  1. Ok i'll start from the beginning. I bought a Berlingo van, 56 plate 2.0 hdi,37k miles, performance good, fuel economy good on motorway about 48mpg, terrible round town 23mpg. Round town, i was religiously with each tank getting 30 miles per 8th of a tank, i'd fill up to the brim and reset the mileometer, then when i filled up again i'd keep the receipt and work out the mileage, so i know what i was doing was accurate. After reading info on this forum and the internet in general i decided to unplug my egr, i pulled the pipe of the valve and blocked the pipe and the valve, then i pulled the blue plug off the plastic valve, no difference to performance or economy. I thought a remap would cure the terrible economy, so off i went to get a remap, first though the tuner insisted on doing a diagnostic check, which showed up an egr fault, which i thought and said was because i'd disabled my egr, he plugged the egr back together and the fault was still there, he was also adamant the modern diesels do not benefit from having the egr disconnected, he then gave me a long talk on what egr's do. Anyway, he said he didn't want to do the remap and take my money until i'd sorted my egr valve, fair play to the man. So, i get a new egr valve and whilst fitting i noticed that the short rubber pipe from solenoid valve to engine had a load of insulation tape round it, so i removed the tape to find a smaller bit of tape, like it had been taped twice, the pipe had a deep cut/gouge in it and the smaller bit out tape had caved into the cut from the suction, so was blocking the flow, so me unplugging my egr did nothing because the flow was blocked anyway, so new rubber pipe was fitted. So off i go and fill up (again), reset the mileometer, the result is now i'm getting over 60 miles round town from the first 2 8th's of a tank, i couldn't beleive it, so after using a 1/4 of a tank i filled up again, sure enough about 50mpg round town, i've done this twice now before posting on here, just to make sure, and the results have been the same each time. During the 2nd tank of fuel after the new egr i also did a 10k boost, this made a difference to performance, engine smoother and quieter but no better on economy. So, i won't be taking my egr off, i rather stick a 10 boost through every 5k-10k and keep the egr valve on and the good economy.
  2. I'm just giving this thread a bump. Does anyone know how to blank the EGR, or do whatever with it ? I gather something can be done with it to improve economy and performance. Thanks, Paul.
  3. Ok, i did a mpg test. I filled up, to the brim and kept going till i couldn't get any more fuel in, i then did 87 miles, 99% on the motorway, a round trip, i then filled up to the brim at the same station, at the same pump, i'd used 8.5 litres or 1.9 gallons. 87 divided by 1.9 = 45 miles per gallon, this was on the motorway, putting my foot down (ish), mostly between 70 - 85 mph. I'll be getting a remap soon, with a quoted 25% better economy and an extra 23 bhp, i'll report back on that when it's done. Cheers for all the answers, Paul. Paul.
  4. Thanks Snoopy. Out of interest, if you can remember, how many miles do you do before the needle starts moving down from full ? I noticed mine moving down after about 16 miles, maybe i didn't fill it right to the brim. Every other vehicle i've ever owned took ages for the needle to start moving down, maybe 50 miles or so.   5. Thanks for the reply John. What does the "PSA" hdi mean ? I know what you mean about fuel gauges not moving for a while on a full tank. Regarding the fuel economy, i'm a taxi driver, i drive a london taxi, a TX1,which is 10 years old, this is a 2.7 non turbo Nissan engine, not 16 valve, not even common rail, with over 300k, still on the original engine, it weighs nearly 2 tonnes, and even this does almost 30 to the gallon round town, i can't believe that i'm gonna get the same sort of mileage from a 2 litre modern engine. My old escort van did aroung 450 miles on a full tank, mixed driving, am i wrong to think that my Berlingo is going to be worse on fuel than that ? Would a remap/decent chip, and EGR mod help ? (i'm still waiting for someone to tell me how to do the EGR mod) Thanks, Paul.

  7. I've just got myself a Berlingo 2.0 hdi van, 56 plate, my question is what should i be getting miles per gallon from it ? Or what mileage from a full tank ? The reason i ask is because i've filled up and done just over 40 miles and already the fuel gauge is almost down to 3/4 of a tank, so i'm thinking 60 miles per quarter of a tank = 240 miles per tank, surely this can't be right, that works out about 18 miles to the gallon !! The van has done just 37k, i don't drive with my foot nailed to the floor all the time, this is mostly town driving, no motorway driving. Thanks, Paul.
  8. I've just fitted a towbar myself to my Berlingo. Yes all the wires can be wired to one light, except one wire, there has to be a wire running from the other rear light, the indicator wire. On my set up i've got all my wires scotchlocked to the passenger side light except the drivers side indicator, this single wire has to be run across from the other side, or else how is the trailer indicator going to flash ?   9. Hi, i'm a newbie here. I've just bought myself a 2.0 hdi van. I've been reading about the various tune up techniques on this forum but can't seem to find a step by step description of what to do with the EGR. Do i just pull off a plug somewhere or do i have to remove and blank something off ? I'm also interested in the de-cat mod and any advice on getting a chip (one of the more expensive versions) vs remap. Also what fuel consumption can i expect, or miles per tank around town and motorway mixed driving. My van is a 56 plate with 37k. Cheers, Paul.
