I have replaced battery in fob but still does not work. The car battery is only about 1 1/2 old.

Hi was wondering if some one could help. The fob key would not work so I unlocked the car using key in the door, the alarm went off I put key in ignition to start the car but but the engine immobolised. Now car will not start. Have been told the fob is not working and fob & car needs to be reset, dealer has quoted £108 to hook up to computer to assess the problem. We do not have a second key and ever time we open car alarm goes off. Message board has also said ecc mode. Do we have to go through dealer or is there another way around it?
