £185. You will need to replace drive belt which shreds up quickly under these conditions. I have checked my2004 C5 2.0 HDI 110 and surprise surprise there is one fitted to mine! There is a chap on the Ford Galaxy forum called littledaz who thankfully has enlightened everybody as to the existence of this pulley so you can thank him for this advice
