  1. Hi, thanks for that. I just had to announce the good news that I have FIXED THE PROBLEM !!!!!! Whilst stumbling through the posts on central locking problems, one in particular caught my eye. It seems that Citroen had scanned the system and announced that the new radio recently fitted was incompatible with the main computer and the owner had removed it. Hey presto! Fault gone!! I tried it and the locking now works as it should. It is an easy thing to try. And I still dont believe it. Good luck, Patt.
  2. Hi, I know I am not the only one to have trouble with central locking on my C3, but any help would be appreciated. Briefly,it seems to work fine if you stop, get out and lock it. It then will unlock within about 10 minutes but not thereafter. Entering using the key in the drivers door will then enable the unlocking from the remote button. It then works fine again for a few minutes. The key's battery has been replaced and re programmed in the ignition. The car's 12v battery is not new but starts the engine first go in the frosts,so I am reluctant to replace that. Thanks.
  3. Thanks Paul. I've not met this idea before and it does dampen the usual gearbox feel and give the lever some "weight". Citroen must have thought it was what people wanted as they (and other cars in the group) have this. The Saxo did not, nor any other cars I can recall. All I can say is that it feels better without it and unless I find a compelling argument for it, I will not be re fitting it. I did hear about a broken selector fork in a C3 and in my view this weight could have contributed.
  4. Hi folks, Could anyone tell me what that iron weight on top of my gearbox is for? It is pivoted on the top surface and linked to one of the gearshift levers to provide inertia when changing gears. I've had many suggestions but would like a definitive answer, as it seems to me a bad thing. Thanks hopefully!
  5. Hi, I imagine you checked the oil level carefully after refilling it? If in doubt, the handbook will tell you how as the level varies between hot and cold and also whether the engine is running. For example, the level is much higher when the engine has been stopped for a while. It is usual to have the engine warm and idling when checking. There should be no immediate difference in running with a different oil, but stick to the recommendation.
  6. Hello all!!. My 99 Saxo 1.4 (automatic) has a baffling cooling fan problem, it never comes on at all. In spite of warnings about boiling in traffic it's never done this. It runs fine, never pinks or smells, I've replaced the rad switch 3 times and tested the socket with an ammeter which ran the fan (about 9 amps). The socket pins are good so I remain baffled. The thermostat is new too, and the heater is fine. Why am I worrying you ask? The MOT man said it boiled over for him, so I've missed something. The last switch was from a Citroen dealer and cost the earth, well £22, and still no fan. Unfortunately saxos are quite rare now so I've not heard any other fan go on. All ideas welcome, thanks.
