The spec for C4s in Spain is somewhat different from the UK - there's no 4 door Sedan in the UK for example. The EGS gearbox is more readily available than the conventional auto, and the 135hp diesel has been dropped from the range. I have a 1.6HDi 110 manual, and the engine is terrific. Make sure you change the oil every 20K km and it'll be fine. PSA DV6 Engine: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_DLD_engine#DLD-416

The lazy way is sit there with your foot on the brake, with the 'box in Drive, ensuring the car doesn't creep forward. And yes, the brake lights will be on. The preferred way is pull on the hand brake and push the lever to "N". There's no clutch to worry about, and moving between N and D every few seconds is nothing to worry about, though with some cars moving into D can cause the car to move forward, sometimes with a bit of a jerk - but modern boxes are generally very good.

Post your question on www.C4Owners.org - there's hundreds of owners with EGS who'll explain the system. AFAIK, the latest software update cures any gearchange worries.

It's hard to give a definitive answer, and identifying the fault or faulty component can take ages. I had a similar fault on my last car, which was traced to a faulty relay or switch in a rear passenger door. 8 hours to find; 15 minutes to fix. Have posted your problem on http://c4owners.org ?

12K miles does sound early to be replacing brake discs. something's gone adrift. I'd need to see and measure them to make a judgement. I've just had my 80K Km/50K miles service, and the Citroën dealer said I should get my discs replaced within the next few thousands miles. So there's a nice DIY job looming up before it gets too cold and dark. I've been quoted around £45 for pads and £80 for the discs.

Check on www.c4owners.org where several guys have done this. You can also get advice about buying and fitting new wheels. You'll know that your new wheels will have to have the correct offset and so on to clear the brakes, and your speedo may under/over read by a fraction, but you may also need an adaptor plate to ensure the wheel sits absolutely concentrically - otherwise you'll have horrendous vibration.

What are you wanting - the bulb? The whole unit (lens, reflector, connections)? Additional fittings? Which side? Is it for a VTR+? http://www.citroenparts.co.uk/Citroen-Part...dex.html?page=2

Hi, Lin, It's tricky to diagnose remotely - the wipers are quite complex with all the electronics and sensors controlling the motor. I take it they don't work at all - they don't complete a few sweeps with the washer? In which case, it could be a component failure, e.g the switch/stalk or motor, or some connection's come loose. If it's an intermittant fault, it could take ages to trace. (I did never did fix the rear wiper on our supposedly reliable F**d F*c*s despite changing the motor, relay (a real pig of a job) and boot door contacts, but it worked the day we sold it!) If it's a control system failure, sometimes re-starting the after an hour or so can effectively re-boot the electronics, and probably not leave an error message in the car's log. Forcing the wiper arms across the screen is not a good idea as you could damge the linkage or the drive train in the motor. If the car's less than three years old (55 plate or newer), I'd say it'll be fixed under warranty. If it's 05 or older, a decent autoelectrican may be a better bet.

The microswitch in the handle has probably failed, which is not unknown. There is no mechanical inkage. It should be sorted under warranty without question if your car is less than 3 years old. More here: http://www.c4owners.org/plugins/faq/faq.php?0.cat.5.31

It's a small radiator fed with hot water from the car's cooling system. Air blows through it to heat the interior of the car. Leaks are not unknown, but they usually occur in older cars as a result of deterioration. Sometimes it's just a matter of tightening a joint, which is solely about access, but sometimes a component springs a leak. The major cost of the repair is time, as it can be a long job to access the faulty part, remove and replace it and pressure test the new system. I would have expected your coolant level to be low - did you check it, say weekly?

A faulty switch on the clutch is quite common. Considering how complicated the system is, with switches, sensors, displays and controls all over the place, it's very reliable and accurate, and I've never heard of an incident where it didn't fail safe. One of the more general problems with today's systems is that the smallest of faults produces warnings which seem dire if not fatal.

C4 Basic Stereo Upgrade
BigJohnD replied to amjl2000's topic in I.C.E (In Car Entertainment) Discussion
For full iPod connection (sound, track/playlist details, remote control and charging) with the standard C4 RD4 head unit, fit the Citroën USB/iPod Box 9702.EZ. This device also has USB port which will accept and play MP3s, and it's a variation of the Denison Gateway 300. It uses the unit's CD Changer interface and costs about £100, plus fitting (which can be DIY) and activation by the dealer (mine was done free during a service). Some dealers want over £200 to suppply, fit and activate - that's just daylight robbery. It works well, and the sound is very good, though there are a few limitations - the display has only two digits and more than 99 tracks or playlists can cause problems, though it looks like the latest software update has partially resolved this. Track and artist details are not constantly displayed via RDS (pity, really) but viewed by pressing Pre-set 2. Pre-set 1 brings up the playlists/tracks from which selections are made using the cursor keys on the right of the radio fascia, some of which are replicated in the controls on the upper right of the steering wheel boss. (The USB/iPod Box is shown as CD4 of the CD Changer). Sometimes the display needs refreshing by cycling through MODE, but that doesn't affect the sound or continuity of play. As the USB/iPod Box uses the CD Changer interface, it's not possible to have both simultaneously - it's one or the other. However Denison may have an adaptor on the drawing board. The head unit's CD player is not affected. There's pages of info and discussion about the merits of the 9702.EZ, fitting it, dealer activation, cost and its operation at Http://C4Owners.org - you'll need to register if you haven't already The 9706.AG Cable is no more than an additional sound input (AUX1) providing a jack and phono input. The maximum output from an IPod headset socket is just enough, and requires the RD4 to run at almost full volume. Clearly there's no charging of the iPod, no display and selecting a track or playlist has to be done from the iPod. The AUX1 facility also has to be enabled by the dealer. If you're an iPod user, get the Citroën USB/iPod Box 9702.EZ -
Pads warping? That's not possible. Juddering could well be a sign of the discs out of true, and coupled with a binding pad (jammed piston/calliper) would be consistent with what you describe. Some light rusting after damp weather is nothing to worry about.

Which model of C4 do you have, and do you have Halogen or Xenon headlamps?
