  1. My Drivers side front spring broke when the car was 3 years old.
  2. check also that a spring has not snapped, the steering does go stiff as the spring jamed in the top cup. you can inspect it from the wheel arch. there was a recall for this, they fitted some restaining brackets to the strutt on my car . mines a 2000 year model. Great cars.
  3. Is your mat under the accelerator pedal ? My 1.4 is good on fuel and pulls like a train (well a steam one) Great car, thinking of upgrading to a 2 litre. Regards Dave
  4. Are your brakes binding? The Lucas pads can stick in the carrier, mine needed filing down to work properly. A simple DIY job. Regards Dave
  5. I have Lucas calipers on the front (2000 1.4), they squeal, the Lucas pads do not cover the disc area properly , so I modify them a bit with the dremel, problem goes away but comes back when the pads wear again. Answer would be new pads from a different maker. Of course copper slip is used on the backs. The problem started because of brake fade, the pads were too tight in the disc caliper when new, I should have taken the file to them when I installed them in the first place.
  6. If you have the Lucas brakes, you just need a 10mm and 13mm? spanner, do not remove caliper, just undo the farthest bolt from the middle and swing up the retainer. simple as that. I used lucas pads which were too tight in the caliper when fitted. so file the edges of the metal to fit if needed. If not they will cause squeeks.
  7. The only thing I can really fault with the car/van is the gearbox, having owned mine from new, it is the same after 45000 miles, a baulky poor change, but after all it is a van type box, not a great cearbox but strong, I hope. My wife has always had problems with it, but not me, (ex white van man) Regards Dave
  8. I got a recall notice last week for my Berlingo front springs, they are going to fit some split sheilds to the lower part of the strut, shame really because my spring has already broken at the top and been fixed.
  9. 2001 model came with 2 keys as stated above.
  10. It happened to me, I think the car was reversed into over night, it would not start until I pressed the red fuel cut off button. Again the dealer quoted for recovery and fault fixing (£110=vat). They just do not want to help/advise without making money out of it.
  11. It can be caused by the wire connectors to the pre-tensioners under the seat, just get some slack, so the connecters don't pull apart-----job done... dealers were quoting £69 plus repair cost on my car, bless them
  12. Bob, If you are going to fit the dog guard to the back of the car, you will need to get 2 x tie down brackets from the main dealer. It keeps the dog in place and the guard would be safer for you in an accident. When I go to crufts, a stall holder sells off cuts of rubber back office carpets which most people buy.
  13. I have just replaced the o/s front spring, because of a noise and stiff steering, so look up from the road wheel and check that the spring is sitting centrally on its top mounting. (they sell many springs for berlingo's and are available from motor factors.) Terry thanks for showing this site on the x9 site. Hello to all Dave Weller Chatham
