Hi There quick question for colin lol.. my water in fuel warning light has been flashing at me for quite a while, and the last couple of days is on permantly! is this a definate indication of water in the fuel? is there a drain plug on the filter housing? or is just a faulty connection? And secondly have been offered some bx parts for free!! are there parts which are common to the xantia? especially regarding the spheres as there are a couple of these included in the box?? Car has been a joy over the last few months, very economical and the only trouble was the clutch clip breaking last weekend... cheap fix, but very painfull and tome consuming Many thanks Chris

Hello mate i got the plastic bit from gsf yesterday morning, had to get the metal spring clip and a new pedal bolt from the main dealer though... Absolute pig of a job <_< took me 3 hours and a lot of blood, sweat and cursing... but it is done and cost less than £20 in total ;) so there is a bright side lol Chris

lol thanks colin I thought it was probably something like that... it pulls really well until 3500 so i assume that is where it all stops then... only really noticed the other day on the motorway... was cruising at 70(3000rpms) and decided to floor it and see what happened :P surged off until about 85 ish and from there on was a slow and steady increase in speed until i decided that was enough (just under 100mph) definatly not for your boy racers then :D it is my first modern diesel ( modern for me that is!!!) the landy would redline at 4000 rpms which was usually just after your ears start bleeding :P Cheers Chris

Hey guy's I have just latley noticed a bit of a hesitation/ lack of acceleration when using all the revs?? only noticble if you try to rev past about 3.5/4k might be normal?? Car drives well and it is only really affecting the hill climbing and motorway overtaking kind of speeds.. pulls really well, just looses that urgency!! what kind of speed should i get in third if i floor it seem to hit a wall at 60mph?? well an update that might help someone else.. the starting got worse and worse on cold mornings until the battery was dying before the bugger would fire up... visions of very expensive repairs were starting to appear in my poor sore head. :) borrowed some money from my boss and popped over to gsf on sat morning and came home with 4 new plugs.. 3 hours of cursing,swearing and bleeding later had managed to change 3 of them. :( the last one appears to be impossible to get at without getting behind the engine somehow to remove the intercooler pipe from the turbo :angry: Any way decided to give it a go... put everything back together, changing a bit of fuel hose while at it And success :( instant starting :) went out this morning -4 and no troubles at all... also much less smoke on start up So i am a happy bunny at the moment.. just need to do the drop link today... and the last job will be the spheres when i can find some money :( Chris

Hi there I'm no expert mind, but i think the 2.1 is just a faster, more powerful and quieter engine... that said it is also a lot more expensive to buy :( ... i run a 1.9td and am very happy with it's performance on a veg oil mix... imho you dont need a conversion with these cars as the fuel filter is already heated.. if you want to run on 100% oil all you need is a second tank for dino diesel and a change over system of some kind Just make sure your glow plugs are good... have been having major probs starting on cold mornings, kept thinking no way could it just be the plugs, must be something else which would be expensive..... just change dthe plugs yesterday and the difference is amazing :angry: instant starter in very cold weather.... Cheers dude I dont think it is the plugs after all :rolleyes: i ahve adjusted the way i start up now and it is MUCH better... i was starting like my landy :blink: foot to the floor and crank until it fires.. ;) Giving the plugs 30 seconds and no accelerator seems to work fine, still a bit of a struggle and usually have to try 2 or 3 times, but i think that will improve with the weather I have just treated it to all filters and an oil change, so all is good there Cheers Chris

Hi There I just had a thought, dangerous i know!!, maybe i am the cause of my cars bad starting in the morning... on my old landy it was always a case of full throttle to start... What throttle openings are you guy's using on the first start up of the day..?? I think the xantia has a load more sensors and is way more sensitive than a 30 year old landy lol, just a thought any way Cheers Chris

That sounds like a good system!! i am constantly on the look out for suitable containers... i used to collect the wvo in an old waterbutt, but it was extremly messy and like you say was like a magnet for dirt :( I am pushed for space at the moment, but am hoping to build myself a nice big shed sometime this summer, and will then make sure i ahve a corner to work in and set a small plant of some description.. we all know it makes sence!! just the time, lack of space and set up costs holding me back at the moment Chris

Hi there I have been having some trouble starting my xantia (96 1.9td running on bio/cooking oil mix) in the mornings.. it is fine after the first start up of the day!! Have checked the glow plugs with a tester and 3 of them are reading between 10 and 11 volts... the other is dead. of course the one that is dead is the most innaccesable one behind the injector pump :( First question is if they have power, does that mean the plug is fine??? second question is how the hell do you get at the 1st one???? And third, if 3 are actually working fine, why is it such a bugger to get going in the morning?? Cheers Chris

Dude to be honest the oil front is a bit of alet down these days :( since the revolution the price has rocketed and you will be doing well if you can find it for less than 75p a lt.... if you can get your hands on waste oil and do a good filtering job, then leave to stand for at least a week to seperate... drain off the crap which will be at the bottom, filter it again and then mix it with either dino diesel or if you lucky and have a bio plant near to you, mix it with that. I am in some ways lucky because i am a chef so have access to used oil, and occasionly nick a bit of clean stuff(my bad).. in the last 6 months the peice has gone from £10.50 /20l to £16.90/ 20l through my oil supplier and at 85p is more expensive than bio diesel from my local guy??? weird but true Chris

Hi There shropshire man!! sorry for the delay in replying, but the email notification does not seem to be working.. :( My car is standard, and have always used a diesel and oil mix in all my diesel cars... the general consensus is bosch pump good/ lucas pump bad...although.. in all my landrovers i have used a wide variety of fuels Wvo neat, mixed with diesel, sometimes uco/wvo mix and many combinations to try and find a good power to economy mix... only ever had one injector pump fail and that was on a standard landy 2.25 engine with well over 200k miles on, so could have been general wear and tear rather than the oil causing trouble... The troubles with my car are as follows... hydraulic leak (sorted) running too cool (sorted with new thermostat) suspension is very hard trouble starting on cold mornings(may or may not be fuel related, but i think it is the glow plugs myself) drop link bush has failed no service history.. so will need a cambelt for peace of mind Have just replaced all the filters and treated the old girl to an oil change The last few niggles will be sorted as and when money comes availble Cheers Chris

Hi peter No it is not home brew, we have a manufacturer down here in devon, South west Biofuels. If you buy like pump diesel he charges £1.06(includes road duty), but if you collect with jerry cans it is classed as generater fuel, which is fine now that customs have relaxed the duty on your first 2500 litres..lol i used to use his fuel in my series land rover and there was no troubles with starting so i think i may have some glow plug issues.. on the landy if there was a fault the light would not work??? the trouble with the xantia is the light seems to work fine?? maybe a project for today, will see if there is power supplied to the plugs Cheers Chris

Hello mate I have only had mine a couple of weeks, but am running on 60% bio diesel(75p litre) and the rest cooking oil.. runs very well once started, but i do have some trouble on a cold morning... i will have to check the glow plugs though as it could be they are not working as they should be.. Runs very well on this mix for me and as far as i know as long as you have the bosch injector pump, you should be fine on the wvo Cheers Chris

HI Dave I will sort them when the cash is availble.. not very high on the priorities at the moment.. did and oil change with new oil,air and fuel filters today, also changed the thermostat... and all is now good.. Next on the list is the drop link bar thingy and after that will be the spheres... GSF are about 15 miles from me so no probs to pop around, but i am finding them out of stock quite often, and have to pop around the corner to the main dealer.. they have been very helpful so far... and some of the prices are not too bad..
