  1. Thanks very much for your answer. Just to check, do you mean allen key screws? I'm not sure what t25 is. Is it 2.5mm?
  2. Hello all My 2000 Xsara has a funny problem. Can't cancel the indicators. When I return the indicator stalk to the centre, it does not stop the indicators (right indicators keep going). I don't see how to remove the binnacle. There are 4 or more metal fasteners under the steering column that look like rivets rather than allen screws and there are 2 deep recesses with some kind of fastener in them but even using a torch I can't see what they are (bolts? Phillips screws? something that undoe with an Allen key?) Could anyone tell me how I can expose the business end of the indicator stalk, please? I've looked in Haynes manuals for ZX and Xantia and it is not covered and there are no exploded diagrams.
  3. Hi JohnDouglas You helped me out on the size of the nut that holds the drive shaft to the hub. Thanks for that. Got the driveshaft (driver's side) free of the hub. I'll have a look for the L bolts. Do you need to remove them (or just turn them 90 degrees)? When done, will the drive shaft pull out by hand or do you need to drift it out? Thanks for any help.
  4. JohnDouglas, thanks for your help! I'll start looking for one.
  5. Need to borrow a sphere removal tool that I used for my Xantia? It can make life much easier if a sphere is determined to stay where it has been for many years. If my location is convenient, email me on artandartists2@yahoo.co.uk I am happy to lend it (£15 deposit repayable on return). If you really twist my arm, I might let you buy me a drink for the favour. Chris
  6. Need to change the driveshaft and don't know the size of the nut on the end. I had to saw/chisel to break the one I last did on a ZX. Many hours of no fun at all! This time with an Xsara I'd rather get a socket that fits. Many thanks in advance if anyone knows.
  7. Just can't see how to change Xantia offside dipped beam bulb. Can't get my hand in to withdraw bulb holder. Plastic computer housing is in the way. It's probably me being dumb. Haynes manual does not cover changing headlight bulbs - only sidelight, indicator bulbs. Anyone know if I need to remove the computer housing, please? Thanks in advance for tips.
  8. Thanks again Mons and Randombloke Got a sphere release tool off the net (left my oil filter removal chain wrench in Portugal by mistake), changed the front spheres and the lack of damping problem at the front disappeared. If there's anyone in my area, Woking, Surrey who needs to get hold of a sphere release tool in a hurry, you're welcome to borrow it. I would just ask for a deposit to ensure you bring it back!
  9. Hi again. On checking the corners of the car by pushing down and releasing, - rear rises above correct level and descends to correct level (correct damping, I guess) - front is easier to push down but on release rocks 5+ times before settling. Same lack of damping both sides. I think this lack of front damping appeared suddenly after the car had not been used for some time. What puzzles me (not being familiar with the Citroen suspension system) is it seems unlikely to me that both front spheres would fail at exactly the same time to cause the same lack of damping on both sides of the car - if it is the front suspension spheres causing the problem. I have gone through the height settings several times without problems. The reservoir has the right fluid level when checked on high setting. I have measured the vertical distance between the top of the tyre and wheel arch (on normal road use height setting) and estimate the distances to be about 1cm at the rear and 4cm at the front. Do the symptoms point to a specific component problem to anyone? At the moment I intend replacing the left and right front spheres to see if that fixes the problem. Thanks for any response.
  10. Mons and Randombloke, thanks for your advice. I'm afraid I ordered new spheres which turned out to be incorrect so I ran out of time to fix it before I had to go away for several months and had to take my old AX. Bit of a squeeze compared with a Xantia estate. Time to have another go at fixing it now that I'm back.
  11. Xantia 96 estate. The suspension height changes correctly according to the setting given but the car is undriveable - it feels like the suspension does not give at all. When driving at 10mph - 15 mph on a smooth road every tiny bump is felt. When the car is parked on standard ride setting, I can hardly get the corners to move when pushing down on them. Any ideas, please? Could it be the regulator sphere? Thanks in advance for any help.
