  1. Hi all, My 1998 1.9TD Xantia with air con was fine until I went too leave work tonight, the engine diagnostic light comes on and stays on and the car sounds horrible, well a loud knocking noise. It seems to start and idle fine but the noise is horrendous. I was told to change fuel filter and put in some injector cleaner, as it might be a blocked injector. I've done this but no change but I didnt run the car too long so was wandering if I've not given it enough time for the cleaner fluid to get to the injectors! All your advice would be hugely appreciated. Many thanks, Shaun
  2. Hi all, I have a 98 Mk2 1.9TD (with aircon) Xantia and i've noticed again the auxilary belt (the one that drives the alternator) seems to have jumped a tooth again towards the engine. So as you look at it the right hand edge/tooth of the belt is sitting over the edge of the pulleys and this edge of the belt is slightly fraid. When the engine is running the belt seems to be running true and I've looked for signs of any of the pulley's it runs on are unbalanced of moving around which might have caused the belt to jump over. Now the story of this belt starts shortly after we brought the car just over a year ago, at the time of buying it I didnt notice the belt but when I did the first oil change about a week later I noticed the belt was the way it is now jumped over to the right. Once again I inspected it and the trueness of the belt and all seemed fine. So I left it. About 3 months later it was put in a Citroen specialist garage for a new radiator and coolant flush and I asked the garage to take the belt off and reseat it, and check for any problems. They did the job, and mentioned that they didnt find any issues with the belt or any of pulleys but did say that this is quite common on this engine and its nothing really to worry about. Thing is now I was changing the light bulbs yesterday in the headlights and noticed the belt had gone back to its "more preferred" position of one tooth over to the right as described above. But this time the belt if slightly fraying and I think perhaps there is a problem. The fact this belt is very important I want it sorted. So has anyone had this issue and what is the cure, my first suspicion is the belt on there is the wrong belt as it does look as if its the wrong width, but the car has lots of good service history and although mistakes happen I doubt this could happen! Thanks for all your help, Many thanks.... Shaun
  3. Hey all.... Im will be picking up my 2nd Xantia on Friday its a 1998 S'reg 1.9TD SX (non-estate) only 95k, spotless years MOT etc.... Its got a stereo headunit in it which has a CD button on it, but I couldnt find any sign of a multi-changer, any ideas where these are housed, or more to the point was the SX model fitted as standard with it? Its got air con, leccy mirrors, windows, remote central locking etc... so its pretty toy'd up. If it does not have one any ideas if standard non-citroen changers can just be plugged into the existing wiring, if it has this capability? Thanks for all you help.... Shaun
  4. Hi all... Just come in from replacing the disc's. The reason I didnt notice the retaining screw is that somebody had cleverly welded on a spigot to the end of the screw so to prevent the invitable rounding off of the phillips head, coupled with the build up of general muck it just looked like a locating lug for the wheel as it also passed through the wheel via a hole in the wheel. Luckily I used a pair of grips just to see what this lug was and it turned, and hey presto it became apparent it was the retaining screw. As for the caliper, lots of corrosion on mating face, which took a long while to scrape off and make the rear faces square and flat again, but worth it. I think the last person to do this hadnt scraped it flat, which caused the drivers disc to wear randomly with the pad as the caliper was not sitting properly. So thanks all for ya help...... everything is covered with anti-seize copper paste, so hopefully next time a quicker job it will prove to be. Have a good rest of weekend, Shaun
  5. Hi all, I did the other front pads (first time since I've owned it) this morning, moved onto the rear, passengers side went smoothly, pads in and out in a jiffy, disc was in good nick, moved around to too final drivers rear wheel (20 mins til F.A Cup Final - so doing well) and this disc was heavily rutted, which meant the new pads didnt seat at all well on the disc, so I knew straight away it meant new discs. Too my annoyance it meant I had to leave the old pads in as cannot get to auto-factors til Monday, so off with passengers rear wheel and replace new pads with the old ones - meant I missed 1st 20 mins of footy.... ha ha anyway not to worry. My main question is that in the manual which is on my PC and I didnt consult at the time, seems to say that the rear's come off like the fronts, basically get caliper out of the way, remove the usual retaining countersunk screw and hey presto disc falls off. But Im 99% certain when I was examining the rear disc to see how it did come off, all I could work out is that the disc is held on via the big hub nut and bearings, im sure I didnt see any small retaining screw that usually holds on most common brake discs on most other standard cars. So what is the correct method in removing the rear discs on a 1995 1.9 Non-Turbo hatchback Xantia? Haynes seems to be very vague on this. How exactly does the caliper come off, do I have to split it as it seems to be in two parts, will I have to bleed system afterwards? Thanks for the help....... much appreciated.... Regards, Shaun
  6. I've only had a quick look and I must admit the bottom of the sphere looks alright, and the oil seems to be coming from the block the sphere is attached too, as the bottom of the sphere seems clean. The MOT cert. just say the sphere is weeping, so Im hoping its just that, or the seal, as I want it to be a quick fix and not have to muck about fitting a new regulator block or whatever it is called. Cheers, Shaun
  7. Hi, My other half is enjoying her Xantia I brought for her, but swear she makes things up with it half the time. She's says now that the brakes sometimes feel spongy, especially when pulling up to a junction or traffic lights for instance, but the brakes still "stop" her and dont feel like they are under-performing in anyway. Plus just as she pulls up to said stops or junctions the car lurches forward, as if you'd slipped off the clutch pedal a little. Wish I've wound her up by asking her it that is the case, and she's adamant its not her causing the car to lurch froward. Also she claims there is like a werring or pumping noise coming from the steering at certain times when she is driving, any ideas what this could be, or is just the hydraulics pumping around and totally normal? I've taken it a couple of times over the weekend and couldnt get it to play-up for me, or do anything out of the ordinary. My experience of brakes is that if they're spungy they're always spongy, but im new too this hydraulic system, so please anyone put me right on this. Also the front centre sphere is weeping could this have anything to do with it, I intend on changing it this weekend, does the Haynes manual give you a good step by step guide on how to do it? All help would be much appreciated... Cheers, Shaun
  8. Sorry was me being new to it all. Downloading part 1 now. Could I simply keep an eye on the level and keep it topped up for now? I'll get round to doing the replacement soon enough. Thanks for your help. Next thing on the list is to repair door locks as key doesnt open the doors anymore, hopefully when I replace battery's in remote that'll make them work! Cheers again....
  9. Hi I can't see the link for the manual, please advise? Cheers.....
  10. Hey there, Newbie here, I've just taken ownership of a 1995 Xantia 1.9 Diesel, cost me £400 and very happy with it. Its got a brand new MOT and drives very well. Now I forgot to look at the advisory note for the MOT - a big mistake I know, Im usually eagle eyed like that. Anyway, on it, it says the "Front Centre Sphere is weeping", is this something serious, and how easy is it to replace these spheres? I thought there was one to each wheel, so where would the "Front Centre" one be, is it easily accessed? Will the weeping cause any engine or ride problems? Do I need a special tool to replace the sphere with? All help would be most appreciated, Many thanks, Shaun
