Going to connect my Lexia to it now and see what's on there if I can understand it
-
Update: it started this morning, however, engine management light on, and copious amounts of white / grey smoke with a diesel smell. Also comes up with de pollution system faulty, could it be injector fault as I've only been averaging 32 to 34 mpg, still got concerns though about why it's using so much water, Thanks

Hi everyone I have a 2005 C5 2.2HDI Auto exclusive and this morning went to start it and it wouldn't. First thing the computer said coolant level too low, been having to top it up for a few months now and always thought head gasket was on way out but there is no pressuring in expansion tank, or bubbles or mayonnaise anywhere. Anyway turned key and it fired for about 5 seconds and misfired and cut out. Tried again and starter motor was very reluctant to turn over to the point where the starter was turning but not engaging. Tried it again and it went to fire but cut out almost immediately, then tried it later this afternoon it fired for a few seconds then misfired and cut out. Question is does it seem like head gasket even though it hasn't been pressuring or no water in oil, I.e. Can water get between cylinders and not be seen, by the way there has been no white smoke. Thanks in anticipation Andy

Thanks Coastine. Well, it seems it wasn't the head gasket after all. Had a mechanic out last night and he checked it all over and h.g. Is absolutely fine, no oil in water, no water in oil, mayonnaise was using it for short journeys, apparently the egr valve is partially blocked, and the fuel filter need changing quite badly so it seems like a fuel problem especially when I opened up the fuel filler cap and I heard a lot of gurgling and hissing as though there was a vacuum in the tank, after putting 20£ diesel in we went on a 70 mile trip with absolutely no problem at all so here's hoping changing the fuel, filter will help and I will be asking on here how to do that. Cheers Andy

Thanks guys, I noticed low coolant a couple of times and topped it up. However since then the car starts normally, there is no white smoke or any smoke at all, and the mayonnaise in the filler cap has mysteriously disappeared also the oil looks fine on the dipstick I have ran the engine for an hour or more with no problems but have t tried yet to go for a run in it. I can't understand why the engine cut out though for a few minutes, then it was like the battery power was very low on recranking and after that I could start it normally but with lots of white smoke. I've got a guy coming to give it a sniffer test tonight so I'll see what that tells me. I've also read about this sealant called 'steel seal' and speaking to lots of people they recommend it. Oil level is fine and no trouble with turbo. I have the full Citroen service box installed and a Lexia 3 full diagnostic kit. Cheers Andy

Hi allI've got a Citroen C5 2.2HDI mk11 2005 auto model Registration number - removedVIN NUMBER - .............605272The head gasket went yesterday afternoon, engine died and restarted a short while later and I managed to limp the 1 mile home with copious amounts of white smoke bellowing from exhaust and a smelly engine, got home and checked the oil filler and yes, I had the dreaded mayonnaise. What I need to know ideally is this a DIY job (I'm a reasonably confident mechanic but not in the best of health and not used to these engine very much), or any pointers or potential problems. I would replace the timing belt, water pump and ancillary drive belt too Mind you, would be nice if some kind person on the forum would give me a hand for payment AND a free holiday in Devon (SERIOUSLY!!) :) or live locally(ish) to Devon Thankyou ANDY

Didn't think of that, thanks Paul

Thanks for the reply Paul. It's definitely getting into 4th gear both in auto and manual modes. It's actually doing 2100 revs at 65mph. Just wonder if it could be say a tyre noise or similar it's got 4 new Firestones on,it doesn't sound or feel like bearings anywhere and of course being auto I can't coast or freewheel down a hill at 60 to see if it's engine related or something else. Towbar Fitting From A 02 Onto A 05 Plate
Andrewwood posted a topic in Questions about the Citroen C5
Hi all, Just a quickie, does anyone know if I can transfer and fit my towbar from my C5 02 plate diesel estate 2ltr to my new car a C5 05 plate 2.2ltr 5door hatchback, if so will the bolt holes all line up etc. thanks Andy -
Hi all I've just bought an 05 plate C5 2.2diesel exclusive auto with 57k on the clock. Two issues really, one is the Auto box (never had one before), the gearing seems pretty high to me as 4th gear don't come in until about 50mph is this correct? Also when cruising at above say 60, the car is noisy as though being over revved but according to the rpm counter it's only doing between 2300 - 2500rpm, wondering whether this has anything to do with automatic box OR maybe a 'sports' exhaust or removed DPF. The exhaust seems fine at tickover and no apparent noise when I 'blip' the throttle when stationary. I still have my 2ltr C5 02 plate (MOT failure) As well as this one and I must say it is quieter on the road than my new one. Any help or pointers would be appreciated Andy

Hi all, I have a 2002 2ltr 110bhp TD C5 estate that suffers from poor fuel economy ( 28-33mpg ) and reduced power ( only 60bhp at the wheels as confirmed by a rolling road ). I bought a Lexia 3 and connected it to the car and it threw up a few P faults - mainly temporary which I have cleared and a permanent one which is:- 'P0110 inlet temperature signal can value not plausible' Would this cause these problems and I'm not sure what the fault actually means I understand that this is the IAT Sensor which is located in the MAF sensor??, so I changed the MAF for a brand new one a Lucas one and I still have the same fault, I have checked the wiring for chafing etc and cleaned the terminal plug and going as far as removing all the black tape covering from the loom to where the cables go into the Ecu. I changed the turbo boost pressure sensor by accident for a brand new one to no avail, the turbo boosts correctly and I have fitted a new inter cooler and the battery is good. I'm at a bit of a loss on this so any help would be appreciated. Thanks very much Andy

Hi, this has probably been asked hundreds of times before so apologies if it has. I have a c5 estate 2ltr diesel 2002 sx model RHZ type engine. So, I am wondering am I right in saying that EOBD only came out after 2004, if so, I would need a lexia type of scanner for my car and I assume it will be the Lexia 3 supplied with Diagbox v.7.42 and PP2000 which I intend to buy on EBay item number 221439991639 Thanks for help Andy

Hi Is there anybody with a Lexia tester in the Devon area that would check out my 2002 2ltr C5 for faults (obviously payable), i'm sure i saw a list of places on here but I can't find it now thanks Andy

Hey guys, thanks very much, for the info it really helped. I did my egr valve and cooler today although is wasn't,t as bunged up as I thought it would be, it was really bad in the elbow at the main airflow pipe. All clean now and the valve works by sucking on it then snaps shut. Time will tell on the mpg, but performance seems better
-
Oh well, here goes. I will try to remove my egr valve today - by the look of it wish me luck. Will I need new clamps on the water hoses? Thanks
-
Hi, thanks for reply. I tried the MAF sensor by removing air tube between it and engine and what a difference in LOSS of power! I will try to remove egr, valve tomorrow when I suss out how to remove it, it seems to be bolted to the egr cooler? If so do I have to drain coolant first, if not what would happen if I disconnected the vacuum tube fom the valve, would the engine go into limp mode or Engine management light come on? To see if there is a vacuum being produced Sorry for questions Andy

Hi Coastline, it says RHZ in the Vin number on windscreen. I checked for binding brakes yesterday and they all are free as anything apart rom NSF which catches only very slightly indeed. I can't see any split / disconnected hoses anywhere. One point though, when I'm doing 70mph, the rev counter is only showing 2100rpm - is this right? Thanks and thanks to Parkesie Andy

Hi all I'm new to this site and have a C5 estate 2ltr TD 2002 which I am pleased with apart from a couple of things of which I have posted one them in another thread (poor performance & MPG). I live in South Devon and wonder if there is anyone here in Devon and / or with a Lexia available. I will post some pictures shortly Andy

Hi all, newbie here with a question. I have a C5 2ltr TD 2002 estate car with 125000 miles It,s a great car apart from poor performance I.e. Just feels flat and I have to change down gears on most hills, I think I can hear the turbo whistling, also MPG is returning no more than 30 which I think is very bad (I had a 2.2 C5 2002 a couple of years ago and there was a marked difference). Any help would be appreciated Thanks Andy
