Bought the above new in September 2011. Had previously a C3 1.6 TDI. Foolishly I expected it the 1.4 to have the same 'zippiness' as the 1.6TDI with it being petrol but it can't compare but I'm confused as why. Both are about the same time for 0-60mph but overtaking in the 1.4 can be a bit hairy to say the least. Is it the different gearing/torque (which I don't really understand) 1st gear seems very 'short' in that it seems designed almost purely for hill starts in that it only seems suitable for 0-5mph, though to start from 2nd requires a fair amount of revving of the engine. When I change up to 2nd and then 3rd it doesn't have the acceleration of the 1.6TDI and at times it struggles when overtaking in 4th and often on slight inclines I have to change down to 3rd just to maintain 40mph. Can anyone explain in laymen's terms what is happening and is it right that it should be such a poor performer ? Cheers.

My local Sheffield Citroen dealer doesn't seem to have any really good deals for buying a new car (probably another C3)rather than renting one ! Has anyone got any details of other dealers offering good deals ? I'm thinking straight trade in of my 58 plate C3 1.6 HD, cash balance for the new car, 1.4 C3 with no extras.

I've damaged the lower portion of the tailgate. Is it possible to just replace this part if it can't be repaired ? What could I expect a Citroen garage to charge ? Cheers.

Thanks for that. Eventually diagnosed as air con needed servicing and the piston 'controls' were malfunctioning. £280 later everything fine !

My son bought a 1.4 petrol C3 after driving my 1.6hdi and is now having problems with his. There is a slight judder when accelerating and at the same he noticed this the warning light for the air con came on. This light doesn't stay on all the time though. Could there be a connection, is this (the juddering) a sign that the air con needs servicing ?

My computer as far as I'm concerned is wildly optimistic. Nearly 10mpg higher than I'm achieveing and recording manually.

For the first few miles from cold the engine seems to want to go faster than I do when in second gear. I'm assuming this is the choke before it cuts out. I realise that a little of this will happen when cold but it feesl a bit over the top and seems to be affecting the mpg. Is there any way of me being able to measure whether the choke is on too long ?

I'm not convinced how accurate the computer readings are anyway ! See Long Term Road Test C3.

I'll give both a manually worked out mpg figure and include what the computer says on my long term test.

Thanks for the mpg answer. I eventually realised about the headlight dip after turning off the engine but the lights only stay on for about 20 seconds and I'd like that to be increased a little. Is there anyway to do this ?

Owned the car for 20 hours and here are my first queries/problems ! The display for constant mpg read out not only gives me 42.5, 62.3, 72.4 etc but random three figures without the decimal point such as 999, 140, 723 etc. Am I missing something here or is this wrong and how do I sort it ? When I went into the menu - vehicle config - deactivate rear wiper that was OK but it doesn't give me any more options to configure e.g. the lights staying on for a short period after ignition is switched off. Is this a fault I need the dealer to sort or am I missing something when pressing all the a, b and c buttons ? Cheers.

When will be the first service for my 58 C3 hdi ? Is it down to how I drive it or is there a definite mileage it will need servicing at ?

Not much advice I'm afraid but when I ordered a C3, because I wanted the sunroof, they said the delivery would be mid September which was acceptable. I wanted the white paint job but was then rung to say they no longer do it so had to choose another (more e xpensive) colour. If I'd wanted a basic car in red there would have been no problem. This was in Sheffield so don't know why they said that to you.

I'm getting the C3 1.6hdi Rhythym, does this car have rain activated wipers ? As far as I can see it doesn't but a review I read said it does. Now I'm confused !

The interafec they sell loks like the business. Have contacted them about compatibility but will have to wait until mid September when I get my car to confirm absolutely. Thanks for your help.

Thanks for that, would be interested in hearing how you get on in the next few weeks. Don't think I'll bother with iPod connections, will use my iTrip transmitter, not perfect but better than having to fit cables.

I get my 1.6hdi Rhythm in September. How is you wife finding the car ? MPG ? Have you fitted an mp3 player or some way to connect an iPod ? Any niggles with the car ?

Yep, it's an mp3 compatible cd player !

Just checked the website and you are correct, it plays mp3 compatible cd's. Will double check the broochure when I get home as I thought it had said mp3 player. If not it's down to your iPod box solution ! Looking at your photos, what is the cable that appears to be running from the unit into the glove compartment ?
