C8-Wheel Removal & Rear Screen Wash Problem
albotek replied to albotek's topic in Technical Section - C8
Hi Paul, With the NEW pump disconnected I get 12 volts across the connecting wires (blue and white) with both front and rear screen wash with a change in polarity from back to front. But when I connect the pump I dont get the reverse polarity for the back wash however I can hear a click from atleast 1 relay so it maybe that one has failed. The click is coming from the fuse box under the bonnet, where the fuse for the pump is located. I cant see any relays, they are probably underneath the fuses which will need the fuse box to be totally disconnected and removed. Ive not checked to see what I am actually getting to chassis. That'll be by next test. Dave -
C8-Wheel Removal & Rear Screen Wash Problem

UPDATE: I managed to get some proper jet covers for the bumper and they broke and fell off with first time test. So I screwed those reflectors to the end of the jets and they look and work great. I removed the screen wash pump and, sure enough, it would turn one way but not t'other. I replaced the pump but the fault persists BUT if I reverse the connections to the pump the water comes out the rear jets and not the front. If I disconnect the pump supply I get a voltage reversal but when pump connected the -12v is absent. I think it may be a relay that I can hear but not locate. Dave -

Hi There is water getting into the engine compartment. Ive heard of this being caused by the water outlets under the bonnet being blocked. Ive also heard that this can cause premature cam belt failure and or electrical problems. In my case it appears that the seal along the bottom of the glass is not sealing and water is getting in that way. I have tried silicon and another sealant without success. Any one else had the problem and was able to solve it other than replacing the seal? (that dosent look like an easy job). Dave

Hi all, Anyone know if there is an online C8 workshop manual? I recently purchased a downloadable one for £9.99 but the files were so big (40 GB) they filled up my hard drive OK I have only got 80 GB but I don't want to upgrade my PC for another few months. The manual also only worked in a virtual machine environment, so I had to down load and install a version of that. Then I had to download another version that wasn't compatible with the files. I wasted 3 days of my life trying , in vain, to get it going. Need it be that complicated? I got onto the WS manual suppliers and they said for another £13 they would supply a DVD version. So I thought great! I will be able to browse the manual straight from the DVD. BUT NO!! you still have to transfer the same huge files I already downloaded to the hard drive anyway. So I am £23 out of pocket and still cant view the manual. I JUST WANT AN OLD FASHIONED BOOK!!! In my opinion a WS manual is better in paper form so you can have it next to you when examining the car? It's not that practical to take my desktop PC to the vehicle nor will my C8 fit into my office . Any way if I could find an online version that I can browse through that would suffice I DON'T MIND PAYING FOR ACCESS!! Regards, Dave

C8-Wheel Removal & Rear Screen Wash Problem

AHAA!!..... At some stage the covers must have snapped off the front of the shooty outty mechanism so some bright spark screwed some pretty reflectors over the holes so the shooty outty things couldnt shoot out. And it passed the last MOT like this. I have now removed the reflectors so the head lamp washers now work and this confirms what you all have been saying about the mystery pump. I now have two holes in my bumper and I need to find a way of securing some sort of flap or try to get replacement parts. Thanks for your help in tracking down this unknown issue. I'll order up a new rear/front washer pump to see if that solves that.... Is the rear washer not working an MOT failure? Dave -

Another possibly daft question. If my C8 had headlamp wash wouldnt there be washer jets or wipers of some kined? I cant find any mention of light washers in the handbook. Dave -

C8-Wheel Removal & Rear Screen Wash Problem
albotek replied to albotek's topic in Technical Section - C8
The water tank on my C8 definitely has 2 pumps. 1 seems to have two outlets and works fine. The other has one outlet, I have put 12volts on it and that runs too. If I twist the column switch for the rear screen wash I can hear a click from under the engine fuse box (no sound from either pump) which I assume to be a relay. I guess this rules out a problem with the switch and the pump is ruled out. Is there another fuse? I cant see any water jets to wash the head lamps so I assume the rear wash has a separate pump? I assume that when the column switch is activated this tells the BSI to actuate the relay. The relay then switches 12v to the pump. So this leads me to think that perhaps the relay is faulty, there is a 12 volt supply feed missing or I am barking up the wrong tree. Cheers, Dave -
UPDATE: Panic over. I took her to a Citroen dealer today and he reported no problems AND shut the EML off, charged me 10 euros. Thanks for your input guys. Dave

Hmmmm....no info regarding the injector was passed to me. Maybe I should return to a Citroen garage to get them to set it up before I embark on my journey to the UK. Dave

Hi, I had the engine management light come on and off with loss of power. This turned out to be lack of Elloys and some valvy thing on the FAP. After those things were rectified the light has remained off. That is until I had an injector replaced. The light is now on permanently. There are no symptoms regarding the car's operation. The mechanic that did the injector hasn't got the diagnosis equipment but said not to worry about it, BUT I DO!! I've had a quick look under the bonnet to see if he left any pipes or cables off but could see nothing untoward. I took the car to a chap that had the diagnosis equipment and there were no error codes and the light would not reset via his laptop. He suggested disconnecting the battery for 30 mins or over night. Now I'm a bit loathed to do that after reading, in the hand-book and on line, that a plethora of problems could appear due to the necessity of system re-initialization after battery re connection. Should I ignore it, should I disconnect the battery, should I panic? Dave

C8-Wheel Removal & Rear Screen Wash Problem

UPDATE: I got the mechanic to remove all for road wheels and grease'em up so that should solve any future issues. According to the same mechanic, there are two pumps and the rear one works with a direct 12v so something else going on there. Could there be a second fuse somewhere for the rear pump? Any idea what the long plastic "dip-stick" type thing attached the the screen wash reservoir cap is for? Is it just a dip-stick? He suggested, if all else fails, connect the two together so at least I can get water to the rear screen. Dave -
Gave My C8 A Treat And Look How She Repays Me
albotek replied to albotek's topic in Technical Section - C8
UPDATE: Well....it turned out to be an injector failure. Regarding cost?....the total bill was 350 euros BUT that included front brake pads and the removal of all four road wheels for cleaning and greasing. So all in all not too bad. Dave -

I have just returned from the garage and the mechanic spotted the problem straight away. He said it is definitely an injector problem. It it proves that one mans chuffing is another mans tapping  I'll let you know how it all pans out. Dave -

Thanks Paul, that sounds encouraging I was thinking about £900. If it turns out to be £200 she can stay on my Christmas card list! It is definitely a loud tapping sound as opposed to a "chuffing". The engine is a 2.2 HDi so fingers crossed. I'll let you know the out come of her trip to the garage on Monday. Dave -
I have owned my C8 exclusive for just under a year now. A lovely car I THOUGHT!! I have had the curse of the engine management light and loss of power. Anyway I got her elloys fluid tank refilled and they found some valvy type thing gone on the FAP after which she has been running like a dream. I also treated her to a good service. Yesterday, however, while climbing some rather steep winding road I was aware of a sudden tapping noise from under the bonnet. No warning lights, no smoke, no power loss and no temperature change. A few seconds after the tapping sound was a smell of exhaust fumes in the car. On opening the bonnet there is quite a loud tapping sound from the left side of the engine (as you look at it). There is no affect on power, just an unpleasant and intermittent exhaust fumes smell in the car. Does that sound expensive? Dave

Update I have been living with this, blowing fuse, fault for a while now. Luckily I havent needed the lights, however, I hate to let things defeat me. I had a couple of mechanics look into it but all shrugged there shoulders and didnt want to get involved. So I thought I'd have another crack today. I put my meter across the fuse holder and monitored the current. It was when I pulled the hand brake up that my meter went into overload protection. I cant see and chaffing or near by electrical cables along the hand brake cable so I am thinking that the fault may be under the brake lever mechanism. Dave

C8-Wheel Removal & Rear Screen Wash Problem
albotek replied to albotek's topic in Technical Section - C8
Usually the washer system uses the same reservoir and pump for both screens. The pump reverses direction for the rear washer. Check that the jet isn't blocked. And to prevent your alloys sticking in the future, smear some copper grease on the hubs before fixing the wheels. Thanks John, I did disconnect the rear screen wash pipe in the rear inspection hatch but still no water flows. I did try blowing and sucking on the pipe but I just went dizzy. There is no sound from the screen wash pump in the reverse direction.. Dave -
C8-Wheel Removal & Rear Screen Wash Problem
albotek replied to albotek's topic in Technical Section - C8
Thanks Paul. Yes the wheels are alloys. The car has to go in to have the brake pads replaced so I'll get the mechanic to take all the wheels off in anticipation of a roadside predicament. I just need to sort out the rear screen wash now. Dave -
The 10 amp pump fuse had blown. Replacing it has restored the front screen wash BUT not the rear. The pump doesnt even energise when the rear wash switch is rotated. I assume the rear wash and front wash share the same pump and reservoir? I tried to take a wheel off my C8 today (while trying to check out screen wash pump). I removed the wheel nuts but the wheel would not come off. Do I have to remove the center split pip assy. too? surely not, or do I need to be a bit more forceful with it. (I tried kicking it). Dave

Hi, I'm not sure if I should open a new thread or just tag on to this one as I am experiencing a similar issue. My C8 has had the engine management light going on and off for some months now. When its on I get a sluggish performance. My local mechanic finally got his diagnostics equipment in a few days ago. It told him "THE CAR HAS A FAULT" but NOT where the fault may lie. Anyway he noticed that the additive tank is empty (I've not had any low additive warning). I've not had the car (2005 2.2 HDi exclusive) very long so it has been a steep learning curve. The EM light has now been on for a couple of weeks. The question I have is:- Is it likely that after refilling the additive tank that the FAP will clear after a while or is there away of cleaning it out OR should I just go for the removal of it as suggested earlier in the discussion? (will this affect emissions when it comes to MOT test?) Regards, Dave
