  1. Thanks techbod - that's what I thought and what I was seeing with previous car stereo installations, but not with this one.
  2. Hi guys I've just bought a Sony CDX GT930UI to replace the factory fitted radio in my 2003 2.2 C5 HDi. So that I can retain use of the steering wheel paddles, I also bought the Connects2 DCTS001 which also allows the stereo to use the car's display. From memory, I have the two "normal" ISO connectors from the car plugged into the corresponding connectors on the Connects2 loom. I then have this loom connected to the Connects2 box. I also have the Sony connector from the Connects2 box and the 3.5mm Sony remote control connector plugged into the stereo. I also have a bus lead from the loom plugged into the stereo - but this (I believe) is superfluous as I have no CD changer, etc... Anyway, I have two little niggles: 1. When turning off the ignition, the Sony stereo doesn't give the usual "don't forget the faceplate" beep sequence straight away. If you wait long enough, there's a qhirring behind the dash as it resets itself and shuts down and then the stereo beeps as expected. Not a big problem, but if you switch the sereo "off" before turning off the ignition, it leaves the clock display on, meaning that the stereo is nicely litup and advertising itself to anyone passing if you've just nipped into the chippy or something. Is there anyway I can fix this? I haven't tried swapping the red and yellow wires on the connector yet as I've read that on some cars, shutting down the stereo is now something that is commanded by the car's ECU. 2. The stereo has an auto dimming option which currently doesn't seem to work. Does anyone know if this is a signal that the Connectg2 box will pass on? If not, which wire from from the car to I need to splice into in order to get the signal passed to the stereo? As always, Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks all! Adam
  3. Not sure what you call the front and the back, but the leak was coming from the front of the pump as I looked at it. I've found this photo on the web that shows the view I had - and the diesel was leaking out of hte top right of the four bolts on the front. http://www.bba-reman.com/images/commonrail1.jpg **EDIT: Obvously, it wasn't leaking out of the bolt, but from the bolt's seal!
  4. No, it didn't include the timing belt or water pump. I asked him about that but he said we wasn't anywhere near close to changing the timing and that would add a reasonable amount of extra work. Seeing as he was pushing this through as a bit of a favour as I wanted to get away for my Christmas break, I didn't push it with him. He said he had to take the auxiliary belt off - but not the timing belt. He also told me it took him eight hours to do the work but he only charged me for six hours. Six hours to remove the pump, dismantle it, source the part, reassemble it and refit the pump seems fairly reasonable to me - but then again, I don't know how long these things take to do - I think it was the first one he had to do as he said he's not seen one of these pumps fail before. As for which bolts, all I can tell you is that there are two that are easily visible from the front of the car and it was one of those - I don't have much knowledge to say what's what under the bonnet - sadly! End of the day, the total bill was £230 - which is a lot cheaper than if he'd just gone ahead and bought a new pump for me, in which case, the bill would have most likely ended up being closer to £600 to £700! Cheers, Adam
  5. Just to close the story: Citroen apparently claimed that you couldn't get the necessary seals and I would need to buy a new pump. The garage I use managed to locate someone who would sell the set of seals for these pumps and pushed my car through despite being fully booked. Total cost was about £230 - which I thought was pretty good as they claimed it took them eight hours to remove the pump, strip it down and refit it - but they only charged me for six hours of labour. Also cost me a tin of choccy biscuits which I gave to them as a "Happy Christmas" and "thank you" for pushing the car through when they were so busy and I was in such desperate need for it to go away for Christmas - a great bunch of guys! :) All's wll that ends well! Cheers all - have a good Christmas and New Year! Adam
  6. Located the problem - diesel is leaking out of one of the easily visible torx bolts on the fuel pump. Now, just need to wait for the RAC to turn up so I ca get the car to the garage as it won't start at all now! Cheers for all the help folks! Adam
  7. Cheers again iannez. I got the kind folk at Halfords to test the battery for me - as that was my first thought. They said it was OK, but that was, of course, after me driving to them and having charged it up a little first! Will give the garage a call tomorrow and see if I can pop over for them to just give it a quick look over - will post to let you know if that fixes the problem or not! :( Adam
  8. Hi iannez - thanks for the reply. I've recently had the car serviced, including new fuel filter. Prior to this service, I'd not had any problems - they seem to have started since the service. However, since picking the car up from the service, it had been sat dormant for a week and the really cold weather has descended so whilst I've had a niggling thought that it may be related to the service, I've also thought it could be related to the cold weather. Is it possible the problem is related to this? If so, I'll give the garage who serviced it a call tomorrow and ask them to check it out for me. Adam
  9. Hi RandomBloke, thanks for the speedy reply! I tried searching the forums earlier but got no results back - search seems to be working fine now I'm home - odd... So, with the search now working for me, I found this post on here which seems to pretty much match my problems albeit with reference to a 1.9TDi: http://www.citroen-owners-club.co.uk/citro...mp;hl=glow+plug Anyway, the preheat light on the dashboard does come on for a split second and then goes out when turning the key. I will try turning the ignition on and off a few times in the morning before I try cranking the engine. Where do I find the pre heat relay and wires? Sorry, but I have little car maintenance experience and no manual! Any help greatly appreciated, as always. Adam
  10. Hi again folks I have a 2003 Citroen C5 2.2HDi. The last week, it's been having problems starting. The engine seems to turn over quite readily, but seems reluctant to fire. If I keep the key turned, after a reasonably long period, the engine will try and start a couple of times before actually starting properly. Once started, it runs fine and I can stop the engine and start it again without any problems. Has anyone got any advice on what the problem could be? I was thinking that it's most likely a glow plug problem. If it is, where are the glow plugs located? Are they accessible? What tools would I need to change them myself? Sorry for all the questions - any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Adam
  11. Cheers for the reply techbod - had a feeling you were going to say that :s Oh well, guess I'll have to part with some cash then.
  12. Hi folks - thanks for all the replies and apologies for my delayed thanks! Anyway, the problem's been sorted now - I was unable to source a 2nd hand unit so told the garage to fit a new one (at an extortionate cost). Anyway, as it transpires, the new part wouldn't work either - they spent several hours fiddling around with it until they actually started to do some "real" investigative work and found a broken wire under the carpet in the passenger footwell. After fixing that, they removed the new device and put the "old" one back and all has been well so far (*touches wood*) - and there was no charge to me as I'd only just bought the car from them and they gave me "free" labour - for a problem they had agreed to fix before I bought the car - but had clearly failed to. Anyway, end result is me being a happy bunny as far as the airbag is concerned. However, the anti=pollution fault is irritating me a little. I'm suspecting the EGR valve as there was apparently an old fault for it in the computer. The garage was supposed to have cleaned it - I asked them to and they say they have but I'm not sure I trust them. They also said they found a broken pipe that they repaired. Anyway, the fault is still present - albeit intermittently. Can anyone tell me where the EGR valve is (from the point of view of standing infron of the car with the bonnet up) so I can have a go at cleaning/replacing it - assuming it's the sort of job that can be done at the roadside. Again, many thanks for your previous help and thanks in advance for any help you can provide with my new query. Adam
  13. I folks - I don't know if anyone can help - but I'm hope you can! I have a 2003, 03 plate Citroen C5 2.2HDi - which has just started showing an airbag fault just recently. I took it to a local garage and they diagnosed it as a COMM 2000 fault and ordered the part in for me. However, when they replaced the faulty part with the new one, the fault persisted. They investigated further and it turns out that they had the wrong part - they ordered it based on my car's chassis number which says that it's just an SX (which it is) and they don't have auto lights and wipers, but mine does - hence the problem. However, the price for the correct part (new) has now risen from about £200 + VAT to £339 + VAT so I'm looking at trying to get hold of one off ebay (or the likes). The problem I have is the numbers on the "old" unit don't seem to match the part numbers I've seen for other units on sale. The numbers I have taken from the old unit are: Delphi: 12275626R And PSA96595097XT Whereas the part numbers for units I've seen advertised tend to look more like this: 6242.S9, 6242.T0, 6242P3, 624294 and 624233 Is anyone here able to tell me what the part number I need is - or, does anyone here know how I can find out? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks, Adam
  14. All sorted now... Picked the car up this morning and there was no charge - so I'm a happy bunny! Apparently, when changing the timing belt, he had pegged two of the cogs in place and the lower one (as in lower on the diagram he showed me) had a bit of play in it - but he thought it would be ok. However, it would appear that the timing was slightly out and one of the pistons hit it's valve. Luckily, there's a weak "rocker" there that broke which resulted in the engine only running on 3 cyclinders. Apparently there's no real damage - and the engine does seem to be running fine now. Time will tell I guess  Cheers for the help on here all :D Happy Christmas!
  15. OK - just got off the phone with the garage and have a bit of an update... He started by saying: "I probably should have changed it at the time" - which sounds like an admission of guilt to me... And he then went on to say something about it being the bottom crank pulley having sheared leaving a broken rocker. He's got a new part on order and is about to fit it in the hope that that solves the problem. Now, what I've written up there may or may not make sense - the guy was mumbling and rambling through what he was saying as quick as he could so I may not have got it wholly right. But, does it make any sense to anyone out there? Does it shed any light on the problem? Again, any help/comments will be greatly appreciated. Cheers guys! Adam
  16. Thanks for the further replies guys. Still waiting for the garage to find time to put my car up on a ramp to look at it in amongst their other jobs...
  17. Thanks for replying Iannez. I didn't have any oil warning lights on (neither pressure or level) - so I'd "assume" that the garage did put oil back in - that said, I didn't check when I picked it up - maybe I should have done :s I'll just have to sit tight and hope to hear something later today...
  18. Hi guys - my first post here and it's a shout for some help please. I've got a 2000 plate (X reg) Xantia with a 2.0 HDi engine. It's done about 94,000 miles and on Monday I put the car in to have the cam belt replaced and an oil and fitler change done. Picked the car up Monday evening and all was fine. Driving to work on Tuesday morning and I noticed that the car had lost a lot of power - my foot was closer to the floor than it should have been and I was still losing speed. Also, it sounded a bit "rough" - and I thought first of all that maybe the exhaust had gone. When slowing down I could hear and feel that it was more than this with a loud "knocking" from the engine area. At the time it happened, I was doing about 70mph on the motorway :s The car's now back with the garage that did the work on Monday and the bloke there says that to him it "sounds" like the big end has gone - he started the car to have a listen. But, he's not sure if that's 100% correct or what the cause of the problem is. Now, my problem is that I know very little about cars. Sooo.... What's the likelihood of the problem the car has develpoed NOT being related to the work the garage did on Monday? My concern is that they'll try and worm their way out of accepting responsibility for the problem - and I don't have enough knowledge to argue back. I hope that they don't do that - I went to them because in the past they've been reasonable and helpful and you get the impression that they're not ripping you off! Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.
