  1. I have a 1998 1.8 lx petrol xantia. Its developed an occasional problem where it will suddenly lose power and sometimes just stalls. Its mainly on the motorway where it will be going along nicely and all of a sudden the revs drop to next to nothing and it lurches as it repeatedly regains power before losing it again. Other times, when i pull up at a junction or go round a corner it will just stall. I've been told by a mate to try cleaning out the throttle housing as it might be full of cack, just wondered if im on the right track here or if anyone else has any ideas. The car has had a new battery and the fuel and air filters replaced. I also changed the clutch a while ago and cant remember if it was happening before that, thought maybe i could have broke a cable for a sensor or something? Any help very welcome. Thanks
  2. Well job done, cheers for the advice. I think i just got lucky enough to have purchased the worlds strechiest gaiter.
  3. I've probably made a mess of trying to describe it. The track rod end, one end is attached to the wheel and the other end connects to the steering rack. That end has a balljoint which has a boot on it. Just wondered if there was a way to get that off without damaging it as it seems like a pretty tight fit
  4. no i meant the end that joins with the steering rack itself. It has a rubber cover over the balljoint there in the same area the ram joins onto the steering rack.
  5. Cheers for that, also whats the best way to get the track rod inner cover off. I thought it was just a case of levering it off with a screwdriver but i dont want to damage it.
  6. Have had a go at this but i've only managed to get the track rod end seperated from the wheel hub and the ram disconected from the rack. However there is a stud that secures the ram to the rack that doesnt appear to be removable which prevents me from getting the new gaiter on. Is there any way to remove the entire track rod from the steering rack because i think i might be able to pull the gaiter over the stud and the rack then. The offside gaiter looks pretty simple but the nearside is a pain.
  7. cheers very much.
  8. My xantia has just failed its mot on a split steering rack gaiter and a couple of other things, just wondering has anyone changed one of these before? I'm going to do it myself and just wanted to know if there was anything i need to look out for when i'm doing it. It looks easy enough but I've been fooled many times before.
  9. Well i had a really good look but still cant find it. I think it must be very well hidden. I know there must be one somewhere.
  10. Hi, does anyone know how to disable the passenger airbag in a 1998 xantia, 1.8 16v petrol. I've looked but cant see anything obvious, i just need to know so i can put a child seat in the front. Cheers, Martin.
  11. Thats fantastic, maybe i wont risk my usual cowboy style of workmanship. Cheers :(
  12. I'll probably give tha a go to be honest. paying that much for a tool for one job doesn't really appeal to me. Thanks for your help.
  13. I recently changed the clutch on my xantia and by doing so i noticed the suspension lower ball joints were in a terrible state. Apparently I need a special Citroen too 7103-7 to remove them and shouldn't try to use any improvised tools. Does anyone know where I can get one of these before I let the dealer have a go at pulling my pants down? Also a rough price would be helpful.
