C5 2.2Hdi Knocking Front O/s Suspension On Hard Turn & Bump!
grimble replied to grimble's topic in Problems and Fixes - C5
Hi Paul, Just had the rear tyres replaced and the fitter balanced and realigned the wheel as he said it was 2% out. Hopefully this will resolve this issue of wear although I was wondering if it had a connection through the suspension connection to the front knocking. The mechanic looked at the drop links and said it was fine, although I did read that the system should be depresurised first! He went on to say that it may be some bearings to do with the suspension although said he did not know much about the hydromatic setup, but was not concerned. So on conclusion, I think it's a case of see what happens and keep an eye on things. The car performs great and the blocked fuel filter warning (anti-pollution) has disappeared for a while since putting in decent diesel! I'm sure the suspension will have to be tackled within year, perhaps, but everything does what it's supposed to. Thanks to you guys and other forums for easing the anxiety, I'll take you all out for a currry! Cheers. -
I've been spending the afternoon reading/researching a variety of things written about a problem that's beginning to show. My latest issue with my treasured C5 is that when you turn a hard right corner or go over a bump a knocking sound comes from the front O/S suspension. Also the C5 estate sags at the rear every night and has uneven wear on the 2 rear tyres which I'm getting replaced this week. This forum below (of which I'm not a member) talks about that same issue I have although it was never sorted, the guy part exchanged his car in the end. http://www.frenchcarforum.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=35973 Question is how can I fix this, and how long can I go without it needing attention? * Replace link rods? * Get spheres replaced? * Get pump replaced? Has anyone else had any experience of this issue, and possibly managed to get a solution? Thanks guys, can't afford to replace my C5, plus it's so great for me and the family! Regards, Graham (South Wales)

Clean Diesel Filter - Clean Or Remove?
grimble replied to grimble's topic in Problems and Fixes - C5
Thanks guys, a lot to think about. Strange as it stopped showing the warning for about a month and then came back. Went for a long trip the other day, around 200 miles and it came on when I accelerated hard. Has not been back since! So, get Christmas out of the way then I'll have to start saving and looking into it. I think I might try removing it myself first and giving it a jet wash and go from there. That's if I can get the bolts undone! LOL, WOLSLEY HOUSE MOTORS could not be further away from me as I'm in South West Wales! I've heard there's a place in Bristol that could help although it's still a couple of hours away, but do-able. The C5 has only just gone over 70000 miles, and it's the first time the rear opening tailgate window has not wanted to open, hey ho! Cheers, Graham. -
Clean Diesel Filter - Clean Or Remove?
grimble replied to grimble's topic in Problems and Fixes - C5
Would be fab if it was just a fuel filter rather than the PAT filter, I'll check that out when I'm off tommorow. Seems when I do a search on Clean Diesel Filter it tends to refer to the PAT system! I've seen a few videos on washing the PAT filter and it's an option, just wondered what kind of price I would be expecting for it to be done professionally as life is crazy busy at the moment. Also now I'm reading that the C5 is not that suited for short journeys, dropping kids off to school and in and out of work. Although I do some big journeys and hoping to pull a caravan next summer! I'm hoping this C5 will last a few years! Thanks, Graham -
Hello again! It has come, after owning my 2002 2.2HDI C5 for 2 months it has reached 70k miles and the 'Clean Diesel Filter' message is now starting to appear. Crikes, that means money (on the card) before Xmas!! I know it's pretty much full of Pat fluid but my question is whether I should just remove the system or get the filter cleaned? Would it be better for the car if I just had it cleaned and what kind of prices should I be looking at by anyones experience? I'm in Swansea but I believe there is a place in Bristol which can do this reasonably, although how long could I hold out before it starts causing some sort of dammage!! Any thoughts and suggestions would be greatly recieved. Thanks, Graham.

Help! Diesel Additive Coming Out When Registering Minimum!
grimble replied to grimble's topic in Problems and Fixes - C5
After considering the options I think the best thing to do at the moment, is nothing! Perhaps after Christmas I'll look into Citroen resetting the fault although they want £75. What a great Citroen, I loved my Xantia & XM but I'm so fortunate to have this C5 with less than 70k miles on the clock. Plus it's been serviced by Citroen it's whole life. Next thing to do is to save for classic! (one day maybe) Thanks to everyone for their input, you guys are fab! -
Help! Diesel Additive Coming Out When Registering Minimum!
grimble replied to grimble's topic in Problems and Fixes - C5
Well just recieved some documents in the post about the Eolys servicing, seems like they put 1L in and failed to reset counter due to: 'Open Circuit Fault' "New sensor required : £181.37 for tank" plus labour. Also included is a sheet by Bosch with details of the equipment they used to reset? 'ESI [tronic] Version 6.3.696 (16/01/13) This came up with "Error memory could not be deleted" on '21 Signal: additive minimum level' Interesting information although does not solve anything apart from knowing that the car has some of the fluid in it! Can anyone enlighten me to anything of the above? Would this Lexia soft do a better job? Thanks, Graham -
Help! Diesel Additive Coming Out When Registering Minimum!

He didn't have it for long as too big for his wife, that's as much as I know! £14 is next to nothing, I guess he bought it like myself without noticing the warning and like me he had no idea what it meant! -
Help! Diesel Additive Coming Out When Registering Minimum!
grimble replied to grimble's topic in Problems and Fixes - C5
Well after quite in-depth conversation with the previous owner I'm now enlightened to what is going on! Seems as though he took the car to a garage with the fault which the garage then tried to put the fluid in. They apparently could only fit in £14 worth in and then tried to reset the fault. After investigation it seems there's a fault with the sensor in the tank and they would have to replace the tank. Due to the cost of this he decided not to do so, this was earlier this year and had live with the fault signal since. He apologised for not mentioning it as he was not around during the sell, only his wife and is not sending me documents from the garage who did the work for him earlier in the year. So my options: 1) Get the tank replaced with a new sensor 2) Ignor the fault warning and live with it knowing the Eolys is full 3) Try again to reset the fault with another garage who can do it 4) or by buying a cheap device from China! Any ideas? Thanks, Graham -

Well after you mentioning about the previous owner I decided to TXT him. He recently replied and said 'Don't worry about the fluid, it's full' !!! and also that he'll contact me later. Maybe he hasn't been able to have it reset, ran out of money like what you guys mentioned. Maybe there's a sensor issue? Blooming hell, wish I knew that before. I've not 4.5l of Patfluid waiting for collection and 1l of DPX42 that I could probably resell. At least I now can relax a little after stressing most of the week about! Who knows, he might of even had the filter cleaned :-) To be continued... -
Help! Diesel Additive Coming Out When Registering Minimum!
grimble replied to grimble's topic in Problems and Fixes - C5
That's what I'm thinking! I'm going to try again tomorrow and perhaps not remove the breather cap. See how much go's in and if it backs up then it must be full. Going to look into purchasing one of these ECU devices from China to see if I can reset it. Thanks. -
Arghh! Bought a beautiful C5 estate last week and has been saying 'Diesel additive minimum'. So I did a lot of research and went to Citroen to buy 1l kit after sending back some Patfluid. Just bought it home and popped out the pipe for filling the car, DPX42 started running out! So I raised the pipe up to keep it back thinking there must be little remaining, so I decided to open the 'breather cap' to put the larger pipe on to connect it to the empty bottle. That started spewing DPX42 as well!! What's going on! arghh I got it on my arm, quickly running to the sink to wash it off. (have plastic gloves on) Anyway, I put it back together and decided I needed some heads-up. Is it full of the stuff, who knows!! Can anyone help? Thanks, Graham

Hello! Long Time Citroen Fanatic With C5 Issues & Pregnant Wif

Wow, had to send back 4.5L of Patfluid. Did some research and it's not compatible with the existing DPX42 already in the car, you can't mix 'em. Anyway, ordered just 1l from local Citroen garage with kit and then I'll put another litre or 3 later on after looking for the cheapest way to reset the ECU. -
Is there anyway I can connect an auxiliary MP3 device into the back of my standard CD player in my 2002 C5? I've tried transmitting devices before although the quality is poor. I would like to continue to use the steering stork controls without having to replace my system! Thanks, Graham

Thanks for that. I've ordered a kit to replace the diesel additive and it should arrive tomorrow, So I'll give that a go! I'll then try and find someone who can reset the ecu counter so the warning is not displayed, perhaps there's a cheap device on ebay that can do it? I've also ordered a resistor pack from Hong Kong for £22, hopefully that should work when it arrives. I can't think about the PAT filter at the moment, too much already after buying the car! Hopefully the warning wont come up until next year sometime and then find the best way to deal with it with the funds I have. Jetwashing maybe a good option as there are plenty of videos on youtube of that although some say it only lasts for so long! Perhaps I'll try some high-rev action on the M4 to give it a clean!! All excited about the car as it's sooo nice to drive but not as nimble as the Xantia, but it's more stable in corners than the XM estate I had! Planning to take some sexy B&W C5 pictures on the Brecon Beacons near me soon lol!!
