After a bit of phoning round I've decided to get rid of the car. I'll be putting it up for spares or repair.

Hi Car is 2002 C5 2.2HDi Exclusive Estate. Put it in for an MOT and it failed on the main headlight beam staying on. If you put it on(pull on the left stalk while the lights are on)then try to turn it off full beam remains on. It also does this when, for example, you flash someone during the day when no lights are on, the main beam still remains on. To turn them off you have to indicate right, flash the lights, stop indicating then flash again. This then turns the beam to dipped. I've not tried any other combination but I reckon there are others. It failed on the switch. On looking deeper(googling etc)the it seems likely that the com2000 unit is at fault. Yesterday and today the date has reset itself. I'm not convinced the two are related as the MOT station left the car outside with the main beam on. Of course, battery went flat and I got them to jump it. I know from the past that a dead battery on these cars has strange effects and I'm thinking that the date resetting was due to no battery life. If it is the com2000 I will get one myself and fit it or at least try. Questions are: 1) Does the new unit need reprogramming in any way or is it simply a case 'out with the old, in with the new'? 2) Could someone give me a step by step guide on removing the steering wheel and the com2000? I'll scour the forumn too for any info. I can find. 3) Given that there is an air bag in the steering wheel should I(amateur mechanic) even attempt to do it? I'm hoping I can fix this as the car is in superb condition and drives like a dream. If I can't I'll be sad to break/scrap it. Thanx, DFB.

Hi Well I took the gamble and replaced the resistor pack with a new one from ebay(http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/320615646722?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2648)and hey presto it fixed the problem. I can now demist the windscreen without carrying a towel with me. Thanx for all the tips, deBooza.

Hi Brilliant info. Done it today and was quite straight forward. Would have been even easier if I had some wheel ramps. Thanx for the excellent info. I now have it printed out and in my folder. deBooza.

Hi Car is a C5 2.2HDi manual 2002 Exclusive Estate. Yesterday attempted to do an interim service – change oil, fuel and air filters along with an oil change. Tried to get the oil filter off but couldn’t. Could get my hand to it but failed to get enough purchase to turn it. Tried to get the fuel filter off but not sure how the thing comes apart/is dismantelled. Air filter was simple but will change that when I get success with the other two. Questions are: 1) Can anyone recommend a filter wrench that will do the job? 2) Can someone give a description of how the fuel filter is changed – what pipes come off and how to access the filter inside? 3) To drain the oil from the engine I’ve always used a vacuum pump(http://www.seamarknunn.com/cgi-bin/sh000002.pl?REFPAGE=http%3a%2f%2fwww.seamarknunn.com%2facatalog%2fpumps-toilets-tanks-equipment.html&WD=pela&PN=Sump-Pumps-Oil-Changers.html%23aPL176634#aPL176634)and taken it out of the dip stick hole. It’s worked fine in the past with previous cars. Anyone know if this method is Ok with this car? Thanks in advance, deBooza

Hi Tried the battery disconnect thing and still the same situation. Perhaps I did not leave it disconnected long enough? Thought I'd try to eliminate a few things. I disconnected the fan switch, the thing by the clutch pedal. This has stopped the blower. However, the ECO light still behaves the same. On first starting the car the ECO button is responsive but 5 or so seconds later the button stays off. The direction button works fine. The fan button does nothingto the fan picture - the blades all stay off. Anyone know if that means the switch is Ok and that the problem is elsewhere? deBooza.

Hi After more browing and googling I found this thread(amongst others)on the forum. It seems like a common failing of the C5 and is very similar to my problem. Anyone know how, if at all possible, to test this fault without buying a replacement unit? http://www.citroen-owners-club.co.uk/citroen/index.php?showtopic=6990 deBooza.

Hi Thanks for the reply. If I disconnect the battery will that have any advers effects on anything else? Will it reset other things I need to know about? Reason I ask is a mechanic I spoke to briefly said whatever you do don't disconnect the battery, you'll have all sorts of problems - ignition key may fail, wipers go scatty. He intimated that it may need resetting by way of a dealer. Thanx, deBooza

Hi Car: 2002 C5, 2.2HDI Exclusive Estate 90000 miles. In short, the air conditioning is stuck on. Made a short journey to the shops on Sunday about 5 miles. When I pulled up to stop the blower started up without me pressing anything. I leave it with the Eco button pressed so that the aircon/climate control is never in use, only when I want it to be, which is may be once a year. It seems that the Eco button now does not work/respond to it being pressed. With the car running the blowers are continuously running though the fan sign shows not on at all. The auto button works. The button that controls blower direction works. When I first start the car the Eco light is on and it responds to presses for the first 5 to 8 seconds or so. After that it fails to respond and is stuck in some other mode that contiually blows. Any ideas? Thanx, deBooza

Hi I recenly bought a manual for my C5(2.2HDI Exec) on amazon, it covers both 2.0 and 2.2. It's all in French so translation is needed but it's all there. Regards the tailgate window. If it's an estate, as mine is, where the wiper is connected to the body put your fingers under the bottom part of it. You'll feel a button type lump, press it and the window opens. Noet the car has to be unlocked - obviously. deBooza.

Hi How did you get on with your car? If you are interested I can loan you my version of ECUSafe if of any use. deBooza

Hi Had it checked out with a local mechanic. It's a hose connected between radiator and overflow/fillup tank that has a hole in it. Glad it's only that and not something more serious. Quoted me £120 to supply and fit a new one. Will be getting it done this week. Thanks for all input. deBooza.

Hi On Saturday I was going to have a real good look at what it could be. Plan was to remove the radiator and pipes and see where the leak potentially was. However, I didn't get far at all, just a couple of bolts undone. It seems like the only way I can get to the lower bolts holding the radiator assembly on is to remove the from bumber and grill. How is the radiator removed? Any info. on how to remove the radiator assembly would be good or perhaps a link on the site to an existing post that shows how. I have now booked it in to be looked at as I worried it's gonna get worse very quickly and I do not want to be stranded on the motor way. deBooza.

Hi I had a better inspection tonight. Just come home from work so the engine was warmed up. Left it running and had a look round the pipes using a torch and took some pictures(see below). I couldn't see anything spurting or dripping out from anywhere. All I could see was a wet patch, localised around the bottom of the intercooler. Also ran the air conditioning/climate control and all worked Ok, got very chilly in the car. http://www.pompeytalk.co.uk/c5/Img_8109.jpg http://www.pompeytalk.co.uk/c5/Img_8119.jpg http://www.pompeytalk.co.uk/c5/Img_8122.jpg http://www.pompeytalk.co.uk/c5/Img_8127.jpg Any more help would be very welcome, deBooza.

Hi Car is a 2002 C5 2.2 HDI Exclusive Estate. A week ago I started the car and seconds later got a 'coolant level low' warning. Thought nothing of it, topped it up assuming that it was about time and needed it. It only took about a litre. Today got the message again. Not quite a litre this time so leak not that bad. Upon inspection I had a look round the engine. I noticed a lot of fluid at the bottom of the smaller rad of the two. According to the manual I have this is the turbocharger heat exchanger. I'm not 100% sure as the workshop manual I have is in french, can't find one in english, and it's a slow process using google translate  Questions are: 1) Is this the turbocharger heat exchanger? 2) Is it supplied water by the same tank as the cooling system resovoir? Reason I ask is there is both water on the road(not much though, drips)and I'm having to top up with water. 3) Is it a difficult job for the DIYer? Seems easy enough as far as access goes but I've been duped before. Thanx in advance, DFB.
