when I use my windscreen washers I get an awful smell in the car. I have tried different fluids including plain water, but the same smell still remains. Has anybody else experienced this, or any suggestions as to how to get rid of this awful smell.

I had this after using a different screenwash from my usual. I think the two somehow reacted and it smelt terrible. I had a long summer journey to go on, so I filled the reservoir up with plain tap water and used it a lot until it ran out (for some reason, the back squirter stops working before the front...) and then refilled it a couple of times at service stations. It stopped smelling after the second tank-ful.

Now I only use one sort of screenwash and I haven't had the problem again.

problem i got is the poxy strings dont retract so when i shut the boot there hanging over the rear lights this really bugs me so i just leave the shelf with out the string attached to the boot but every time i want to put something in it's like a juggling act any ideas ?

The strings start out being attached to pieces of elastic under the back ridge of the parcel shelf. After a while, those bits of elastic stop being stretchy, which leaves the strings un-retracted and hanging out of the boot when you close it (I've seen a few of those!).

I bought some cheap haberdasher's elastic from a stall on the market (or any sewing shop) and replaced the elastics. It took a little bit of measuring and experimentation but now I have retractable strings again and I don't have them flapping around out of the boot when it's closed.
