  1. I drive a diesel C5, registration is 2002, manual, HDi 110. Driving down the motorway recently it was as though the car 'coughed'. Without any loss of power it gave a small shudder and a cloud of black smoke shot out of the back, I'm assuming from the exhaust. I continued my journey home. The car sat outside the house for a week, next time I started it gave out another black could of smoke. Although the clouds of smoke have now ceased and there appears to be no issues with the engine or the power, there is a distinct 'burning' smell from the back of the car that is noticed when shutting off the engine after use and getting out of the car. Any suggestions as to what this may be. Is this a simple case of a filter needing replacing or cleaning?
  2. Thanks. I'll have a go this weekend.
  3. Thanks for your reply. I'm totally none-technical so please can you tell me what the headlining is? Cheers!
  4. I have a problem with water leaking into my car at the base of the ariel, where the black moulded plastic bit sits on the roof. The water then collects in the transparent light shade of the courtesy light above the rear seats. If I bought some clear silicone sealant from a DIY store would this fix the problem? Would some a product like this affect the plastic or paint work? Does anyone else have any suggestions to fix this problem? C5 HDi 110 manual LX 2002
  5. The mechanic thought it was the steering bearings, but I will take it in today for a full diagnostic. Any ideas what's involved fixing the steering bearings.
  6. Thanks for both of your suggestions as to what the problem could be. My local car mechanics are coming to have a look at it today, so I will let you know what they say.
  7. Hi, I was driving my C5 (52 reg, 2.0 HDi, 110bhp diesel, manual) and heard unusual, engine noise. I slowed from 65mph and pulled up. I could now hear the noise was very loud and sounded like a grinding coming from the engine. Also the power-steering was no longer working. I had a look under the bonnet and the visible belts were intact and in place. I had to be towed home. If I turn on the engine, the noise is still present and continuous.
  8. Hi, I know this isn't a C5 problem as such, but I'm having problems with my radio in my C5 (HDi 2.0 52 reg) and thought there may be someone here who could help me or point me in the right direction. I turn the engine on, put the radio on - the reception and sound is perfect. I drive for approx 3 minutes and the sound starts to fade until it is so faint I have to listen on full volume to hear anything. If I then switch over to CD (once I've turned the volume down!) the volume is normal and does not fade. Thanks in anticipation of your replies.
  9. Thanks for your reply. I've noticed that the noise sometimes starts when I break at high speed. The most recent work I had done was the outer CV Gaitor was replaced (hope that means something to you). After my 50k service Citroen suggested my alternator belt was starting to break up. I took it to another garage and they said it looked OK.
  10. Hi, Thanks for your reply. I think it sounds like a screech. It has happened twice on ignition and I have got out of the car, it appears to be coming from the engine bay. The one time I got back into my car, put it into reverse to get out of my parking spot and it immediately went off. Don't know if that was a coincidence.
  11. I have a C5, diesel, 110bhp, 2.0 hatch. 52 reg (2003). 55k I have recently noticed that it has started to make a screeching sound. This happens after I have been driving for about 30 minutes, at speed (60-70mph), usually up the motorway. The sound is then intermitment and goes when I reduce my speed. It is not present when I park up. Any ideas what this may be please?
