hi, that would be great..spoke to the dealer who said that ecu shouldnt have been damaged on a gearbox change..hmm bit dubious about the workmanship so far..still if it sorts it out I will be happy to get the car back.. I've asked the garage for the ecu numbers to match. thx for your help -

I knew it would be too good to be true..apparently after two gear boxes there seems to be a problem with the car changing gears..a gearbox ecu problem. it will drive but will get stuck in gear..more cash.. -

Hi it was a cat d from flood damaged area..no other info tho water in lens and debris in the boot well points to the same. Funnily i found a local place that would do a auto gearbox fitted for 1k pick up with 6mnths warranty which may help things. Definately something related to getting hot. Ended up in limp mode on the way home yesterday Its funny as every garage I have spoken to has done the sucking through teeth thing.. I still like the car and it is pretty much solid except gearbox. I'm chewing through the idea of a new gearbox. -

It was in flood water so my guess is the breather hole on the AL4. Most ppl have said to dump the car which I'm coming round to the idea..Seems such a shame as the rest of it is quite good. Also had quotes of 1200- 2000 to change the gbox which probably moves it to the uneconomical repair bracket. A chap did say that there is a particle filter that may be getting clogged up as the oil is getting hot and therefore causing slippage. I would have thought it would be on all gears and not just 1st and R. But what do I know. Will head off to another garage and let them do a diagnostic on it edit: Looks like its going to be expensive so off goes the c5 I'm afraid..many thanks for your help..tis a shame to bin a nice car -

the oil still had traces of water not clear but yellow ..guessing about 5- 10 % water possibly. Mechanic said prob be ok for 6mnths or a few thousand miles. The car is 03 with 56k.full service history prior to water damage. I'll make a few calls to some auto places. Just really wierd that it happends when hot. I drove30miles over the weekend with no probs. Then they changed the oil a couple of times today and drove away then had problems. My conclusion is that it was car was already warm and hence the problems occurred quickly. Even problems getting the car in the drive. Just went back started ok and gears worked. -

Back from oil change number 2 and now its worse..no 1st or reverse. Dealer doesnt have a clue..mentioned something about the torque converter. Does it sound like the solenoid shifter? Tiptronic allows it to pull from 2nd ok.. Just also realised that its fine when cold..ie problem occurs about 20mins of driving. Just started the car and it engaged ok. -

It was £82 for oil and labour, hopefully less next time as I wont need two bottles as there was spare. -

Yep cleared the clutch slip fault..showed me the oil that came out and also the manual about keeping engine between 58 -68 degrees when filling. Recommend I drive for 100miles before taking it back to mix it up and drain again..thanks for your help on this..probably would've ended up with a dead c5 otherwise -

Car came back from the dealers after having the atf changed. They showed me the milky mixture that came out..recommend I do another change to flush it through so abit of a double whammy on the cost. Not even sure if the auto gearbox is gonna live. -

I thought as much..I called citroen delaer today and its 106 fluid change and 45+ vat diag.. I wish I lived near your town centre..who knows what the cost of a hydraulic solenoid at toomeys will be .:o -
Hi I'm about to book in to a gearbox specialist to check out the gearbox as its developed a fault. I actually was in the process of driving to a garage to diagnose the service fault / airbag message. The diags cam back with remote fault vehicle speed sent by abs (CAN) no signal. Not sure if this would effect the 1st gear engaging. Just revs and slight biting. But if I switch to manual and stick it to 2nd it is ok. This only happends when at moving from standstill. On D when in slow traffic it is ok. I think they was water damage at some time. Any help would be much appreciated as I'm sure the prognosis from the garage would be a new gearbox at ££££ and then some. Which I dont mind if that was the case

Engine Turns But Wont Start Poss Missing Relays
al8888 replied to al8888's topic in Technical Section
Just an update on the car...finally got he glow plugs replaced by a mobile mechanic. The car still had the same problem. Then they towed it down the road and jump started it. They said there was air in the fuel and opened a valve to bleed which sorted it out. Engine start well now just need to put it thru and MOT -

I have also found out that the ecu / immobiliser may need reprogramming to the key as the battery may have been out of the car. Was wondering if anyone had experimented with the obd connection. Local citroen want £35 to look + £29.99 to reprogram + £11 because I dont have the sliver card. thats if it is the immobiliser :D oh and +VAT for good measure. Any advice gratefully recieved -
Engine Turns But Wont Start Poss Missing Relays

Thx for the reply, There isnt a primer bulb on the left of the engine bay where it should be, just a straight tube from the fuel filter i guess. How would I check the injectors? There is half a tank of diesel -
Hi all, I have a 98 xantia that apparently had an immobiliser problem. It doesnt have a keypad and the immobiliser light comes on and goes off once the ignition is switched on. The engine turns but doesnt start. When i got it the water inthe expansion tank was non existant so filled up and also topped up the the oil. I have since tried with another battery and it turns once again with no joy. btw the glow plug light comes n and goes out. I have since checked the fuse under the dash and there is a purple relay type socket above a white long female connector. both empty and in side the engine bay there is a green round relay socket at the left side also empty. there are holes to the right for what I presume are other relays if the wiring was present. The owner guide and haynes manuls 93-98 seem to omit any details reagarding this. Is there any info on these things and is this a red herring and the car is infact a lemon? Thanks in advance al
