I'm having the sump cleaned out and turbo checked later on this week (1.6 HDI) ....while they're at it, is it worth getting them to blank off the EGR Valve ? ........I've heard this is one of the reasons carbon deposits build up in the engine ...... Is it legal to do ? and if it is, is there any likelyhood of it not being legal in the future......also is it just a case of fitting a blank, or does the engine management system need to be told that the EGR valve has been blanked off .........I'm using a diesel specialist rather than a Citroen delership (£78.00 per hour + VATseemed a bit steep) so they probably won't have access to a Lexia. Any thoughts / Advice would be appreciated

"check Oil Level" Warning On Multifunction Display

Quick update, and thanks to Paul & Coastline for prompt reply's ........Problem seems to have righted itself.......Blockage ?........I read somewhere that regeneration process can sometimes cause a bit of fuel to get into the sump ...... ................As I said , it's done 6k since last oil change ........I'll have it changed again at local Citroen dealers between now and Christmas ......will probably have done 8K by then....I don't have a problem spending a little extra on regular oil changes if it prolongs engine / turbo life . -
"check Oil Level" Warning On Multifunction Display

Thanks Paul. Car is parked in the drive (which is level) every night. This morning I got a beep and the warning message. I've checked the dipstick and it's definitely not low. If the head gaskets gone it would have overheated today ......no? especially in 2 x 45 minute journeys in rush hour traffic ranging from nose to tail queuing to 70mph+ motorway work. Also if fuel is contaminating the oil, how will that effect the Turbo? Hmmmm deffo need to get this looked at before it gets expensive. -
(56 plate 1.6 HDI 90k on the clock) I'm getting "check oil level" upon startup ....also service indicator comes on but soon goes out once car is running...car runs ok....oil level looks fine on the dipstick ,,,,,,,,was changed by my local Citroen dealership when it was serviced 6k ago....any ideas? ......I'm fully aware of importance of maintenance of this engine and keeping up with oil changes etc .........my daily commute is 25 miles each way .........obviously I need to get it checked out ....are there any easy diy checks I could do ? do you recommend I get it booked in straight away...or can I leave it until next week ?

56REG 1.6HDI LX. Currently 83K Had it 8 months and no problems up to press......Apart from dipped beam and sidelight bulbs ...thank god for skinny kids with double jointed wrists at my local Halfords! Bought it to do a job .......get me to work comfortably, reliably and economically......which so far it has done perfectly well. Service and MOT coming up in may......I reckon that will set me back 3 or 400 quid (Just general w&t stuff like brakes)

Did you try it on the test drive ? I bought a 65 plate back in August ........ set the aircon to max on the test drive and it wasn't doing anything ....salesman told me it just needed re-gassing and told me it would be sorted upon collection ....which it duly was ....for the next fortnight I had the aircon on max as much as I could ........as time progressed it got weaker and weaker until all it was doing was making a pathetic kind of hissing noise ........back to the dealer (Citroen Dealership) who informed me it may not be covered under the warranty ...........I told them that I couldn't give a flying toss if it was covered under the warranty or not .........I pointed it out on the test drive and they said it would be sorted for delivery as per instructions on my purchase / sales documents......so they had to fix it free of charge....which they did ........they put a new condenser on it which has sorted it out. I will say though, after owning Audi's and Fords in the past with Auto Aircon, the Citroen doesn't exactly belt out cold or hot air in Auto mode like they used to do.......but it does get the job done.

Appreciate what you say Coastline ......Having been a Rep for a number of years doing 30k+ a year on A roads and Motorways throughout Northern England and Scotland, driving Mondeo's, Audi A4's & Saab 93's, I Know exactly why you would need 130+ BHP on a big car, however, I'm off the road now, My daily commute consists of 4 miles nose to tail rush hour traffic, and then on to 20 miles busy managed motorway....weekends it sits in the drive apart from an odd jaunt to to the supermarket. Priority is 1/ economy, 2/ comfort, 3/ performance .......I get 53.2mpg, It's quiet and luxurious and rides beautifully smooth........although it's not exactly quick off the mark, it will quite happily sit all day on the motorway at 80-90mph if I want....add to that the price I paid for it, and the condition it's in..... it ticked all the boxes. I've run it for the last 3 weeks and to be quite honest with you, it's never been found wanting....to the point where I've actually thought to myself, If i had a more powerful engine I wouldn't have been able to use it"......I can only go as quick as the guy in front, and i can only go as quick as the speed cameras allow........If I was back on the road repping, it definately would not be suitable, but for what I need it for, It's just the job! <_<

Thanks for the reply Paul. I'm a bit of a cynic, so I'm pretty wary of anything technical I don't know much about. Like I said. I got it from a Citroen dealer. They advertised it on Autotrader as a Citroen Approved when in fact it wasn't (got a 6 month RAC warranty with it instead) They've stamped the service book but somebody has written " prep" in the comments.....no mention of oil change.....but surely they would wouldn't they? after all, they're a mainline Citroen dealership. They've also reset the service indicator on the dashboard ...........How can I tell it's had an oil change? ....like I said, after less than 300 miles, the oil is jet black and pretty thin................Maybe I should bite the bullet and get an oil change for my own peace of mind.

Thanks for the reply Paul ..........was chuffed with the car, only to have my bubble burst in first week of ownership  ..... I do look after my cars .......don't do much mechanics myself, but am a firm believer in spending money with the right people to keep my cars well serviced, so am fully prepared to keep up with service schedule with this one ...........So, I bought it from a Citroen main dealer who say they have serviced it pre - delivery, I've just checked the oil and it's BLACK, THIN, and looks as though it's very high as well ........ well over the bulb on the dipstick .......... I don't have much experience with hi-tech modern diesels ....... is this how the oil should be ? I'm used to new oil being greeny brown and thick and gloopy ......... I fully appreciate the need to keep up with oil and service schedules in order to prolong the life of key components such as Turbo's .......... can you or anybody else tell me if this is old oil or not ????? Thanks in advance

So ten years after binning the BX meteor which I had love hate relationship with, mainly thanks to an idiot back street (so called) independent Citroen Specialist, and the damned thing falling to bits due to a severe case of bodyrot.......obviously not including the bonnet and tailgate! .............. I'm now the proud owner of a 56 plate C5 1.6 HDI LX .......full service history, 75k on the clock .verified by VOSA ................ Big car , small engine but pulls surprisingly well once it get's going .....I'm used to more agile more powerful stuff so it's a bit of a shock to the system .............having said that, I totally get it !................ Ride is sublime, and it cruises on the Motorway perfectly, add to that 52mpg and I'm more than happy .........however, question if you please ............. I notice there are a couple of companies out there offering a re-mapping service for this engine .......... they are claiming an extra 30 BHP and increased fuel consumption as well ! so, what's the downside? will it reduce life of key components such as Turbo, Timing Belt etc............ they claim cars are shipped from the factory in a "generic state of tune" to accommodate worldwide conditions ....heat, cold, dust, poor fuel, lax servicing etc ......... but surely, if all it takes is a software update, UK dealerships would be prepping vehicles for UK conditions prior to delivery ....rather than supplying them in their "generic state" or am I missing something ?
