So, months later, I still have the same problem The car has lost its power I haven't used any chemicals as I was advised not to do it. After all, it's a brand new car and it shouldn't be suffering from anything like this.. Does anyone have any idea what the problem could be? I have also noticed that the fuel consumption has increased dramatically.. I took it to the dealer who did all the computer tests and apparently all seems to be working fine, but it's not. I can feel the difference I thought it was the spark plugs. They checked them too and they said that even though I should replace them after 45,000 km they looked alright I am having them replaced tomorrow (they didn't have any in stock) and we will see. This is really annoying. I just got back from another 3,500 km trip and this car is not behaving the way it should be and the way it behaved before this problem started.. anyway, thanks for listening :(

thanks mate, I will look it up, in the meantime I will try without any chemicals @Welshguy: yes, long live the A3 ! (Cologne-Frankfurt-Nurnberg etc...) :)

well guys, I've made 4000 km in the last 3 weeks...and I pushed it real hard, driving more than 200 km/h in Germany for 10 minutes, then going down to 180-190, and then again to 200 etc...this didn't solve the problem Mind you, I didn't try going all the way up in lower gears, but I will try that next week when I'll be driving in Germany again thanks for the advice!

I can't tell the exact figures (especially not in miles:)) but my VTS is everything but economical. I have stopped following the consumption long ago because it is frustrating But nothing beats speeds of 180-200 km/h, even if it consumes 18 liters/100 km :)

Hey, guys, it's been a while, in the meantime I enjoyed German highways a lot :) I have a question for you all..I drive my car mostly in the city (VTS, 2.0, 180hp) and I have noticed that the car has gotten "lazy". When I step on a gas pedal for instance after stopping at a red light, it doesn't seem to respond well and it is not as "explosive" as it used to be, it sort of "coughs" like an old car Could the city use be the reason for this and what can I do to solve this problem? Restart the ECU? I just want it to be as responsive as it was when it was new.. thanks in advance for your help!

Can't get no satisfaction? Posted by Bill Thomas at 11:30AM on Wednesday 07 February, 2007 4 Comments There are quite a few car reliability/satisfaction surveys floating around at the moment, including Top Gear's own, which is obviously the best - you'll read about that soon enough - but for now I'd like to direct your attention to the Warranty Direct reliability league. Some 450,000 vehicles, all between three and nine years old, from 33 manufacturers, were surveyed across the US and UK. The results are based on the number of failures reported during a given one-year period for every 100 Warranty Direct policies sold. The results (see table below) make interesting reading. Mazda won with only 8.04% breakdowns, which is hardly surprising - their cars are superbly built. Kia makes it into fifth, after Honda, Toyota and Mitsubishi. There's a fair jump from Honda to Toyota, incidentally, which score 8.90% and 15.78% respectively. Is Toyota slipping? Mini and Citroen scrape into the top 10, the only European manufacturers to do so, in 9th and 10th respectively. The manufacturers I'd like to make special reference to are Ford, Volkswagen, Audi and Land Rover. First, Ford. It ranks 14th out of 33, so a smidge better than middling, with a score of 26.76%. Surely, Ford can learn something from Mazda, a company it has a controlling stake in? The 4% grouping between 10th (Citroen, 25.98%)) and Mercedes (20th, 29.90%) is fairly tight, and of the big non-Asian manufacturers, Ford is the leader, but it really needs to get up into the top 10 to get things moving again and write off that multi-billion dollar debt. Preferably closer to 15% than 20%. The cars are well made, so it's not out of the question. However, not only did Ford top Mercedes by six places, it also destroyed Volkswagen, which could only manage 23rd with a whopping 31.44% breakdowns. Can we please dispel the myth, once and for all, that VW makes reliable cars? Judging by the results posted here, VWs are relatively dodgy. Like BMWs, in fact, which only score 18th at 28.64%. And look at desperate, flailing Audi, languishing sixth from the bottom at 27th and a huge 36.74%. Solidly built or trading on brand image? The latter, judging by this. Avoid, avoid! Last and least, poor dear old Land Rover, second from the bottom. Shocking. Nothing good can be said about this 44.21%, given the sheer size and scope of the survey, other than the fact that they beat arch-rivals, Jeep. If you own a Jeep between three and nine years old, remember this blog when you're standing on the hard shoulder sometime in the next 18 months. The message is clear, new car buyers - if you want proper reliability, go for a Mazda or a Honda and forget the rest. Table to illustrate the reliability ratings of 450,000 vehicles by manufacturer. Position Manufacturer Incidence rate (%) 1 Mazda 8.04% 2 Honda 8.90% 3 Toyota 15.78% 4 Mitsubishi 17.04% 5 Kia 17.39% 6 Subaru 18.46% 7 Nissan 18.86% 8 Lexus 20.05% 9 Mini 21.90% 10 Citroen 25.98% 11 Daewoo 26.30% 12 Hyundai 26.30% 13 Peugeot 26.59% 14 Ford 26.76% 15 Suzuki 27.20% 16 Porsche 27.48% 17 Fiat 28.49% 18 BMW 28.64% 19 Vauxhall 28.77% 20 Mercedes 29.90% 21 Rover 30.12% 22 Volvo 31.28% 23 Volkswagen 31.44% 24 Jaguar 32.05% 25 Skoda 32.12% 26 Chrysler 34.90% 27 Audi 36.74% 28 Seat 36.87% 29 Renault 36.87% 30 Alfa Romeo 39.13% 31 Saab 41.59% 32 Land Rover 44.21% 33 Jeep 46.36% Source: Warranty Direct Permalink: http://www.topgear.com/blogs/planettopgear...-cant-get-no-...

A friend of mine has a new Civic and I must say I really like that car It doesn' seem to have so many issues Now, this was my first purchase of a new car, and the reason I bought a new car was that I didn't want to worry about anything as I don't really know much about cars. You guys seem to be more knowledgeable... Can you tell me if other manufacturers have similar issues? Say I bought a BMW1 (which I don't like so much), or a Peugoet, or a VW...Would they all suffer from some minor issues like our C4s do? Is this a common problem today, when manufacturers rush their models and don't take the time needed to make a car reliable. Is it the use of cheap materials? Is it done intentionally, so they can sell you new parts and a new car in 5 years? Or a combination of everything? What are your thoughts on this? edit: Stuey, what the hell happened to your car? :D Who smashed it?

Yes, I forgot to mention in the original post that I had to replace the windshield after 2 months because it cracked...It cost me 'only' 150 eur though. The guy tried to patch it as it was only a small crack, but then it broke down completely and they had to put a new one. In cases like this you have to pay 30% of the cost (or something like that) yourself...I think they told me it would have cost me around 500EUR had I not been insured

so I should consider myself lucky
-
So you guys don't have glass roofs? I thought all VTS models did?
-
Yes it was, the catalogue says maximum speed 227 km/h I pushed it up to 225, and I can say that the car performs great! Of course, I didn't maintain this speed for too long, but my average was around 200 I don't do stupid things, I never drive fast in the city. But this was different, it was in Germany on a beautiful day and the traffic wasn't heavy.

that's for the Dutch market, to put joints and Heinekens in it :) But looking at your car I think I should have waited and bought the red one thanks for the welcome!!!

I can't find the media section. Am I thick or something? Anyway, 'ere it is... ;) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I5gA-ioGkT8

How fast have you driven your C4? I drove 225km/h in Germany (of course) from Frankfurt to Cologne...A3
-
thanks..it's good to know I am not the only one. I thought I bought a bad apple, but it seems that the production of this car was a bit rushed and that some of the problems can be found in every C4 made so far. Anyone with other problems I might have failed to mention? I would like to know so I can fix it while it's still under warranty... thanks mate! I will upload a small video of my car this evening.. that is, if anyone is interested...just as part of the introduction :(

Hi all, I am new around I am from Holland and I have a couple of questions for the fellow Citroen lovers In May 2005 I purchased a brand new C4 coupe, VTS, 2.0 engine, 180 HP, and while I am more than happy with the looks of the car and its interior, I do have a problem with Citroen's quality control Here's what I have noticed: 1. brakes squeals or noise or whatever the word is. They fixed it 6 months ago, but it has come back again 2. rain sensors stopped working, they had to be replaced 3. the same with light sensors 4. rattling of the windows against the doors, this is driving me mad it feels more like driving a CV and not a C4 5. door handles not returning to their normal positions, they get stuck 6. airco was broken after 2 days etc., I can't remember the other things.. Anyone else with the same experience? I mean, this is not a cheap car. I feel stupid. I should have bought a BMW or something... thanks!
