  1. I took my car to the Citroen garage today as my C3 Hdi seems a bit sluggish and the cruise when set, loses speed. They wanted to charge 40+VAT for 30 mins, to give it a diagnostics test. I too think this is expensive and they cannot fit it in until 17th November! It may well be off the road by then, so I will have to take it elsewhere. What was your fault in the end?
  2. Having had my C3 for a few months now, I recently had it off road as the engine mount broke. This has now been replaced by my mechanic. He looked, but could not find any damage which may have been caused by the engine collapsing. However, getting back in the driving seat and taking it daily up the motorway, I have noticed that once I set the speed for the cruise control, it does tend to drop a few mph. Not sure if this should happen as my previous car with cruise stayed at the same mph it was set at. Also, if I put my foot down whilst in 5th, it seems very sluggish to pick up, seems there's a bit of power loss. I took it to have the exhaust checked today as I thought it sounded noisy on the motorway coming from under front of car, but that all seems fine... any of you technical bods have any answers???
  3. I had some time to spare today driving back from Gatwick, almost all motorway. I decided to set the average mpg and drive using cruise at 55-60mph over about 43 miles. I got an average of 78.3 which I thought was excellent, and even more reason to recommend this car. I am sure if you have your HDi by now, you will find same and a huge saving over the Ford.
  4. Can anyone recommend a good set of parking sensors? There are so many of them out there and I had a bad experience with a set bought a few years back for a Saab. Preferably want them colour coded and fitted.
  5. Yes, I decided to walk away from that one, not only because of the problem but too many miles again. Have managed to find a 23K 03HDi Exclusive, which is terrific.
  6. Yes, it is my first diesel and it has covered 23000 miles. I think when I am cruising, I get the revs around 2200 to 2500 at around 63mph. I do notice the difference, as I used to cruise with my last car (petrol) at above 3000. I will try setting the trip computer.
  7. Hi, thanks for that. I had a feeling it was a Turbo as it is certainly nippy! I particularly bought an HDi as I heard they do about 65-70mpg. As I do a lot of motorway driving, I was hoping to achieve this, but what kind of speed would I have to be driving? I have been watching the computer but so far I have only got an average of 58 with my max speed of 67mph. Does this sound right or are there any tips for getting better mpg?
  8. Hello, I have just bought my first Citroen. :D Its a C3 1.4HDi Exclusive. It's a great spec with lots of toys and 92bhp. I was reading some of these engines are turbo diesels. Is there a way I can check if mine is turbo? (without getting my hands dirty?!!)
  9. If I were to buy and take it to a Citroen garage, do they have the computer equipment they link up to vehicles to ascertain faults? I used to have a Saab which used to get linked to a computer which diagnosed every fault on the vehicle! I guess Citroen would be the expensive option, perhaps a friend in the know is who to go for!
  10. Thanks techbod, would you say these problems easily and inexpensively diagnosed at a garage?
  11. It has been a few weeks since I was hoping to get my hands on my first C3. However, the last one I was thinking of buying had done in excess of £130K, so I decided to give it a miss. I have now found another, it has less miles (75k,) but the owners tell me it has an intermittent problem. It seems the temperature gauge goes up quite high. They turn the engine off, it goes down and then seems to be ok. With all you technical peops out there, is it likely to be anything serious, or is it perhaps just a faulty gauge? Any help would be gratefully received!
  12. Well, after a lot of debating, I have decided to go for it and I will get it checked over and serviced asap. At least I can be assured as a new Citroen owner, I can come on this site for help when I need it!! Thanks to all for help and advice. :)
  13. I think I must have spoken to this guy already, last week. He told me that the car had had the cambelt changed at 105k. I can get the car for 2,700 and I would never look at paying anything near 3995 with that mileage. Can you advise how much a full service costs on average for the diesel and how often it needs it? Would I still get 65+ mpg with that sort of mileage do you think?
  14. The car is coming from Wales and I called the dealer where it has had most of its servicing carried out and it has full history up to a year ago. The present owner then bought it and got it serviced locally. It has not had major parts replaced. However the cambelt was changed at 105k. I have managed to get the price down to 2,700. The idea of saving me half of what I pay now in petrol is what is appealing, plus the tax is so low compared to around 175 which I pay at present. I don't do high mileage, its mostly motorway which I use cruise at 70, so the car will not be thrashed - not by me anyway!
  15. Yes, it probably is as I doubt there are many high mileage like that one.
  16. Yes, that's right. An exclusive with FSH.
  17. Hi, I am new to the forum, in fact new to C3's. I am thinking of purchasing a C3 but it has very high mileage. It is an 03 plate 1.4HDi which has covered 135k. The high mileage is putting me off as I may have to fork out for major parts soon. I know modern diesel engines are better nowadays, but I do not know what the expected life span of a 1.4 diesel engine is. Can anyone give any advice please?
