  1. That is quite possible Paul but I will have to take all the rear hatch cladding off again to check that and am now awaiting better weather. Also I have some other things to check first as I was relying on the previous owners information in relation that it is the motor that is non-funktual. But having searched the net I have found it could be something else that is stopping it working. So when the weather gets better here I will be checking for other faults by doing 'continuity checks' in the wiring and making a direct connection from the battery to motor to check that as well. Oh and I have found that my particular model has three different coloured plugs, black three pin white three or four pin but different shape to mine and then there is a brown one with four pins.
  2. Ok I have sorted one problem with w the rivets, it is possible with a bit of fiddling to remove the three bolts from behind the motor. My other problem with getting the right motor after receiving the latest one (it is the wrong plug on it) so there is three different plugs, mine is a flat three point plug and I have received a brown square four point and also now a flat white four point plug so what the H*** were citroen thinking about. ??? Incidentally they are all listed for my car. At this rate I don't think any modern citroens will reach the 'Classic' stage. But the hunt goes on.
  3. Well after doing a lot of research on the subject of rear wiper motors I have found that there are actually two different numbers but unfortunately they fitted them with different plugs on them, which is not listed. I now have I think the correct one coming to me in the post, should arrive on Wednesday so we will see. The two different numbers that are listed are for the motor with an interface for the fitting of a 'delay relay' which mine has and the other for without the interface. Also the two different plugs that they fitted one is black with three pins and the other brown with I think four or five pins but they are not mentioned in their parts lists. Also I have come across another problem that might arise when doing ones own work is that the three 'pop rivets' for fitting to the car are not of a normal size, with my 'pop rivet' pliers there are three different 'collets' but none are big enough for the rivets supplied so it looks as if I will have to drill one of the 'collets' out to suit. But then I am having other thoughts on solving that problem and will keep you all informed in due course.
  4. Yes I had thought of both those remedies but I would prefer to keep original if possible that is why I would prefer to just get the connector but being a Citroen it doesn't seem to be a possibility. I suppose I was expecting too much with me having a Merc 190E and having done loads of repairs, up-grading and modifications to it I thought it might be possible with Citroen but one cannot even get a simple connector from Citroen. Thanks again for your suggestions, my search goes on B) Barrie.
  5. No paul mine is the hatch back and yes John that is the numbers I have but citroen tell me they are no more available, I now have both those numbers as spare in my boot and both have the wrong connecting plug on them for my car. If I could only find a matching plug connector I could probably fix one up to match mine. I will probably have to hunt round a breakers yard with a pocket full of tools as I would have to take the cladding off the doner car to get at it to cut the last six inches of cable complete with plug to perform the surgery. Thanks a lot anyway for confirming my findings. Barrie.
  6. Hi, As I have posted here I bought a cheap xsara 1.4i 2000 model a couple of months ago. The rear wiper wasn't working and the bloke that sold it to me included a new wiper motor but it turns out it is the wrong one. although listed for the car, I have since bought another rear wiper motor but it has the wrong plug on it for my car, and Citroen cannot help me. my original plug has 3 contacts in it and the later models although they are listed by Citroen for my car has four and they are of a different colour. ( namely brown) Has anybody the older type plug with only 3 contacts in it or a part number for it. Thankyou in advance. Barrie.
  7. Ok forget the above 'Post' I have this morning managed to get the smaller of the two claddings off, what a struggle. for future information some force has to be used to pull the centre out so sliding the clips out at both ends.
  8. Ok, when I bought my szara 1.4i a few weeks ago the rear wiper wasn't working but the seller left a new one in the boot for me. I have read up pretty extensively on it but have come upon a problem getting the tailgate cladding off. the biggest piece I have managed but the smaller piece doesn't seem to want to budge, and I don't want to break anything unneccesarily by forcing the issue, has anyone done this job ?? Thankyou in advance for any tips. Barrie.
  9. Hi Paul, What I was wondering is,- is this code reader suitable for my xsara 1.4 2000 model, and where is the socket for it on my car ? Thanks a lot for your help in advance. Barrie.
  10. Thanks a lot Paul, but I have tried to get on that site a couple of times now and it won't let me in, is there a secret to getting in ? And also is there any other parts or pieces apart from the seats that can be used to 'up-grade my 1999 zsara 1.4. ? I had a merc 190E 89 model, and I did quite a lot of modifications to that to bring it more up to date, lecky windows, remote locking etc. and was wondering if it would be possible to do the same with my new/old car, hoping for help from members that have carried out any modifications on theirs . Thanking you for any advice on the subject. Barrie.
  11. I have found that the drivers seat would suit me better if I could adjust the height, or at least make it higher, or even fitting one from a later model, mine is a 1999, 1.4 and evidently the basic model,. Also is there any other parts that I could up-grade, eg. lecky operated front side windows, ?
  12. I have only had my Zsara a couple of days but how can I tell whether or not it has an alarm system. ?? I only have one key with it and went to have another made and the bloke told me he couldn't as he would have to have the car there too as he reckons the key has got to be matched with the car as it has a transponder in it. is this true or is he making excuses ? My car is a 1.4, 99 model and to me they key looks just like a normal on to me with molded plastic on with no screws in it.
  13. Ok, I am new here and also to Citroens and have been reading postings and have a couple of questions. 1) What is a Lexia.? I am guessing it is a 'code reader. 2)Where could I get one.? 3)And what is the approximate cost.? 4) Would it be any good for my Xsara 2000 model 1.4i petrol. ? Thankyou in advance for any info.
  14. Thanks a Lot ,Mod,. I have ordered and payed for it, you were very helpful. Have a nice w/end. Barrie
  15. Being a pensioner, I have just downsized my car, and now have what I think is a lot cheaper to run. I am quite pleased with it a 2000 1.4i Xsara with just over 62 thou. on the clock with three previous owners. :) I am busy now looking for a Workshop Manual for it, but haven't had any joy yet, but then I am not the best at searching. :( Barrie.
