Looking for some advice on a 57 plate xsara picasso 110bhp 16v desire. Took it into a local garage to get a service done and the clutch. End result was a phone call the next day to say they had damaged the ECU and car wouldn't start. They got their electrics guy to have a look who told me that the battery had been left off 24hrs and sometimes on xsaras when connecting back up can short the ECU out its just one of them things not sure how true this is? My uncle has been in the business 40plus years just a bit far to take my car to him but he says it's pretty hard to damage an ecu and they have more than likely connected the battery up the wrong way that has caused the damage? So the garage got a reconditioned ECU had it programmed with our cars data. About 2 hours after getting the car back the engine management light came on. Took it back and they did a check which said there was a problem with the coil pack. So they replaced it and said sometimes after a service this can happen. So nearly 6 months later the EML is still on saying the same thing it has been back and forth to the garage trying to sort it. Eventually they sent the car to a more specialist garage to get it fixed. They had a look and said it's either faulty coil pack, wire running to the ecu or faulty ecu. After 2 days they said coil pack and wire are fine so they sent the ecu off for testing and 10 days later it comes back no fault. So after some searching around they have now said our model of car needs a dealership coil pack not a 3rd party one in order to stop the ecu lighting up with an EML. I'm wondering how true this is?

Just bought a Xsara picasso at the weekend its a 57 plate 1.6i Desire 16v 110bhp. I've read through the manual and looked on parkers It says the car has electric mirrors I assumed it meant folding electric ones but I guess it's just the glass that moves? as I have looked around on the net and not seen any with electric folding. I've also got reverse sensors on this car and not seen it anywhere that states that it comes with it only the exclusive version. So just trying to figure out what kind of Desire I have lol... Another seperate question, I've noticed since getting the car that the last owners it was something I didn't check the rear cluster panel on the lights are loose as if they have had them off and tried to get them back on once side showing the clips have snapped and just seems to be resting in place. I was going to take the car to a local motosave and get them or at least the loose one replaced and was wondering what the cost would be ? Also the front covers for the headlights see to have a gap in them around the seal is this normal? thanks
