Well I got to the bottom of the brake light problem. Turned out to be a dodgy bulb. Perhaps I should have tried that first :lol:

Hi, just found this forum so here goes with my first post. I have a '52 plate Multispace 1.9d that has two problems. One is more an inconvenience, but the other would result in an MOT failure. 1. Off side rear stop light. When I place a tail/stop bulb in it's holder, all the brake lights are on permanently when the headlights are also on. If the headlights are off, the brake lights work normally but the front side lights come on when I press the brake pedal. If I take the tail/stop bulb out everything works normally so I am on the right lines in assuming it's something to do with the rear light holder? 2. CD player. The previous owner has fitted a JVC CD player which works fine except when I switch the ignition on, it does not either play the CD from the track I was listening to last (it starts from track 1 again) or automatically goes to the last radio station I was listening to. Curiously, it does retain all my preset radio stations. I know this will be something to do with the permanent live feed to the radio, but I don't know which wire is which. I would appreciate anyones thoughts on these problems. Other than this I love my blingo.
