Further to my previous posts, our 06 c4 suffered a major ecu failure and I've been advised by the technician that it was likely caused by a wiring defects. He went on to say that this was a very common problem with c4s of that age. We have been put on to a newer one local to us, that was registered in 2011. My question is this; how similar are the two cars? Will the newer one also have similar problems like pneumatic rear suspension?

Hi Paul, I get paid in a couple of days so I think I will be getting a volt meter and maxiscan so that I can give you a better idea of what is happening. I have noticed that the faults seem to follow the same pattern each time: Depollution system faulty Automatic handbrake faulty ESP/ASR system faulty The Depollution system faulty message is always there, and comes on as soon as I start the engine, while the others come on a few minutes later and usually when I have taken the car for a few short runs. I'm pretty sure the passenger side suspension airbag has a slow puncture which is making the compressor work to keep the suspension up initially upon stopping the car. Is there a kind of failsafe that stops non essential components drawing power when charge is low? I'm wondering if it's all connected and a good overnight charge and replacement of the faulty airbag might see the other problems disappearing all together. -

Hi Paul, the battery may not have been fully charged to begin with as a 20 mile run made the faults less inclined to show. They do still come up when the car has been sat for a while, the most common being 'depollution system faulty' 'automatic handbrake faulty' and occasionally the flat suspension warning. This evening I also noticed that the car is going straight into economy mode when the ignition is switched on so perhaps the battery needs taking off and charging overnight. You mentioned something about the battery coming off too quickly and the bsi having issues. I'm unfamiliar with this, could you explain please? -
As per my previous posts I gave just been wading through an ongoing problem with the pneumatic suspension which resulted in me taking the car to a local independent Citroën specialist. In case those of you reading haven't read my previous posts, I will recap. For any of you already familiar with my earlier posts, go straight to the third paragraph where I explain my latest issue. The independent Citroën specialist used a diagnostic computer to ascertain that the compressor was faulty but also found that the system was showing faults with the fuse box, ecu and battery. He went on to explain that, while the compressor was definitely in need of attention, the other fault codes could be appearing due to the defective battery and subsequent voltage drop. I went back to the garage where I bought the car and, under the sales warranty, had the compressor replaced. They got that sorted, replaced the battery and also provided me with four new tyres. Earlier today I collected the car, freshly repaired, only to find it displaying all sorts of faults. Automatic handbrake fault, esp fault, depollution sensor fault, suspension fault. I can't be sure whether that's all of them but my question is this... If these faults are logged from before the battery was replaced, would they show up afterwards even if there was nothing wrong? Having driven the car approximately 20 miles today without any physical signs of faults, is it possible that these are residual faults and, if cleared, unlikely to keep appearing or shall I start panicking about another hefty repair bill?

Thanks Paul, the battery came with the car a year ago when I bought it. Not sure how old it was so probably due a replacement. The people who are sorting out the compressor are also doing me a new battery and four new tyres too so hopefully that will sort it out. I do a combination of short and long trips with the one to and from work being very short but on the day in question I had driven for at least five miles and the diagnostic computer the technician used had flagged up a fault with the battery

I've been having problems with the pneumatic suspension on my grand c4 Picasso and took it to my local specialist for diagnosis. At the start of the test the test the car went into eco mode within seconds of the ignition being switched on and the technician informed me that I had a faulty battery. The machine flagged up faults with the ecu and fuse box minutes later as well as the problem with the suspension. He then went on to tell me how much a compressor would be (as that was the cause of the suspension problem) and said that the battery being replaced may stop the other faults showing as they might have been caused by low voltage. He went on to say that, should the ecu definitely be at fault, the car would need to be taken to Citroën as ecus aren't just a quick one for one swap and Neen things like chassis numbers programmed into them. Something Citroën make very difficult for anyone other than them to do. Has anyone else experienced anything like this and had similar results from replacing the battery?

Thanks for the link to the email listing by the way Paul. On a completely unrelated note, the cigar lighter sockets on my c4 are damaged. Would you happen to know the part number for those so I can look into replacing them? Thanks again for all your help

Ok so there have been fresh developments yesterday/today. When the system is 'working' the compressor has sounded, on a few occasions, like its struggling to get enough power so I rev the engine which seems to work briefly but then the revs drop even though I haven't raised my foot. Then today each time I've been able to get the system working it has kept pumping until telling me there's a fault without me even moving the car. :-/

Hi Paul, no they weren't contacted. I spoke to the garage where I bought the car and they said they didn't think Citroën would do anything about it as they had already done some work to it. That said I may contact them after the diagnostic on Tuesday, particularly if it's going to be very expensive to repair it through the place where the diagnosis is being done.

Not sure if this conversation will be bumped back to the top by adding new content but here goes... Almost a full year on and the suspension is displaying similar symptoms to those seen last year. Under 'normal working conditions' (?) , as I unlock the car, the air compressor can be heard briefly. I get in, start up and the compressor charges the system until the suspension is at the correct height and pressure. I drive A a to B, no problem. Lately, however, there have been many occasions where the compressor has remained silent upon unlocking and again after starting the engine. When moving away I am then presented with the orange 'service' light, a 'suspension faulty' sign and another telling me to drive at 5mph. Sometimes all I need to do is stop the car, turn everything off and wait a few seconds. The compressor starts, I start the engine and the system inflates. More recently, however, the car has taken to displaying the three aforementioned warnings whilst in transit and turning the engine off works much less often. Last year the place that sold me the car replaced the driver side airbag and the compressor. This time around it's looking like the passenger side bag has gone because the car sits lower on that side when the system needs pressurising. My concern is that there may be more than one problem so I'm hoping one of you might have had similar experiences and be able to let me know what else might need replacing so I don't get any expensive surprises as I'm taking it to a Citroën specialist on Tuesday. Thanks

I'm about to contact the people who sold me the car to ask them to look into it under the terms of the warranty. I noticed a hiring sound coming from the back of the car on the drivers side so I suspect a puncture. A replacement airbag on eBay is around £180 which isn't too bad and having watched a video tutorial I believe it would only take a couple of hours to replace on my drive. Thanks for the info, very helpful. Will update as things develop

I just got a c4 grand Picasso exclusive and I'm in love with it but there's a fault with the pneumatic rear suspension. If it has been standing for a few hours between journeys I get the 'service' warning light illuminated in orange and upon pulling away a warning comes up on the screen in the middle of the dashboard saying suspension faulty followed by a second message showing two wheels and an arrow with 5mph. I have taken this to mean "Don't drive faster than 5mph"and have found the ride is very bouncy. If I pull over and restart the engine it seems to be Ok most times but not all. Also I have noticed that the back end seems lower on the driver side. Does anyone know what is likely to be the cause and how I can get it sorted? Many thanks

Hi forum police and thanks for the assist. Been driving the c4 grand Picasso for almost a month now and love it save for one problem with it. There's an issue with the pneumatic rear suspension which I will post about in a moment for advice.

Hi guys I have just bought a Citroën c4 grand Picasso exclusive and it has the panoramic roof window with electronically controlled cover. It doesn't, however, shut. I've checked the fuse labelled f40 in the handbook and that's not blown so I was wondering if anybody has any idea what could be wrong with it.

Not sure if this post should be here but here goes... Hi everyone, I'm new here and don't own a Citroën yet but tomorrow my wife and I are going to buy a grand c4 Picasso on an 07 plate. It's an 'exclusive' do any of you guys know which extras/features set it apart from other grand c4s or have any suggestions for what to look out for both good and bad?
