Had the same on my L/H rear door. Had to resort to destroying the cover on the lock with a good set of pliers to get at the mechanism within the door. The root cause of the problem was a plastic pin falling out of the child lock mechanism which I replaced with a good old fashioned nut and bolt. Door lock has been working perfectly since.
