Skipweasel

OK - it's been slipping for three years (I drive very gently, so it's only a problem every few months when I forget and give it some stick) but now it's time to replace the clutch on my 1.9TD Xantia. So, before I start shopping around, how much have other people paid? I'm in Telford in the Wet Mudlands, by the way, though I don't mind travelling to somewhere like B'ham if it's cheaper.

Well, there won't be a signal as it's open-circuit. The cable changes from rubber-covered to just a pair of wires somewhere above the rear suspension member, as far as I can tell - I just wondered if there was something I'm missing. Can't see it going anywhere near the wheel arch and it certainly doesn't get as far as the bonnet.

From measuring at the front, the NSR ABS sensor has gone open circuit - or its connector has. But - where is it? The lead appears to vanish up behind the suspension member and comes out as something else into the wiring tray. Is it really up-tight and out-of-sight? Is there another way to get to it? Lately the ABS light has started coming on some time after driving away - it's happening more and more so clearly I need to do something about it. Apart from getting the fault codes read (which I guess involves spending money - which as a part-Scot goes against the grain) is there any way of telling which sensor is causing the trouble? Does anyone have a wiring diagram of the connections to the ABS module so I can pull the plug and waggle some wires with a meter attached? Thanks

Ah - right, it was really the delayed arming I was interested in. If I can't do that then as you say, there's not a lot of point. Thanks for the detailed answer.

My keypad isn't the same as the one in the handbook. Mine goes 1 2 3 C 4 6 7 S 7 8 9 0 but the manual shows D/N instead of S. Obviously, I've tried using the S as D/N but I can't get it to do any of the things I'd like it to - like delay arming, change code etc. Does anyone have the right handbook they could scan for me, please? Or is there some other trick I'm missing? Thanks - Guy.

At some point I need to replace the accumulator sphere on my N-reg Xantia 'cos the valve's ticking every few seconds now. Haynes shows two methods of depressurising the system, according to whether you have anti-sink or not. Now - I would expect to be able to tell easily whether my car sinks or not when the engine's off, but I can't. What it actually does it go up at the back and down at the front over several hours until I start the engine when it groans for a split second then squats down at the rear and comes up at the front. So - what's going on and is there another way to tell whether I have anti-sink? Thanks - Skipweasel.

If like me you don't like having the radio go off with the ignition, Citroen have kindly provided a simple way to fix it. The top fuse in the under-dash box is the one. The fuse shares a common centre socket with two other holes. Fitted to one side is ignition controlled, fitted the other is always on. Of course - you may have already known that, but it came as a pleasant surprise to me! Skipweasel.

N-reg Xantia SX. What's the lock under the bonnet for? I can't find any reference to it in the handbook (though there are a few pages missing) nor in the Haynes. It's up on the scuttle panel at the back - presumably it arms or disarms the alarm/immobiliser - or something. Might be a good idea to know before I go fiddle wtih it and leave myself inconvenienced by a stuffed car. Thanks - Skipweasel.

I've got a folding IR "plipper" type key that doesn't turn my ignition lock and a plain key that does. I'd like to get a new blade cut from the working key and install it in the folding key - but I can't see how to get the pivot rivet out of the folding key. My guess is that you drill it out and a new one comes with the new blade - but before I resort to brute force and ignorance (I can do both!) does anyone know how the folding key pivot is supposed to come out? Ah - good idea, though it really looks like there's a puddle on the rear bumper. I need to get into the hatch's innards anyway 'cos the boot lock's noisy and getting lazy.

It appears to be a factory produced Citroen switch - and I don't think it's the ejector seat. Anyone any idea what it does? What it doesn't do is mute the radio or stop the horn sounding. Nor does it put the engine into hushmode. Thanks - Skipweasel.

Ah, yes, aren't Ford selling this as Launch Assist on the new Mundaneo? For people who never quite got the hang of hillstarts, I presume. I checked the fluid and it is a bit low - below the minimum, anyway! I'll top it up and see what's happening. Thanks - Skipweasel.
