  1. Update....151k miles and had the very hard decision to either scrap or get the clutch and DMF done as the clutch had been slipping in recent weeks. After thinking long and hard, considering she is very reliable and only need to see her through the next 12mnts or so, I decided on the repair. £280 for the clutch, DMF and gearbox oil and found a local garage (who quoted 4.5hrs work)at only £40 per hour plus VAT. So, just over £550 for the whole repair including driveshaft seals and consumables from the garage (Citroen wanted £30 for the driveshaft seals, garage was £15). Wow, a different car!! That clutch must have been slightly slipping for a good while as it's a different car now!!
  2. I've just past 150k in my 55 plate remapped 1.6 hdi vtr+. As above, just keep fully serviced and up to date.....do not go over the 12k sevice interval! Mines driven everyday and fairly hard - it doesn't moan!
  3. Update: she's still going strong, albeit a new fuel filter which my mate fitted. Engine management light now off as well! Just past 150k miles and still smooth whilst pulling like a train. Need new steering arms which are knocking slightly.
  4. The one advisory was slight corrosion on a rear spring. The old girl still going strong covering 800 miles return last week to the lake district and back. She didn't miss a beat!
  5. Quick update....had MOT 2 weeks ago, 143500 miles and the old girl flew through with just one minor advisory! Dead chuffed. Still going strong and returning 58-60 mpg ish according to computer.
  6. Thanks. Know about the stalk button, keeping it running to show that the car is frugal and can average a very good mpg under all conditions over a good length of time. Reckon it reads about 3 mpg too much from experience of full ups from same garage and pump, 58mpg not bad considering its age, mileage and driver 😀.
  7. Quick update....still going strong nearing 142k miles, computer still showing 61.3mpg. New magic tree hanging from the indicator stalk and a fresh bumper scratch after the missus took it out last week. Depollution light still on but not affecting the car whatsoever (and hasn't since being in permenatly for at least 6k miles now) ...checked another popular Citroen forum and apparently my chassis/engine number doesn't have dpf?! Sept 2005 registered. MOT due end of August so going to a mates for a pre MOT check in the next couple of weeks. Think she'll be fine, can only see at the mo having to fix a small knocking over light bumps at low speed from front nearside area? Ideas what this is? All in all, still very comfy, cheap and quick! Again, I can't recommend a remap enough!!
  8. Thought I'd also share that I did 150 miles today all on A and B roads and not holding back (obviously within speed limts). Computer says 61.3mpg. From experience of the empty to full deisal fill up at the same garage and pump, the computer generally reads approx 2mpg too much.
  9. I also get the depollution error sometimes - give it a good rant then park up and leave until engine is cold. When you start it again, get presto all is good again. My advice is to ignore it. Quick update - crankshaft pulley went in spectacular fashion. New non-citroen pulley and alternator belt cost £70 Inc vat, mate fixed for a tenner. Just about to pass 140k. She keeps on going and going.....
  10. Quick update at 139k miles...running superbly and not missing a beat. Seems to get better and better! Averaged 58mpg according to the computer over 2k miles. Mixture of all conditions and roads.

  12. Hi, just thought I'd share my experience of my 2005 55 reg c4 vtr+. I've had a few Citroens over the years and always loved the qwerky dare to be different styling. Some mates think it's old man ish but at least I don't drive a boring Ford/vw/etc. I bought my 1.6hdi 110 18mnts ago for a smidge over £2k with a full history and 2 owners with the first holding on to it for 7yrs. Full leather with heated seats plus the drivers is electric. Auto lights wipers plus rear view mirror auto dimming. Its easily by far the most comfortable car I've owned. At 115k miles I had it remaped with an itg performance air filter fitted by Angel near Banbury which transformed it immediately in to a quick but frugal car. It can pull hard but smoothly and without fuss through all gears. My previous car was a BMW 330d 184bhp 52reg and I'll honestly say the c4 is now not that much off the pace of the 330d and double the mpg! It's especially at home on A and B roads and have suprised many an arrogant bullying BM(!) and Audi driver! As with many 10yr old cars though, there are a few minor problems such as the drivers heated seat stopped working recently (why the drivers and not the passengers?!) and the electric switch panel on the drivers door can be a little temperamental albeit never failed. The climate control is also stuck on hot on the passengers side but with it about to turn 138k miles, I don't think that's too bad!! Touch wood, shes been a reliable old girl with only a vacuum pack failing about 4 months after I bought it. Other than that I've only serviced and replaced wear and tear items. So I suppose my conclusion is....what an amazing cheap car and if you haven't already, get it remapped and I promise you you will not regret it :)
