Faulty Cruise Control Switch - Need To Replace (i Think)
je_1972 replied to je_1972's topic in Problems and Fixes - C5
OK I got tho the bottom of this! I carefully prized the swith covers away from the stalk, underneath there is a silicone membrane in the shape of a kind of cross. At each corner and in the centre there is a tiny black molding of some description which sits inside a kind of silicone bubble, this part sits directly under neath the switch cover and the contacts on the stalk! The one under the CC switch was ruptured, the little black bit came out and was no longer suspended in the "bubble" it has to be one of the most fragile things I have ever seen! This assembly acts as the "spring" and the "contact" in one, yet it obviously could and does wear out it's just thin silicone plastic! To resolve it I swapped the membrane from the audio control stalk to the CC stalk and vice versa, as much prefer the Cruise Control function than the volume increasing function! Hope that helps. -
Both Headlamps Stopped Working Simultaneously
je_1972 replied to je_1972's topic in Problems and Fixes - C5
Thanks for that, Picasso, I had assumed it was something more serious than the bulbs, I think I will take it to Halfords, as they do a (free I think) fitting service. If I suppose that is worth a try and who knows they might nudge "something" back in to life if its not just the bulbs! I'm still reeling from the cost of two bulbs though £100??? Last time I bought a spare (for the c5) it was about £12 for the bulb, and I managed to get it in after about 3 hours of wrestling! Did they charge you a lot of labour? -
Hi, my latest fault! I was driving along happily the other evening, when as I went over a slight bump both my head lights went off simultaneously. Luckily I was about 300 metres from home so I got home and parked up. I was about to check the fuse, but according to the manual each light has a separate fuse so it can't be that. A little while ago I was having intermittent problems with my N/S headlamp and when it was in the garage (for the elloys!!) the guy said it was as a result of a faulty earth below the headlamp on the N/S, he hadn't been able to get his hand on it properly, but he said that it was working now. I can't really remember if he said that it was a as a result of what he had done or if it was coincidence. Does any body know where the "earth" is, all I can see is the headlamp and battery cover, I can't see into the engine compartment well enough to see the earth that he is talking about. As always any help is greatly appreciated

Faulty Cruise Control Switch - Need To Replace (i Think)
je_1972 replied to je_1972's topic in Problems and Fixes - C5
Thanks Coastline & Ray, I'll try these things 1st. But as the switch on the stalk feels loose & sticky I'm sure that my problem is with that part. I'll let you know how I get on. Thanks again for the feedback :-) -
Hello all, I LOVE the cruise control. Since I have had my C5 (2002 2.2 hdi sx) the cruise control "slow down" the bottom rear switch on the cruise control stalk has always been a bit sticky. When I pressed it, it would often get stuck in and the car would just carry on slowing down. It always popped back out with a little nudge so I learned to live with it. Recently the CC has completely stopped working. I'm not getting any faults or warnings, so I think it is the switch that is the problem. Does anyone know where I can get a spare? and if this is something a DIY'er could do?

Dpf Particulate Filter - Bristol/north Somerset Independants?
je_1972 replied to je_1972's topic in Problems and Fixes - C5
Another update. After feeling p'd off for about 24 hours (how long it took me to refuel and then finally have the penny drop after what I had read here in other posts) I think the fault has now gone. The day after and about 50 miles after I picked the car from the garage I filled up the fuel 50l. Drove it home, I didn't notice that the error message seemed to have gone. I came back on here hoping that someone would give me a cheaper solution to the new ecu problem. While I was here I read several otehr posts all relating to similar subjects and I read something that made the penny finally drop! After the DPF has been re-generated and elloys has been topped up and the main ecu has been cleared you need to open the fuel cap, put in at least 15l of fuel and switch on the engine(after you paid of course) this seems to then clear the error messages. I drove all day yesterday not one single "bong", bliss! -
Dpf Particulate Filter - Bristol/north Somerset Independants?

.. an update on this fault. I took it to the above garage and they replaced the sensor on the filter. I have to say that I was a little stung by the total bill as it was actually £78.24 + vat for the part and about £50 + vat for the labor. I say "about" because they did a tiny bit of work on my headlamps (loose earth) and the total labor was £56.00 giving a me a total bill of £158. This would be fine if it solved the problem. But after about 50 miles the message came back! This time with a new message of "Diesel Additive Minimum Level" in addition to the original "Unblock Diesel Filter". The problem was that I was on my way to bloody Bruges (Belgium) when I started to get the messages. I ignored them and had a stressful but uneventful journey, biting my nails every time it bonged! :-) When I got home I took the car back in. This time they refilled the eoloys fluid and regenerated the filter (£250). He also advises me that he tried, but was unable to reset the "additive ecu" on my car (2002 2.2 hdi) and that to get rid of the message, it would need to be replaced. Just another £130 + Vat + Labor! Jeez (now I have to say I trust this guy, I don't think I'm being scammed, but I do suspect that the filter sensor was a bit of a red herring but hey I was willing to try the "cheaper" option 1st to try to avoid the "big" bill, you pays your money you takes your chances) So of I have now spent £400 to get rid of a computer message (and save the planet!) and I still get nagged at by the bloody car! Does anyone know if there is a cheaper (diy) way to replace the additive ecu? Or a workaround (other than just ignoring it) I don't mind buying a scanner if needed as I plan on keeping the car for some time (despite all the hassle I actually really like the ride and practicality of the c5) -

Thanks for the reply 72dudes. I have just called a Citroen specialist from Bristol, someone I have used before, this is going to sound pathetic, because I used them once before and they were great, but for some reason (old age!) they had slipped from my memory bank. Also they are about 40 mile round trip, which is fine getting there, but once the car is dropped off, then what!?? (age old problem I s'pose). Anyway this guy is so helpful, he offered to drop me home if I took the car in late one evening, then he said all I have to worry about is getting back there the next day. The guy seemed to think that it would probably be a faulty sensor on the filter (£70), so he recommended changing that 1st and regenerating the filter while they had it in. He thought it was best to put off replacing the filter and eloys, until the message changed, to something about the environment (he told me the message, but like I say my memory's playing up at the moment!) he said wait until that message appears before we start on the expensive stuff. I like the cut of his jib! They are called "Bristol2cv" (N Collins) 16a Hampton Road, Redland, Bristol. I will post back when it's done -
Hi, I'm as sure as I can be that I've got the dreaded eloys/dpf bill looming. I have a 2002 2.2 hdi C5 SX, it has done 61,000 (I've done about 25,000 of those) it has been service by non Citroen independants since 40,000 (the same independents who now don't fancy the job!) on the whole I am very pleased with it so far. I have had an error message appear "Unblock Diesel Filter" which after extensive searching here and on google, with telephone calls to some local Citroen approved garages leads me to beleive that I need the DPF & Eloys fluid replacing. The Citroen approved guys are quoting between £400 - £600. I just can't afford that kind of dosh at the moment, so could anyone recommend any reasonable Citroen specialist in the Bristol/North Somerset area? Or is this something I could do myself? (I'm no mechanic, but I am reasonably practical)

Hi all, I bought my car when the traffic master subs was expired, it also had no aerial (the thread had corroded and the aerial had to broken off) got a new aerial and boot fitted and radio now works great, so I renewed the trafficmaster subs (£30 i think) but it doesnt do anything there is no light green or red as far as I can see, I've put in manual then auto but it never does or warns about anything does any body have a good idea if there is a common fault I should look into? Many Thanks J

I never did get round to going down the Citroen dealer. But I have found a cool website that got me a quote for a replacement electric door mirror for £45.00! the website is http://www.1stchoice.co.uk/ I think it looks good. PS I have now got the sticky door problem with the O/S Rear door grrrr. Lets hope this great car isn't going to start costing silly money to keep going!

Thanks kfk I'll try that. I'll let you know how I get on.

Hi, Recently bought a 2002 C5 2.2 hdi SX at an auction, it was cheaper than clios and astras that were older and had more miles! So I took a chance (not knowing much about these cars) and i feel got myself a bargain because the car is absolutely stonking value for money (but you all probably know that already) However I recently "clipped" the nearside mirror on a wall, at 1st I thought thats gonna cost, an arm and a leg, but when I got it home I was relieved that the housing clipped back on, it was cracked but the "workings" of the unit seemed to be in tact, the temp sensor still works, the folding action is fine and the electric adjustment still works. It only seemed to be the glass that was bust. So spoke to my local (non franchise) Citroen specialist he ordered the part, only £18.74 for the heated glass part. However when I took it to him today it would appear that the part of the unit that the glass attaches too must have been damaged and he said he was unable to clip it on. He was embarrassed as he reckons that the only repair now is to replace the whole unit with the cost of £210 +Labour +vat ! Does any body have experience of these units, does this sound possible, is there a cheaper workaround? Many thanks for any comments I get, All the best. J
