  1. Just to confirm the above. Although it looked like a tensioner it was indeed a seezed alternator pulley.
  2. By jolly, Ive done it! I changed all tensioners and belt and gave it a try. It was just the same. Took the alternator off and changed the pulley (which fit fine, but was a different size?) I didnt Change crank shaft as the one on looked as good as the new one. Also. the tensioner that i though was wrecked seems to be fine and so does the belt. It was indeed the alternator pulley causing the problem. the old one is seezed solid wheras the new one works like the rear cog on a Bike and spins one way only. The noise has gone and no more skipping tensioner or squeel.. Great!. Now to start another about the next niggle :S Many thanks for all the help with this Paul. I owe you a pint next time you Visit N. Wales
  3. Ok. I now have all the bits. crank shaft pulley, tensioner, belt, the other wheel (what ever that is) a new alternator pulley, the pulley puller tool and Haynes manual which seems to suggest i can go through the wheel arch. All i need now is a slighlty dryer day. any tips n tricks i should know before i start? will keep you posted
  4. Thanks for removing info. didnt occur to me. I have found an Alternator Clutch Pulley product number ZEN 5437 which fits the 5705AA. i will register on the service.citroen site now. many thanks
  5. sorry to be a pain, but where do i find the engine type? Ive decided to get the crankshaft pulley just in case. The belt and tensioner were changed last april (8000 miles ago) and both have to be done again as the belt jumps about and the tensioner doesnt look like its holding. if im cahanging them again so soon i might aswell do this one too. i need to know if i have a DW10ATED or a DW10AT. i have been given two part numbers : LPD0002 & TVD1006 both are different i think? thanks again
  6. many thanks again paul. i will take a look.
  7. Thanks paul. those numbers really helped. It seems the suppliers cant work out what i want and have only quoted for a belt in the end. I have done some seriouse digging about and cross referenceing and i think this list is correct: belt : 6PK1735 or 5750VX Tensioner (DriveAlign) : 575155 or T38392 idler pulley : 575129 or T38231 ContinentalDirect Torsional Vibration Damper TVD1006 (posibly CVD1095 or 0515SA both of which are condiderable cheaper than Gates). Not much point ordering until Monday so i will just keep cross referencing to make sure.
  8. Hi all. I have had the same problem. tractor noises etc and was told by mechanic to "ignore it, probably the engine mounts rattling". Now the belt is jumping and the tensioner wheel is loose and i have a squeeling noise. I have to find a new belt and tensioner set, but reading this i might be just as well looking for this alternator as well. Just so i dont get the problematic alternator again, does any one know if the part numbers differ for each and which is the correct alternator (or pulley as i have extraction tools) i should be getting. So far im having a nightmare just getting suppliers to confirm which pulleys i need to go with the belt. i would like to get the lot from one place if posible. does anyone have a supplier who could give a decent answer? The car is a 2003 Citroen c5 sx hdi 2.0 (1997cc) rc code DCRHZB VIN VF7DCRHZB76309617 REG . car has SANDON compressor. many thanks.
  9. Hi again. i managed to hand my mobile inside the engine with a torch. the label says sanden, I was going to get a belt kit. i assume this would do it. thanks again
  10. Hi All. My aux belt is moving about and it seems the tensioner has had it. thus new belt kit required. I think i have found the correct part but have been asked do i have a Delphi Compressor or a Sanden? The car is a 2003 Citroen c5 sx hdi1997cc rc code DCRHZB VIN VF7DCRHZB76309617 i gave the above information but got the same question. could anybody enlighten me as to which i have or give the correct part number. Many thanks
  11. many thanks for getting back to me. ive managed to find instructions for the middle screen (it has a green back). there are no settings for headlamps in there, but there are some settings (auto switch on. close windows if it rains etc.) which can be done via the engine control socket (ask your dealer during servce). the only issues left are the airbag warning/child saftey seat (this comes on regardless of the switch position) so i will check the switch itself when i get a moment. i will also check the bulb seatings as sugested as soon as i can find a way to reach them and will keep you up to date. all the best and thanks again
  12. Hi. Just got a C5 2003 2.0 110 hdi. its the faclift model. Its a great car, been very well looked after and has 75k on the clock all services are up to date and came with all recipts and history. There are however a few things that are not quite right and/or im not sure how the thing works. 1. how to alighn headlights. 2. how to use the button/screen to do with tripometer and options. 3. airbag/child saftey seat fault. the main niggle is the diped beam headlamp alignment. it seems that the left light is poitning to a few feet in front of the car and the other is heading to the right as if tring to look around a bend? High beam is fine. I see from the forum there are different types of headlight. some are automatic? is there a way to tell which I have? if automatic, a maual i have found says i can enable/disable using the multifuntion display? is this the center lcd screen? There is an LCD screen in the middle of the dash that gives tripometer readings when i press the button on the wiper stick, options can be switch on/off with a 5 second press. this scrolls through to overspead and then a Check? and i have at one time had it say "programming". but it was all trial and error because the Handbook that came with the car shows an older dash. how did i get to programming and what does it do? is there a set of instructions or menu anywhere for downloading? another issue is i get a child seat active warning, even though i have turned the key to switch the airbag back on. this is followed by airbag fault. can anyone suggest what might be causing this. many thanks in advance to anyone who can shed light on any of these issues. Steve
