My mate had a clutch in his 307 estate. Few thou later went again, discovered flywheel not replaced. It needed flywheel & another clutch. :'(
-
Got it towed home by my mate, no probs. Left at local garage. Instructed them to do clutch, bearing & flywheel. Should be sorted then. Bring back the old cars, £40 for clutch & a couple hours on street fixing. Modern pieces of overcomplicated junk. :( Should be fixed by time i get home from work at tea time tomorrow. Thanx for all your tips.

Car 51 plate. £90.oo clutch + bearing. £200.oo flywheel. £120.oo labour. :-(

The release bearing has allegedly died, seems obvious to drop new clutch in while the box is off. Do i need to replace the dual mass fly wheel? heard this before but never known it. :/

Hi Parkesie. It's about 8 miles from home. Engime will need to be running for power steering but I didn't think it would affect the box. :( Cheers Pete

Hi guys. My C5 (manual) has just died. AA chap said the Release Bearing has gone. Can be towed home but front wheels need to be raised or else gearbox will smash. Is he talking crap?? surely towing is ok if in neutral. Any advice greatly received. Cheers, Pete

Cheers Coastline, that's what I expected really. Thanks, Pete.

Hi guys n' gals. Recently my fan belt decided to shred itself to bits, some of which wrapped around the top pulley, power steering pump, i believe. Since having a new belt fitted it appears that i have a little oil leak from said pump. Can the pump be serviced with new seals on the pulley shaft, or better to replace the pump?? Any advice greatly appreciated. Cheers Pete.

Hi, I've got a C5 2.0 HDi. My temp gauge went off the scale, STOP lamp the works. Rad was cold. elec fan whizzing like a good un. Changed thermostat, 1/2 mile down road & bang, same again. Air lock i thought, so bled system according to Haynes manual (3 times & 1/4 tank of diesel later) still same fault warnings. Changed temp sender unit, topped up system, bled air out old skool way, JOB DONE
-
Little late but result is Thermostsat swapped. Still the same. Fitted new temp sensor, job done. :)

Job done. Didn't want to jemmy my frozen garage doors open, then sit in snow on the street doing the job. Booked it into a local garage. Turned out i needed discs as well, kinda suspected so. Hour n a quarter in garage. Would have took me a lot longer & my local parts shop would have prob sold me wrong discs, LOL Cheers.

People wanting advice on insurance topics. Here's some advice i will give freely. DO NOT insure with Hastings Direct. Had a minor bump on new years day, :( Hastings listened to my account, agreed i was not at fault. 3rd party lied saying i was at fault. Hastings & Albany Assist said "our hands are tied" Sent my car for repairs, written off & booked in to go to salvage. NO financial offer, NO prior warning. I Said I wanted car back as then very reliable. "OK have car back but not repaired, not written off". Claim in stalemate as no independant witnesses. My 3 passengers don't count then!!!!! Hastings never kept me up to date, never returned calls, don't answer e-mails, nothing. HASTINGS DIRECT ARE COMPLETE & UTTER USELESS SHITE HAWKS. (probably their other [5?] subsidiary companies are too) I went far beyond what was necessary to prove innocence, but a lying piece of scum has caused me major grief. Hastings do not care. BE WARNED PEOPLE OF THE ROAD... Pete.

Motor insurance IS legalised extortion.

Same journey today, approx 7 miles, guage at normal, stat housing hot, top hose hot, rad hot at top & bottom. :/ My limited knowledge suggests iffy thermostat.. Happy easter everyone. Pete.
-
Thanks everyone. I'll swap stat this weekend see if I can bleed any more air out. Hope that fixes it. The mechanic last time said maybe the lost coolant caused faulty reading from sensor. Clever idea to put an electric sensor near a bleed valve!! Perhaps snow or ice had got to the sensor. I will check if wires / contacts looks clean. ***Little journey last night. Cabin blower nice n warm, guage at normal, top hose from stat to rad hot. Rad hot at top cold at bottom. *** Cheers. Pete.

cheers johndouglas & paul.h, here goes..1st time stat bleed cap missing, expansion tank now dry, rad / top hose cold, cabin blower cold. Replaced cap on stat housing, refilled expansion bottle with anti freeze. Bled air out as far as i know. car held on 2000 revs for a couple of minutes, top hose / rad started to warm. Mechanic said stat appears ok, sensor iffy probably. Fan was running but mechanic said the water was not hot enough to warrant the warning lamps etc. No obvious signs of overheating, steam etc. Temp gauge goes from normal, to straight off the scale, theres a beep & red light comes on + STOP lights up on speedo. (No gradual increase in temp guage) ok for couple of weeks. Yesterday, STOP warning lamp, temp gauge past MAX as before, BUT, NO coolant loss, bleed valve cap on stat still in place, fan running, top hose cold rad cold. cabin blower hotter than usual. Everything ok today, temp guage usual place half way between cold / hot. not checked hose / rad for heat. Cabin blower usual temp. Bloody modern technology. As a matter of interest, can you buy a thermostat as in the old days, or as the Haynes manual says you buy the housing with the new stat, complete unit??(that seems a bit strange as the stat IS removable just like the simple good old days) Cheers Pete. :-/

Radiator is cold, by the way. :-(

Hi, any c5 owners had this? Couple of weeks ago lost coolant from valve on thermostat. Temp guage off the scale, STOP lamp on. Replaced valve cap with a dust cap from tyre. All ok till today. Guages off SCALE. STOP light on blower red hot NO coolant loss. Faulty stat?? Faulty sensor on end of engine 'behind' stat?? Something more sinister. C5 2001 2.0 HDi Thanks for any help. Pete :-(

Cheers Johndouglas. To be honest i didn't expect any replies as i had trawled through page after page looking for tips. All the posts seemed to be ancient, as if no-one used these pages anymore.
