  1. Hi, this may sound silly but have you tried disconnecting and re connecting the battery ?, my c5 had the same problem and the helpful boss at my local garage (not a citroen one !) did this and all the faults cleared and has never gone wrong again (this was 2 years ago), about a year ago i ran out of diesel and the "Enviromental pollution system fault " came up, after re filling with diesel, disconnecting and reconnecting the battery the car started up first time and no faults displayed, only a thought but the c5 does do strange things !!!.
  2. Hello long story so bear with me, has anyone tried to change the headlamp bulbs on a c5 ?, nigh on impossible unless you have a hand the size of a babys, anyway today i changed the passenger side headlamp, difficult but do-able if you take the battery out, anyway after i did this i went out in the c5, then i had the low fuel beep and warning messgae come up, usually this comes on with about 49 miles left and i have got it down to 20 miles left before i have refilled, but after tens mins of driving a message flashed up "anti air pollution fault" then the car pomptly died on me, couldnt get it started so got the aa out, in the end after half an hour of diagnostic testing he put some diesel in and the bally thing started !!!, he reckons the computer is wrongly telling me i have 49 miles worth of fuel left when i have none !, has anyone else had this problem or , could the disconnecting of the battery throw a massive spanner in the computer system ? and what is an "anti air pollution fault ??"
  3. Hello , after months of awful squealing brakes and the thought of the cost to fix them i did something i used to do years ago on my old mini, i took the brakes apart and gently filed a bit off the pads, i did this on all four wheels and the squealing has gone !, but i would only do this if you have plenty of life left in the pads like i have. Its been a month now and no squealing or people on the street looking at me when i brake !.
  4. sorry, you said alternator pulley, this is the pulley that is physically attached to the alternator ?, all i can say is that i had the crankshaft pulley and another tensioner pulley changed and the noise and banging only went after i had an alternator fitted !, oh the joys of citroen c5's !!!
  5. ok, take a look here http://www.onlineautomotive.co.uk/search_results.php? dont know if they ship to you, i found one on ebay that was £99 plue £9.99 carraige
  6. you can look here http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Crank-Shaft-Pulley-F...p3286.m14.l1318 to be honest i had a pulley fitted and the noise was the same !, onlly went away when i had an alternator fitted
  7. Just an update, the alternator cost me £125 plus vat, the garage in cannock fitted it for nothing as i was having so much trouble, touch wood the rattling and tractor noises have gone , will let you know if the come back (please no!!), the mechanic showed me this alternator which doesnt spin freely like the old one did, it has some mechanism that stops it rotating after you try to spin it round, this doesnt make sense to me but the noise has now totally gone, now for those squeaking brakes !!!!.
  8. Well i took my c5 to the diesel "specialist", he changed the large bottom pulley (dont know the proper name for it), the noise went away for about 20 miles but now an irritating knocking noise has appeared, sounding like knocking tappets, the garage that did the work phoned his mate at a citroen dealers who said it was the alternator (as mentioned in previous post) , apparently they have been modified now with a type of clutch to compensate for the pulleys and belts (sorry about the non technical explanation), this alternator will cost me £125 plus vat and he reckons he might also have to change the bottom pulley as well as it may be the wrong one !!!, this is really doing my head in !, does anyone know of a decent mechanic in the B'ham area ? i am fed up of throwing money at this car !!!.
  9. Well the noise is still there, it hasnt got any worse but i am taking it to a diesel engine specialist in Cannock i have been told about, the other opinion i got was from a local garage, they wouldnt touch the engine !, but he did say he has heard the same noise coming from c5's he has mot'd recently, oh joy !
  10. i too have the same problem, had the pulleys and water pump changed last december, last week the car developed knocking noise in the area of the belts, the garage that fixed it said it was something to do with the wrong idle speed but i dont really believe that, he also said that nothing was wrong and the noise was "normal" well i dont call a vibrating noise that wasnt there before normal, i am going for a second opinion tommorrow so will keep you posted !
  11. ok, i will give them a go, only 2 miles from me apparently !, many thanks
  12. I read these posts with interest, having loads of trouble with my locking nuts, the key is is so worn i can't get the nuts off. 3 big tyre sellers i went too won't touch them, citroen want £40 for a new key, arrghh, brought a locking wheel nut remover kit for £9.99 off ebay, new problem now, does anyone know where i can get 4 standard nuts for the c5 from ?, citroen want loadsamoney, halfords only sell locking wheel nuts, so do all the other car spares shops near me (birmingham), dont want to put locking wheel nuts back on. I am going slightly mad.
