  1. I suspected something along those lines. I've had it to my mates garage and he can't tell what's missing. There's still the wire that's been cut but the car runs OK and there's no eml showing. The plastic that they ripped off is £230, obviously stealer only, there aren't any on ebay.
  2. Last Sunday morning some toerag decided they he had more right to parts of my car than I do. The plastic undertray on the nearside, jus inboard of the sills below the doors has been ripped off and the exhaust heat shield has been unbolted. They're an easy fix. However there are a couple of wires, one green and one purple(ish) that have been cut towards the rear of the car. Since there's no sign of the other end of the cut wires I can only assume that the dead man walking has managed to escape with whatever he was after. I only discovered this on Sunday evening and the car is now parked at work until I get back on Friday. Does anyone have any idea what it may be that I have been deprived of? I've got a few photos but I don't know how to post them.
  3. I don't think so. The car was serviced not long before I bought it and I've only done about 4000 miles since
  4. I've had my 2008 C5 X7 auto for about 9 months now and am reasonably happy with it I don't drive it hard and an getting high 30s to the gallon in mixed town and my commute to work. A few times (actually 3) I've tried to drive it a bit hard, like I'd stolen it and every time it chimes at me, the engine management light comes on and stays on, I get an engine management warning and lose the cruise control. The last time it happened I attempted to accelerate from 70mph on the motorway, the gearbox changed down two gears, which I wasn't expecting, the warnings came up the transmission changed back up, all almost instantly and the car still performed what seemed like normally. If I switch it off and leave it for 45 minutes it fixes itself. I know it probably needs diagnostics but I am hoping someone nway have encountered this before, so that I have an idea where a garage should be looking Thanks in advance for your help.
  5. Thanks for that. I was just about to post that I'd got it sussed. I re-read the handbook. I've no idea why I thought the left stalk button was the trip reset, it's actually for the satnav voice activation, which I don't have. DUH!
  6. I've had the car on the brake rollers and they're all working OK. I've done an mot history search and it's had three advisories for the discs, but unless they are severely worn or cracked it can't be failed.
  7. Apparently the brakes are working OK. But, probably, because they're the rear ones the pads are obviously not going to clean the discs properly. The car may have just been stood too long before I bought it. New pads and discs about £65 from my local motor factor. I'll see if the dealer will pay under warranty. My tame techie has also run diagnostics and the ecu is showing an unspecified fault with the egr valve although the engine appears to run OK and there's no Em fault showing on the dash. Just need to sort the trip computer now and I'll be a happier bunny.
  8. Mines a 2008 X7 So does that make it a mk2?
  9. The company mechanic ia going to have a look at the brakes over the next day or two (if time allows), I'll let you know the result. I forgot to mention, the car was serviced about 4000 miles ago and all the pads are new. But does anyone know if the indicator switch can be disassembled, similar to how the wiper switch can be in the earlier versions please?
  10. Thanks for the swift reply, but I've just popped out and tried again The switch on the wiper stalk controls the radio info panel in the centre of the dash.
  11. Hello everyone. I had my 2008 2.0 diesel exclusive auto for less than a week. I collected it Thursday and drove it to work where it was parked until yesterday evening. I've driven it home yesterday and back to work this morning, a round trip of about 45 miles. I've noticed that the rear brake discs are rusted as if the pads weren't applying. I'm not a heavy broker. And pressing the button on the indicator switch won't reset the trip computer. It's as if the display was frozen. Both trip computer show exactly the same fuel consumption etc and nothing changes throughout the journey. Help me please. Tia Keith
  12. Automatic gearbox. I wouldn't even consider buying a manual these days.
  13. My first car was a mk1 Cortina which I paid £75 for before is passed my test. I had a Honda N350 and a N600 for a while, trying to make 1 out of 2. A Datsun 260C which had a clockwork timer on the heated rear window switch so you couldn't leave it on and fibre optic rear light monitors on the rear parcel shelf. A ford granada V4, a couple of Marinas, both of them had the lever arms replaced with telescopic dampers and had the most comfortable rear seats of any car I've ever been in. Then there was a lime green Avenger bought at auction with a leaking water pump which took no time to replace. It also had electronic ignition, there was an interruptor plate inside the distributor which I managed to damage. But a new one was available from a local motor factors for coppers and took ten minutes to fit. I bought a two year old Nova from my mother, one of the early ones, two door, Y reg, any colour you like, so long as it was red or brown and the boot was massive. The camshaft started to wear at about 75000 miles(I was doing high mileages in those days) so I got an engine from a write off for £150, 8000 miles and almost as cheap as doing the camshaft. Almost ran it into the ground then bought an F reg Nissan Sunny at 3 yo because my wife talked me into it as she'd just passed her test in one. I kept it for about six months and part ex'd it for a Ford Orion encore which was half incched from my drive. I bought a three year old Cavalier with the insurance money and had it for about six years. Wth only 68000 miles on the clock I gave it to my eldest son to part exchange against a car he wanted. I was without a car of my own for a short while until I put my wife's Escort estate in as part ex for a Mazda 6 for me. I swapped the Mazda for a Nissan Xtrail to tow the caravan we bought. Then I let my wife talk me into buying a people carrier, so I bought a Kia Sedona, the first automatic I've had since the Datsun. The Kia went two days ago and I've now got an eight year old C5.Another automatic. The Datsun was auto because that's what was fitted when I bought it used. The Kia was bought because it was auto and the Citroen was bought because I was looking for a car with a Teflon gearbox.
  14. Thanks, the Mazda was petrol. I was trying to avoid diesel because of dpf problems. But I couldn't resist the C5, the gearbox is a Teflon, as was the Mazda and the Seat. I don't seem to like manuals anymore, my wife has a 63 plate Ibiza with three pedals and that's one too many in my opinion. It's got the hydraulic suspension so it must be the exclusive. The a/c seems to be working ATM but I know a guy who can check it for me. The battery save thingy seems to come on after a couple of minutes, is this normal?
  15. I went out Thursday morning to look at a Mazda 6 that was advertised in Auto trader. On the way I stopped off to check out a Seat Leon that I'd shortlisted. I never made it that far. I got my eye on a C5, paid a deposit and collected it a few hours later on my way to work where it'll be standing until Monday Evening. To claim it was an impulse buy wouldn't do justice to impulse buys. It's the first time I've bought a car as quickly. I'm just wondering what I've let myself in for. 58 reg, 2 litre HDI, auto with 72000 miles and FSH. I'm not even sure what the trim is, possibly Exclusive.
