Guest Dieselnumpty Posted February 20, 2011 Posted February 20, 2011 Advice needed please! I reversed my '92 1.9 diesel Relay campervan off the drive no problem, tried to select 1st gear but nothing - the lever is rock solid. I cannot select any gear, even reverse which worked fine when I drove off the drive. It's not the clutch as I can't select gears with the engine switched off, and it's not the sector rods as I've checked those, also if I slacken off the big domed nut through which the selector enters the gearbox then the rods all operate fine. I'm pretty sure it's something inside the 'box but before I strip it is there anything I can try rather than having to remove the gearbox? If I do need to remove the box then does anyone have any idea which part/parts I should look at first? Quote
Guest Dieselnumpty Posted April 11, 2011 Posted April 11, 2011 Well I took it to a gearbox specialist in Wolverhampton who in minutes found the problem - a worn selector ring allowing the locator bearing to pop out and prevent it from selecting any gears. He also found evidence of wear elsewhere so I decided not to bother having it repaird and have now fitted a used replacement. Quote
