  1. Very many thanks for your helpful prompt reply which confirms what I think I should do. The Xantia has been a good car for us and I'm very loathe to give it up without trying to sort out this problem. I will now carry on with what I was going to do which is to contact my local garage which has been very good in the past in overcoming various problems without too much cost. Once again, thanks for your help which I really appreciate it (especially as I'm not very good with mechanical/electrical matters) and wish you and your family a Happy Christmas and a healthy New Year.
  2. Over the past month or so I have experienced trouble with the central locking/dead locking of my Xantia '95. The system 'locks on' of its own accord whilst driving along, and whilst getting out of the car when stationery, clicks on and off several times. When I unlock from the outside, it will lock back again before I can open the door. The system will settle down and is OK for a few weeks then for no reason will go faulty again. Over the past few days it has locked my wife and me in the car and I have to wind the window down and unlock with the key on the outside whilst still sitting on the inside. I use the Xantia to tow our caravan and would like to keep it for a while longer, but don't want to spend a lot of money on replacing with expensive parts. Would it be possible to pull the main fuse on this section (and not affect anything else) and revert to locking from the inside on the front passenger and two rear doors and to lock the driver's door only with the key on the outside? I should be very grateful to receive any advice with this problem.
