  1. 6 months ago 5k miles. There has been some developments since my last post. Took the car for a run again - the rattling got worse, and then there was some squealing; a bit like metal to metal which when a depressed the clutch - the squealing slowly reduced to nothing, managed to limp the car home - starting to think this is probably the Dual mass flywheel. what do you think.
  2. No I wouldn't say there was much difference. But on start up first thing this morning the engine was struggling to maintain steady revs and I could then feel vibration through the clutch pedal. Still a bit concerned about all this air in the fuel!
  3. I have just noticed lots of air bubbles in the clear section of pipe going from the fuel filter housing - this doesn't seem normal to me, would this cause the loud engine knock I'm experiencing?
  4. Did you feel any vibration, or just the knocking sound?
  5. Hi, the cars done 100k cambelt changed at 70k
  6. Hi, my C5 X7 2.0 hdi (2010) has just started knocking when I raise the revs - my wife was driving it today, and said it was really rattly, and then when she stopped to open a gate it cut out and she struggled to restart it. About 5 minutes later she tried again and it started. AA chap came out to it, started the car and revved it slightly. It sounds like a bottom end knock, he first of all thought there is probably a problem with the crank/bearings. After he towed me home, he must of been thinking on the way back and said it would be worth checking the timing belt, in case it has jumped a tooth. Could a timing issue like this cause the engine to sound like a bottom end knock?
  7. I'm loosing power steering oil - I have read some posts on here, and suspected the oil was leaking from the seal where the steering column enters the rack; sure enough the shaft was extremely corroded as mentioned in the posts, but there where no signs of oil leakage. I eventually traced the leak to a hole in the steel pipe where the mounting bracket connects to the power steering fluid - cooling radiator, attached in front of the coolant rad at the front of the car. This maybe useful if anyone has a similar problem. I took the opportunity to clean up the corroded steering column and hopefully prevent this from damaging the seal. This can be accessed through the large rubber bung in the drivers foot well - First remove the steering column plastic cover (top left hand side of the foot well - this will just lift away after releasing the two plastic hand turn-screws just higher on the cover. The steering column retaining bolt can now be undone, remove this and slide the column up and out of the way, then remove the two rubber bung retaining nuts and lift the bung up and out. The short spigot coming from the rack can now be cleaned up (a bit fiddly, but much easier than trying to work from underneath - if you haven't got an airline clean away any bits of rust which have dropped into the groove around the seal by using some small bore flexible tube and blowing down it whilst directing the end at the seal) With this all cleaned up, I greased the spigot to hopefully prevent any future corrosion. Hopefully this may save someone the cost of a new rack.
  8. Hi, anybody used the company Jcparts.eu I came across them today when looking for parts for my C5 - they seem to be able to source and ship maker parts cheaper than dealer. Anyone had any experience with them. good or bad?
  9. Yes exactly the same by the looks of it - a close look at the containers shows LDS: "for citroen hydroactive suspension" and DA for power steering. The dealer said they spec a different oil for models with hydroactive suspension than they do for models with just power steering resorvoir, but he couldn't tell me the names of the oils!! I've gone and ordered some DA from amazon for £10.49 v £37 from the stealers!! but as there specs seem to be identical i don't suppose it matters which one.
  10. Thanks for the replies - Ok so it looks like i need to buy total DA - The LDS and the DA look identical in colour in the bottles pictured on sights that sell it, so it would be difficult to tell just by colour what was in the system! I do have a sneaky feeling that i probably have a leak somewhere on the rack - however I will buy some oil first so I can see how much has gone missing. just out of intereset what does RTA stand for. thanks
  11. Hi, I am new to this forum and hope someone can help me with this - I have a C5 x7 2010 and my car does not possess Hydroactive suspension. I need to replenish the power steering resorvoir, but when I consult the handbook; it says this is a Dealer task and it doesn't give any details of the oil type to be used. I believe with a combined power steering and suspension systems, the oil is shared and should only be filled with LDS type oil. With my car the resorvoir only supplies the power steering system and in this case will it still contain LDS? It doesn't say anything on the cap. Thanks.
