  1. Thank you for your reply. I tried resetting the mpg, that didn't work. I did the BSI re-set, hoping to clear window problems (it didn't), but the mpg and distance displays are now working correctly. It feels like the switch to me, I'm going to try changing it, but will try wd40 first. Aircon is booked in for tomorrow morning. Cam belt :- going to look into this further, 150,000 is the recommended interval, but if it hasn't been done already (there's around 30 receipts for work carried out over it's lifetime), I'll have it done next week.
  2. 1) The car, a 2006 plate has covered 127,000 miles, appears to have been serviced well, though not by a main dealer, should I replace the timing belt ? 2) There's a lot of "clutch shudder", the car was advertised as clutch squealing, I suspect it will be the dual mass flywheel, any tests I can carry out to confirm this ? 3) Aircon doesn't blow cold, a re-gas I suspect, but are there any known common problems with this model ? The annoying bits :- 4) The drivers window doesn't go up correctly, it sticks, then might go back down, it takes four or five presses to complete closing the window. 5) Passenger side window will go down with the drivers window control, but not back up, you have to use the passenger control to do this. The really annoying bit (to me) 6) The dash display shows MPH 0 and MPG 999, the MPG for the current journey does work, this rises and falls as expected, the other two are for overall average speed and consumption I think ?
  3. Well, I bought the car and am very pleased with it. The owner seemed a genuine guy, allowed me to test drive it before handing over my cash. It needed 2 front tyres (not mentioned in his ad) but at less than £900 for a 2006 plate 1.6 hdi I'm happy. The car does have a few problems :- I'll post questions regarding these id their own threads.
  4. Thank you for your reply. The car has done 125,000 so I suspect it must have been serviced on a regular basis, it is still in daily use. I can't see the owner allowing me to remove a pipe to check the turbo, but I'll try. I'll also ask for info on the dpf. I am going to go for a drive in it, so will try and remove the pipe then, will a screwdriver remove the pipe to the turbo ?
  5. I just won an auction on ebay for a 2006 model described above. I'm pretty sure that the guy selling it is a genuine person, but (this was on ebay) before bidding I made sure it was okay to test drive the car before handing over my cash, to ensure it was as he described. I just want to be sure it drives okay, doesn't burn oil, doesn't overheat etc and no dash lights are coming on. Which is how he described it. He did say there is a noise sometimes when you press the clutch, I'm prepared for it needing a new one, but he seems to think it could be a thrust bearing. Apart from the above, is there anything else I should be aware of with this model ?, I've had a 2 litre hdi in the past so know how the cars should feel and drive.
